The thing I resent about that video is that he prefaced the whole thing with the fact that he had a crappy childhood. So now if anyone wants to try to have a rational discussion about why or why not bring back this feature or that… then that person is just a jerk. And then he goes on to say how much he loves Halo and that he wants Old Halo back. The implication being that if the listener doesn’t want Old Halo back then the listener is either too young to have been around for the “glory days,” or they don’t really love Halo, or they don’t love Halo enough, or they just aren’t getting “it,” whatever “it” might be.
I get wanting things back. Nobody wanted firefight back more than me. But a year ago when I was told that it just plain wasn’t gonna happen I didn’t launch a youtube campaign. I understood the fact that 343 is not made up of unlimited money or man-power, and that for every cool feature they put into the game there’s probably another cool feature that had to be cut. Not enough interest, too much money, you know all the reasons. I made my peace with it and I chose to focus on all the amazing things that Halo 5 was and is, instead of all the things that it could have been.
By all means, be broken-hearted, be disappointed, and by all means, voice those opinions. But wrapping up the appeal in a personal hardship tale, while effective at winning sympathy for the individual, is not particularly effective at winning sympathy for the argument. It just makes the rest of us feel like the bully. Which, for the record, I am not.
