Halo's Historical Aspect

Firstly, I’d just like to say my complete Halo history -

One day my older bro came home with a game called Halo 2. Amazing game. Fell in love. One of the worst days of my gaming career was when Xbox Live would no longer support it. 1 Flag CTF for Big Team Battle was my favorite playlist ever. However, even after Xbox Live stopped supporting it, I figured out a way to play it with people via system link, as late as 2010-11. The population there was pretty astounding.

Time moved on, I played barely any of Halo 3 or 4 or Reach, some multiplayer games here and there at my friends house, but I never had the game.

This year for Christmas, my older brother got me Halo 5. Awesome. I remember during Winter Break debating whether or not to sell H5 to get MCC. (greatest decision to keep H5). Played the hell out of it, you can probably catch me on warzone if the New York Mets aren’t playing.

Now, to get to my point.
I could play the Halo 2 campaign like the back of my hand.

Halo 5’s campaign, was solid I guess. I really can’t judge it because I’ve only played 2 campaigns.
However, due to the jump, I had no idea about the story or anything. I knew Cortana was an AI, Master Chief was a spartan, yada yada. But, I had no knowledge of Halo’s history. I barely knew even what the heck a Halo was.

So, I did some research, and boy is Halo’s history and plot super interesting. The Precursors, Forerunners, Humans, Flood, different species and the Wars are actually a great read.

So, my question is, through out Halo’s 1 - 5 campaign’s, are any of these things even explained? Or is through all the side -Yoink-?
If Halo 1-5 explained Halo’s rich history through the campaigns, no side games, or no books or whatever, I feel Halo would have a much bigger fan base and customers. How many people even know about the history of it? If all were educated through the campaign modes in a clear concise manner, I feel it would boost the population. Because most people have bought and played Halo 1-5 campaigns, there are so many gaps of important knowledge skipped in side game and like wtf is going on? If they kept all the information in just Halo 1-5, I feel the population would boost and they would get more revenue. Your telling me I have to buy books, more side games, and the 1-5 set to understand whats going on? If it were JUST Halo 1,2,3,4,5, Reach, (<not in order I know) a lot more people would enjoy the series, in my opinion.

I recommend a channel called “Halo Canon” to get you caught up. Halopedia- not Halo Wikia- is also a good place to start. Recommend you save up for MCC, Halo Wars, and Reach yourself though (both are supported by Xbox One now)

I agree

no mainly just the main human covenant war but the last for that is reach after that we get all this post war nonsense

The Human Covenant War is awesome. The Great Schism, Glassing of Planets, etc

The mainline games don’t get too into the history. Halo 1-3 occur within a few month period all focusing on the master chief, although the majority of that isn’t shown, because it’s just space travel. (It takes them a month or so to get to the Ark according to Hunters in the dark) Halo 4 is the only one that mentions the Human Forerunner War. You can’t fit it all in the games, there is just too much. That’s why there are so many books, comics and side games. It is really easy to follow along until you get to Halo 5, where it introduces blue team and Osiris, which were mentioned in the outside media. Other than that it is a pretty coherent story. I strongly recommend reading th books
