I’ve read countless debates an options about sprint and its role in the Halo Franchise. Often, I’ve come across this “Golden Triangle” argument used to “prove” sprint has no place in Halo.
For those who don’t know, the Golden Triangle in Halo is an idea that every encounter between players in matches would be on equal terms. Without sprint or other movement mechanics, the player had three options to use against other player: weapons, grenades, or melee. This is what the Golden Triangle idea is founded on. In the treads, people use this argument to reason why sprint should be removed. Yes, sprint hinders all three of those combat options and places players on unequal grounds during matches. But, most players fail to realize that the players have always (even since Halo: CE) had encounters on unequal grounds. For Example: Vehicles. In Halo: CE, players who would use vehicles didn’t have access to some of the three combat options. Gunners could only use weapons while Drivers could use none of the three combat mechanics of the Golden Triangle. That fact puts players on unequal grounds. This means the “Golden Triangle” idea was never truly a thing in the Halo Franchise ever! Thus, using this idea to support the remove-sprint trend is utterly idiotic. Because the idea never existed from the beginning.
What nobody likes to mention are the benefits of sprint and the other movement mechanics. Having sprint as an option increases the variety and the learning curve of the game. Players now have to learn the right and wrong times to sprint in order to have your “Golden Triangle” combat mechanics at the reedy. That fact, whether you like or not, increases the skill gap of players more than any Halo previous. All this talk about how old halos had a larger skill gap is complete -Yoink-. More variety and machines=more combat options and strategies=higher learning curve=larger skill gap.
Good read on this one right here.
This will probably get locked since its mainly a sprint thread… in which case you should post Here
You seriously used vehicles to prove that Golden Triangle had been broken since day one?
The fact that you used vehicles to say the golden triangle is broken shows you don’t know the idea behind it. It’s meant for player interactions on foot, not in vehicles. Vehicles are a completely separate part of the Halo sandbox, and therefore the golden triangle does not apply to them.
If Halo 5 has a larger skill gap than previous Halos, why is it that Halo 3 was the most successful casual and competitive Halo? Why is it that 343 has to go and make their own tournament just to have Halo in the esports scene? If Halo 5 was truly the most skillful Halo, then all the competitive leagues would be lining up to feature it in their tournaments. It’s honestly embarrassing that no leagues have picked it up and 343 is forced to make their own.
Sprint doesn’t add any skill to this game at all. 343 have already admitted, multiple times, that the only reason they forced it in is because other games have it. Not because of some false perception of increased skill, but literally because CoD, Battlefield, and every other game under the sun has it. Oh, and because “it’s 2016, games need sprint”. That’s always my favorite reason.

I also love that logic of every game is required to have sprint in present day. I bet every game will require to have jet packs in future. Probably 10 years later?
Sprint is not a bad thing at all
