The original halos followed a specific set of core mechanics that made it as great as it was, melee guns and movement. If anyone of these blocked the other bungie considered it to not be a true halo game. They even said that they disliked dual welding as it disrupted melee and the flow of the game. Sprinting, blocks off both melee and gunplay in favour of being “modern” since when has halo cared about being modern?! It was always about the experience and the paced flow that made you feel like a bad -Yoink-.

I thought it was melee, shooting, and grenades. And since when have you been able to shoot while throwing a grenade? Or shoot while using melee? (barring button combos, but that’s cheating)
Also, please provide a link to where Bungie stated that dual-wielding was removed because it interfered with this so-called “Golden Triangle.”

Too many people misunderstanding the concept of Golden Triangle regardless of their sides.

No it’s Courage, Wisdom and… Wait wrong game!
Seriously is a quote from 15 odd years ago still relevant?
Talking about how important the Golden Triangle is for Halo while not even knowing what makes up the Golden Triangle is SO Waypoint.
The golden triangle died as soon as Halo 2 started production.
The so called “Golden Triangle” of Halo was only there as a guideline for developers in the early days of Halo’s development. As a sort of reminder that; “Guns”, “Grenades” & “Close quarters” should be the main focus of intent. Any other feature added were to be a bonus but with the main focus in mind.
Dual wielding is still within the boundries of the “Golden Triangle”. Let me explain:
You have a gun? Yes
Pros: Double the firepower, more ammunition/rifle.
Cons: Not being able to throw grenades without losing the pro advantage.
Where you able to throw a grenade while dual wielding? No
But if you’d like to, you had to drop your secondary to then pick it up right after.
Where you able to melee while dual wielding? No
But if you’d like to, you had to drop your secondary to then pick it up right after.
To summarize:
It never was a so called “Golden Triangle”, it was there as a guideline to aid the core gameplay mechanic. No side of the triangle was ever lost due to new features, it only added to it. There’s pros and cons to most things. You just had to learn when to use what and when.

I’m pretty sure they removed it citing the impact it had in melee and grenades, referencing the golden triangle.
Pretty sure they also said it wasn’t a defining development philosophy they wanted to stick to.
Here’s a quote from the Halo wikia:
“Bungie refers to the “weapons-grenades-melee” format as the “Golden Triangle of Halo”, which has remained fundamentally unchanged throughout the trilogy.”

This guy gets it.
Halo’s “golden triangle” has been blown out of proportion in order to justify why we need to get rid of Spartan Abilities. It isn’t a particularly valid argument.
This is the second post I’ve seen about the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Halo and it only seems to be an argument to get rid of Spartan Abilities because they don’t let you shoot or whatever whilst you’re doing them, little do people realise you can’t throw a grenade or melee whilst driving a vehicle either.

Because most vehicles have guns on them

-Vehicles aren’t essential to arena gameplay.
-Vehicles are found in their own niche mode.
-You don’t spawn with vehicles.
-You don’t have constant access to vehicles.
-Um, I actually can shoot in certain vehicles while driving.
Do vehicles break “the golden triangle”? Sure. But they’re in no way comparable to spartan abilities.
i though you could melee while driving a hog too… its been a while since I’ve had the opportunity.
Does anybody else think assassinations slightly broke the triangle? Being able to sneak up on a target and perform an insta kill in style seems like it had some effect. Though I guess you could just beat down an enemy still but it was harder because they had to practically pretend to be the Statue of Liberty but with assassinations all you have to do is hold down the button from behind their back and sometimes even get a goofy assassination that shouldn’t have happened.
*chews popcorn loudly
Do you know who owned the original Halo’s?
Someone else.
What is this golden triangle?
A nonexistent thing made by some self labeling veteran of Halo.
What year is this?
2016, something called UPGRADING, the game OP.

Why did it have to be updated? Because of the year?! Lets just crawl everywhere because walking is old ITS 2016 EVERYONE!
I would say Elites would’ve been in it. Cause they have been here since Halo 2

-But in previous games have been found in Arena playlists
-See above point
-But they’re still a game mechanic
-But you they are part of the game, affecting the ‘Golden Triangle’
-Hence why I only mentioned grenades and melee and when driving vehicles
Why are they not comparable to Spartan Abilities? One thing can not be more or less affecting to this kind of thing, it either affects it or it doesn’t. In a lot of ways they are literally the same, they take away some of the Triangle, but also provide their own advantages when doing so.

The Golden Triangle refers to being always able to do one of the three, not any one of the three simultaneously. Sprinting, ground pound, spartan charge, clamber… etc… all disrupt the Golden Triangle.
I can’t speak for Bungie.
