  6. What game-types would you not like to see return in Halo4?

Feel free to add your own questions.

  1. Should players be allowed to chose their own color?
Yes, there’s no reason not to allow players to have whatever color they want.

  2. Should players be allowed to see others gamertag in battle?
Yep, you just need to know who you’re fighting

  3. Should players be allowed to be in party chat?
Yes, Halo has never disabled party chat and I don’t see why now.

  4. How many players should be in a FFA game?
    I’d say 8-10.

  5. Do we need objective modes in FFA?
No sir we don’t. I just don’t see the skill in chasing down the oddball and just holding onto it, when you could’ve been Slaying all along and proving skill against the other players by testing strafe and map movement and seeing who has the better BR/DMR/Carb.

  6. What game-types would you not like to see return in Halo4?
I like all gametypes even Dino Blasters but for FFA, Slayer is the only Gametype needed.

Feel free to add your own questions.
With the additions of the Carbine and the DMR would you like to have FFA DMRS, FFA Carbs, or even mix it up with FFA BRS/DMR or FFA BR/Carbs?

  1. NO. I hate seeing the hot pink color changing cheaters!

  2. NO. This will combat cheaters across the board. And promote more sportsman like conduct.

  3. NO. If 343i wanted to copy off of COD, this would be one implementation they SHOULD take away from them for the better.

  4. 8-10? 6-8 may be a bit low esp. when players quit out.

  5. Very little. Slayer is by far the best game type in my opinion. Oddball promotes camping and running. Swords are also fairly NOT fun.

  6. IDK…Slayer BRS and I am set!

I’ve played thousands of FFA matches in H3 and Reach (and COD).

Playlists - I would like to see a Ranked FFA list and a Social FFA list.

Objectives - Social yes, ranked pure slayer so no. Mix of AR, BR or Snipers as starting weapons in ranked. Never ever play Swords as a starting weapon ever again - host wins every time.

Party Chat - It’s an XBL feature so you can’t really turn it off. I liked the way Arena presented ‘Ranked’ MM in Halo Reach. You didn’t know who you were playing. Made it harder to boost. The amount of boosting in matches of H3 I have played is depressing. I think I went about 20 matches of Lone Wolves objectives without a legit match. KOTH and Oddball were absurd. The nerds will find someway to boost but make it as hard as possible.

Power Weapons - Arena FFA in Reach featured no power weapons, just DMR and AR start. Halo 3 had power weapons and powerups that people fought for control over. I prefer a match where there is something to fight for - Rockets, Shotgun, Sniper - should be there in Halo 4. Adds elements of control and skills with other critical weapons.

Kill limit or time limit or ratio? - 25 kills or 10 minutes? Arena tried something in Reach that wasn’t popular - penalise people for their deaths. Someone going 22 and 25 for -3 places higher than someone who went 19 and 7 for +12 in traditional scoring. Boosters in Halo 3 Lone Wolves used this technique frequently. Arena ratings were very unpopular. MLG FFA rules might be better with a 10 minute limit without a kill limit.

Drop in / Drop Out - I hate this feature. Happens in COD all the time - you join a match and there’s 2 kills left so you get a loss on your service record. I think this needs to be reconsidered.

Player count - entirely dependent on map size. 8 very skilled players is tense on some maps and with AR starts just turns into a melee fest. 7 might actually be a sweet spot with top 3 placing and bottom 4 a loss.

> Questions for discussions:

> 1. Should players be allowed to chose their own color?

Yes as long as the color spectrum doesn’t cause issues.

> 2. Should players be allowed to see others gamertag in battle?

When they’re looking at them why not? Otherwise No.

> 3. Should players be allowed to be in party chat?

Certainly, I played LW, and Rumble Slayer in party chat a lot. Get’s ya know… Lonely.

> 4. How many players should be in a FFA game?

6 - 8

> 5. Do we need objective modes in FFA?

King of the Hill, Mosh Pit, and Odd Ball.

> 6. What game-types would you not like to see return in Halo4?

Swords. No reason to keep that it is just ridiculous.

> Feel free to add your own questions.

I also think Slayer should have the highest weighting with KOTH following it.

  1. Yes, no reason they shouldn’t it gives you more of a customization.

2.Yes

3.Yes. i don’t like to hear little 12 year olds scream in game chat/ plus i would love to talk to my friends while playing some halo.

4.6-8

5.YES, it adds more variation and is fun.

  1. Stock pile, Headhunter, invasion- basically all the stuff terrible Reach brought to the table.

Looking forward to halo 4  looks great!
plus: i hate reach’s armory just scrap it all the armor looked terrible it was all clunky and cheap (hence spartan 3s lol) but still i hope they make the new spartan 4s Mjoinir look way icer (it does already)

Yea, two FFA playlists would be nice! Also, agree on the Objective part. I think party chat can be disabled if Call of Duty does it. I have faith 343 will have the drop in and drop out in select playlists. That should be in social!

Agreed with everything except getting rid of swords in Social, that’s my chill gametype

Kinda contradicting my post but I have a bit of a one track mind and I was thinking about just ranked

  1. Should players be allowed to chose their own color?
Yes, I like making myself look different from the rest
  2. Should players be allowed to see others gamertag in battle?
Sure, never had a problem with it before.
  3. Should players be allowed to be in party chat?
Yes and no, (Yes) I’m usally talking to some friends playing different games. (No) Same game party chat=Team work or opposite of FFA
  4. How many players should be in a FFA game?
6-8 min 10-16 max (depends on map to me)
  5. Do we need objective modes in FFA?
NO, CTF and FFA don’t mix in my mind
  6. What game-types would you not like to see return in Halo4?
I think I spent to much time in Infection and Grifball to be able to answer that question.

Excellent post.

You bring up some good points. Those are defiantly some issues players run into when they get to the top tier of ranks.

I could also see the no gamer-tag thing working really well. Players would not run away from the leader or spot their friends if they get in the same game.

There’s too many random elements in Oddball and Crazy King to be considered fair in a ranked list. They’re fine in team lists, not FFA

NO OBJECTIVE. ALL THE GAME TURNS INTO IS SUICIDE RUSHING WHATEVER THE HELL THE OBJECTIVE IS.

Social can have anything and everything, including Swords. Headhunter, while being totally crazy, still has its place but in no way should be part of a ranked list. I’ve had some hilarious and frustrating moments in Headhunter in Halo Reach and it would be sad to see the gametype finish.

The only change I would bring is that max skulls is 10 and you get a Skullamanjaro medal but the game goes on to 25 still.

Sounds good to me.

Objective modes and swords for unranked FFA.
Slayer modes for ranked FFA.

It appears that most here never witnessed all the cheating in the 45-50 ranks. I really wish that gamertags would not appear in FFA modes and make everyone set to a default color to effectively ELIMINATE those ways of cheating. Oh well, maybe that will be argued for in Halo5.

  1. Should players be allowed to chose their own color? Yes. What’s wrong with that?

  2. Should players be allowed to see others gamertag in battle? Yup. That way you know who you’re in an epic BR battle with.

  3. Should players be allowed to be in party chat? Yes. I don’t want to talk to random players in an FFA game. In Team Slayer, maybe not, but FFA is the worst playlist to be in game chat in.

  4. How many players should be in a FFA game? Up to 8 players.

  5. Do we need objective modes in FFA? Yeah, Oddball is nice. KotH sucks, though. Maybe just Oddball.

  6. What game-types would you not like to see return in Halo4? Crazy King.

  1. Should players be allowed to chose their own color?
    Yes.
  2. Should players be allowed to see others gamertag in battle?
Yes, or at least make it optional.
  3. Should players be allowed to be in party chat?
Yes players should always have a choice in my opinion.
  4. How many players should be in a FFA game?
    6-10 i’d say.
  5. Do we need objective modes in FFA?
No. I am tired of objective in rumble pit, so maybe a small amount, but more slayer.
  6. What game-types would you not like to see return in Halo4?
    RocketHog race.

Is instant spawn a good thing for FFA?

Should guests be allowed?

Should Parties be allowed?

> 1. Should players be allowed to chose their own color? Yes. What’s wrong with that?

Cheating.

Esp. on the higher end of the ranks.

There are simple little fixes 343i can make to completely evolve FFA in Halo4. But it appears the hardcore FFA players are not on this forum to make any noise about it.

Think about how hard it would be for cheaters if everyone was set to a default color. Or gamertags did not show above their heads.

Having gotten a Lone Wolves 50 before, I will speak of the problems that are present and how they can be fixed. This applies to ranked only.

With regards to te gameplay and playlists:

I think that Slayer/Slayer BRs/Slayer DMRs should be the only gametypes. Swords is an awful gametype. Have power weapons on faster spawns or not at all to prevent camping. Have maps that are balanced with fair initial spawns (in Halo 3 whoever spawned at Sniper tower got Overshield and Snipe straight off).

With regards to cheaters:

I think that colour change should be allowed, after all it people should have the choice. When searching, do not allow people to search with prefence to language. Also when searching, keep the quantity of players found hidden and place straight into a game (timing searches and intentionally finding certain players by this is commonplace). Hide gamertags when loading and voting prior to game. When in game gamertags should be shown for tactical reasons. Banning players from party chat seems excessive, but do not allow access other players gamer profiles in game.

I believe this coupled with a Trueskill ranking system would make fo some excellent Ranked FFA.

For Social FFA, if Fiesta slayer makes an appearance, I will be one happy gamer.

Your ideas would work too.

We need more people that are 50 high to echo our complaints. These problems will follow suit straight into Halo5. I still expect FFA in Halo4 to be great tho. Esp. early on with a high population. Language boosting is another problem I failed to mention but you did.

  1. Yes, why shouldn’t they be?

  2. Again, yes. I don’t see the problem with it.

  3. Yep, especially in FFA

  4. I would say 6-10. Small numbers worked well in Halo 3’s lone wolves, but I liked having a few more players in Rumble Pit, both in Halo 3 and Reach.

  5. Headhunters was a -Yoink- ton of fun, so the more objective-type games, the better.

  6. I would rather see a large integration of gametypes. Let’s get more headhunter, juggernaut, and those types of games.
