Ok, first a disclaimer. I’m not sure if this image is legit, art, or if it was Halo 5 at all; but that’s not the point. https://postimg.org/image/6qsttkhcj/
In this image it appears to be Halo 5: Guardians, it also looks like a HUGE graphical improvement than what we have. What happened to that? Now I’m not sure if it’s the hardware of the Xbox One that held the game back or what, but Halo needs graphics like that.
Halo is Xbox’s flagship exclusive title, yet one year later and it’s visuals are already looking dated. Look at the upcoming games like BF1. I think Halo’s engine needs to be redone from the ground up using the latest technology, and with the Scorpio on it’s way I don’t see why it’s an unrealistic request. I figured I’d post this now because the community needs to start voicing it’s opinions now if we want change for the next game.
Please let me know what you think. Keep it clean too please.

I think the graphics are fine as is. They don’t “need” to be better as that’s more of a want than a necessity. It’s also still past the industry standard and even that would do just fine for the next decade. We’re not dealing with pixel art anymore so I don’t understand the need for ungodly graphics when decent would do just fine. It also frees up time to work on gameplay more than how it looks as the more you mess around with graphics the less time the designers get to play with mechanics.
A bew engine is also unnecessary as proven by h5 using the exact same engine as CE. It’s quite impressive being how it’s the very same engine is where it’s at today.
H5’s visuals looked dated at launch.

343i isn’t a small indie team. Their visuals department spending time to make it look nicer wouldn’t affect the gameplay and mechanics as another team would be handling that.

How do maps get made if they’re always changing the visuals on them? It’s to much going back and forth, watching 343s sprint vids will show how much of that they do. You still haven’t addressed my point tho. Why do we “need” better graphics. What’s wrong with the current one? I seriously hope your reasoning isn’t just because they’re a triple A dev or xboxes flagship group cuz I’d argue visuals shouldn’t be a priority over top notch gameplay while also selling a lot. What good is top notch graphics if it still declines? At least it’d “look good” while bombing. Really I’m not vs graphics but I’m content with them as Is personally.
@ “343 isn’t a small indie team” your point? They still have limited resources nevertheless. There are indie teams who do better with less than big companies who have more at their disposal. The size or resources available really doesn’t matter when people have proven to make do with what they have.
I think Halo 2 Anniversary is the pinnacle of both Halo graphics and artistic style. It’s absolutely stunning and does a great job of polishing a then-decade-old game for the eighth console gen. Halo 5’s graphics are objectively better than 4’s, but the detailing and rendering for everything are severely lacking.
These are probably worst-case pictures of the rendering, but you get the idea.
Here’s a gallery of Reach’s textures for comparison.
Halo 5 could make up for it with a better, non-plastic-y look, but the game doesn’t even have that going for it.
I’m happy with 5’s graphics
the graphics are ok as they are
There are specific things that I would like to see improved, but for the most part H5 looks fine to me. I’ve been satisfied.
The graphics look fine, its the art style that looks horrible and is low textured/plastic making it feel like its dated

Yeah, when I first played H2A I thought I was playing a PC game because the graphics were so different from the older games.
Halo would and could have top teir graphics if you want a $2,000 Xbox scorpio console and you own a 4k HDR tv which is at cheapest another $800, sorry but I’ve seen things on a high end PC and for the extreme cost it still only makes things slighty better.

Not really, you don’t need a 4k monitor and a $2000 dollar Xbox. Look at the Crysis games. You didn’t need any of that and those games were amazing at the time, and still hold up.

That’s what i was trying to say. Most things in the game look really plastic-y

Why not both? Why can’t it be a game with great gameplay and great graphics? It’s not always a trade off. I think if they added a few smaller things like DoF and motion blur it’d go a long way.
Op, I believe that image is from the live-action trailer for Halo 4. Iirc David Fincher directed.
I see nothing wrong with Halo 5’s graphics.
I believe that is art for Halo 4
I am all for Halo’s graphics getting a massive upgrade. We must make the game as beautiful as possible because we love it.
