Halo5 - Accidentally pressing right thumbstick

So I use helljumper layout and often during fights I accidentally press the right thumbstick and melee which then gets me killed. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’d like to map melee to something else but the control settings don’t seem to allow that level of granularity.

I had that same exact problem of accidentally pressing the melee button. I changed my controls to bumper jumper which was the closest thing I could find to helljumper. For bumper jumper smart link is changed to right stick, melee is right bumper, and grenade is left trigger. Its basically the old Halo version of helljumper.

I really like having smart link on the left trigger as I end up using it often that way and engaging it wont move your reticle like pushing down on the thumbstick does. With bumper jumper I’d just be smart linking by accident instead of melee-ing so I don’t know if that gains me anything. Thanks though.

Only way to change mapping is with the elite controllers as far as I know

you can change any button mapping in the xbox configuration, but is a little confusing

You’re able to adjust any controller configuration with the Xbox Accessories app on your console.

Have you tried looking for the Clench Protection setting within Halo 5? I believe that helps to prevent the issue you’re having with accidental pressing the sticks.

That name always makes me chuckle. Do you mind explaining how Clench Protection works? I have not understood it and toggling it on/off did not really help to clarify it either.

It’s one of those settings you don’t really notice when playing which I guess is kind of the point of it haha.

The idea behind it (from my understanding) is that it prevents you accidentally scoping it during gunfights. How it goes into knowing that specifically I’m not too sure, might be when you’re getting fired at and you’re shooting back idk.
People squeeze their controller when they’re in intense gameplay scenarios so it’s basically accounting for any misclicks you make.

Hope that cleared it up to some extent
