Halo's Community

Hello friends,

You may remember me, you may not. I am responsible for the controversial topics of the “Halo 5 Positive Campaign Overview” and “I Think Halo 5 Is The Greatest Halo Of All Time” posts. After reading all of the replies on those two posts, I am pretty sure that people either hate me or agree with me. But however you feel about me, you should know by now that I’m not leaving anytime soon.

I bring this topic to you guys today, because I am saddened by what I see. I don’t think that in the entire 14 years of Halo, I have ever seen the community divided like this. There were a total of 64 likes on my two posts combined so apparently lots of people agreed with me on my topics, but at the same time there were plenty of people who bashed me some even saying that I “am a millennial who is satisfied by the next flashy new game”, “never even played the older Halos”, and “insane for thinking Halo 5 is a good game.” I guess depending on who you ask, I could classify as a number of things, but regardless of that, I am 20 years old and have been gaming since the N64. I played every Halo ever and started doing so at 10 years old. I even have the original Halo: CE and Halo 2 for the first Xbox. Not like the haters will believe that, but hey, I can at least try.

I wish we were more united, but obviously that isn’t going to happen. Halo 5 seems to be a hit or miss for people. You either love it or you hate it, but one way or the other, you will find bashing throughout these forums. I admit, I am guilty of this too, but that is only because I love Halo and when people take out their anger on it, I am going to defend it. I always will. It has been with me since for so long and because of that it has held a special place in my heart. I didn’t care that 343 took over Halo. I didn’t care that they modernized it. I didn’t even care that MCC was a flop at its release, because guess what? If you understood anything about how difficult it was to get four different games all imported to Xbox One, all with multiplayer, and all with their own interfaces, you’d understand why that happened. Even the absolute best companies would encounter problems attempting to do this. But guess what? It works now and I have horrible internet so that should say something right there.

I can’t tell you how to feel about Halo 5, but I can tell you this. If you want Halo to be like the days of old, you are out of luck. 343 has modernized Halo and that is how it’s going to stay. If you hate that, then I would suggest you move on to something else. I wish more people would be accepting of it, but I can understand why they aren’t. Halo 5 isn’t perfect, no game is. However, never in Halo history has its multiplayer captured my attention like Halo 5 has. Not even 6,000 games of Halo: Reach has made me want to play Halo as much as Halo 5 has. It’s just flat out fun to me and I hope people understand that. I just hope that someday I can come to these forums and not have to wonder how many negative posts I’ll see on that day.

I agree.

The Halo community is very divided right now. It’s because, let’s be honest, 343i literally changed everything about Halo. The new Halo’s play completely different.
I’m not saying they’re bad games (Well, actually, yeah Halo 4 was pretty bad). Halo 5 is actually a pretty good game. But there’s no denying it’s a completely different game now.

I don’t hate Halo 5, nor did I ever think it will be the best Halo. I did know that Halo 5 would be a good game, and it is. If you blatantly say a game is broken and no one should play it you need to step back and look at what the game did right. Yes, Halo is modernized and this, in your eyes may be an improvement, or a terrible idea. I personally think the Halo 5 multiplayer is a great addition to Halo, although the removal of splitscreen stopped the game from reaching its full potential. Some people say Halo is now Call of Duty in space, but Halo 5 seems to play very much like other Halos just with the addition of Spartan Abilities. I wish the Halo community would stop being so blind about these changes. This includes the people who say “Halo always should’ve been like this! Halo 1-3 were stupid!”. That is also illogical, the classic Halos were all revolutionary in their own ways. I am hoping the modern Halos can also be revolutionary.

And that’s exactly why this community is so divided. Halo 5 is much different than any of the “classic” Halos and depending on a number of things you will either find yourself constantly playing the game or hating it altogether. I played “classic” Halo multiplayer before and I had no problems adjusting to Halo 5.

Glad to see that you think Halo 5 isn’t broken, because it’s not. I definitely don’t think Halo should have always been like this and I don’t think Halo 1-3 are stupid, but I will say that I enjoy the new changes to Halo.

That wall of text… What exactly is the point of this thread? A comment about your other threads?

i do agree that h5 is fun and is my favorite halo since halo 3. The others were too noob friendly and hated the mechanics. I do complain about 343’s business ethics and decisions but I think they did great for the multiplayer assuming they add more maps and playlist and do stuff for the community to keep it alive and thriving.

hey…anything is better than the Destiny community right?

Actually you are wrong about modernizing Halo. What Halo 5 has taught me is that if you are a true fan of Halo and ask for things like Sprint and Spartan Abilities to never be added or be removed, you are told, Halo must Evolve. But if radar is reduced and you are forced to play with skill and have better matches, then THIS IS MADNESS THAT MUST REVERT BACK TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF HALO! Basically, it took radar being changed for everyone to finally realize that when something truly near and dear to your heart changes about your favorite game, its hard to adapt. Yet all those people who want radar changed don’t give a damn about the thousands of people who don’t want sprint and don’t want Spartan abilities. How is it fair that some people are forced to accept change while others aren’t?

Very well said.

Pretty well said, I disagreed with you on some major topics but then again you had some great points. I’ve been humbled quite a few times on here in the sense that maybe I didn’t see where someone was coming from.

We need to quit attacking each other in the most childish ways. You can disagree without throwing a tantrum.

ALSO agree with Nystic, makes an amazing point.

Thank you! And thanks to Willko too!

You can’t expect unison when 343 comes in, takes a well-established franchise with millions of fans, and changes it to the degree that it’s barely recognizable.
How would that ever allow for a unified community?

The people who are pissed off are rightfully pissed off because they loved Halo, and now it’s gone.
Why wouldn’t the veterans be upset?

The new direction is bound to attract many people, rightfully so, but those are people who didn’t like Halo in the past (save for a small minority, of course).

This is oil and water. These two groups are inherently opposing.

What makes no sense is why 343 thinks changing Halo into partial COD would attract COD players.
No…COD players will just stick with full COD.
If COD suddenly introduced Halo-esque ideas, I wouldn’t suddenly switch to COD, I’d play actual Halo.
This is lost on 343.
They inherited an amazing franchise that had tons of loyal fans, and tons of integrity.
They inherited a ‘second place on the charts’ franchise, which it was content being, and that should’ve been good enough for them… but no, they got greedy, alienated the existing fanbase, and made the game something completely non-recognizable that nobody can identify with, and nobody will remember in 6 months.
They’ve destroyed what Halo was.

Do you think Tarantino cares that Michael Bay makes more money than him?
No; because he knows his product has more integrity.
Halo is now Pulp Fiction II: Jules vs. The Aliens - a SyFi Adventure.

The point of this thread is to emphasize the division of the Halo community which has been increasing since 343 took over. I was referring to my other posts to further my point of the Halo community being divided. Glad to see that you enjoy Halo 5! I’m sure 343 will do a good job keeping Halo 5 alive, especially with the free dlc maps, forge, and additional playlists.

I played old Halo, I love and still love old Halo for the feels, the campaign, the gamemodes…

But the more I play recent game the more I wanted a new gameplay on Halo (in MP at least) I was so tired of Halo 2 A in the MCC for exemple.

I played new Halo 4 and 5 and in MP Halo 5 is very very good. In campaign a bit less and it lack of gamemodes, but the game still awesome.
It’s Halo for the new gen, which is what I wanted.

Now Yes people can love or hate it, I just deal with it, I like all the Halos and I’m fine.

I like the direction they are taking it. Series need to evolve. 343 even gave people fair warning that this was going to be a very different Halo. The loudest people are the ones who complain and feel they have been cheated out of something that was owed to them. That’s their own fault. I just wish there wasn’t so much negativity on these forums. It’s a little disgusting.

343 poured lots of hard work into this game while the people who are complaining sat on their butts, eager to find out just how many things wrong they could find with this game. It’s sad when people set so many unrealistic expectations about what a game should be, because when even one of those expectations isn’t met, the game is automatically garbage to these people.

If Halo stayed classic you would have people say its the same Halo with no changes. When you change things people say it’s not Halo anymore. 343 can’t win, you guys realize that right? Let’s take it for what it’s worth. i think its fun. It can be improved but its still a good game.

Another one who says halo should evolve huh, let me ask you something, should radar range be increased?

Well said and agreed on all accounts. Halo 5 is an outstanding game and I am enjoying every minute of it. I feel 343 did a fantastic job bringing Halo into the current gen and I find it sad to see how entitled this community is. I enjoyed all prior Halo games and have played them many times, but quite frankly they are dated and slow and it was time for a facelift. 343 delivered on all accounts. I love this game and am enjoying every second of it.

Furthermore, you are spot on when it comes to the MCC issue. Most people who do not understand gaming or programming cannot begin to understand how complex a task it was to bring four different game engines under one hood and try to make it work. Microsoft rushed it that is what it boils down to. 343 worked their -Yoinks!- off to fix it and by and large it works just fine. For those vets that simply cannot let go of the past, the MCC is right there go back and play it and stop bringing negativity to this community. If you do not like the game, stop complaining and go play something else.

Think on this though for a second before you start to wax poetic about Call of Destiny or Betafront…With Halo 5, for $60 bucks, you got a rich and detailed campaign with superb new combat and movement mechanics all running at 60fps with almost no bugs at all. You got co-op that works seamlessly and multiplayer that is superb running on dedicated servers that have performed very well so far. You got a brand new game mode in Warzone and superb Arena maps. There is no season pass nonsense or cut content. No overpriced DLC nonsense. All maps and content updates are FREE. I repeat…all maps and content updates are FREE. 343 have made it very clear that they have a ton of new content and maps on the way and have already released updated maps and addressed small issues in the first week. Call of Destiny is a pathetic reskin of the same game on the same engine that Activision releases every year. Pure garbage. Cut content DLC heavy nonsense. Battlefront is running at 720p on the XBox One and was laggy and weak in terms of shooting mechanics. There is no campaign but they want you to purchase a $50 dollar season pass??? On what planet is that even close to what Halo 5 has offered you right out of the gate?

I love Halo 5 and it is hands down my favorite installment in the series. I can’t wait to see what 343 has in store going forward.
