Halo Xbox One - Sprint + Maps

There are a lot of people that complain about sprint but I can tell you guys one thing about sprint. 343 won’t remove it because they can’t just ‘downgrade’ a feature. I know this will upset nostlagia people but I want to clear up one thing to defend 343. Bungie started with sprint NOT 343!

So the thing I wanted to say about sprint is that I’m fine with sprint as long as 343 makes sure they add a lot of good maps this time and a lot of arena styled maps because arena styled maps are the maps that work the best for Halo and give most of the time the best Halo gameplay. Also some symmetrical maps are also good because they will fit very well for the competitive scene.

I loved the old Halo’s and I hope 343 adds an option in custom games for the people that like to turn off sprint.

343 just make sure you guys add the right movement speed from the beginning and if you guys make sure the maps are good and play very good with sprint and fun to play I believe sprint will be a less problem.

Feel free to discuss anything related to sprint and maps!

If they remove sprint I’m fine with that but I’m just trying to be realistic especially with MS telling 343 what they should do…

EDIT:

Majestic DLC is designed on a classic Halo way and it works fine with sprint and I really hope 343 does know this and does see this so I hope they will add more maps with a classic Halo design because I don’t see any reason why they would change the way they design maps even with sprint because Majestic works fine with sprint and it designed in a Classic Halo style.

So they won’t remove sprint yet you want more arena maps…

Sprint is not required and should not be required for arena style maps. The moment you introduce sprint, the default speed must be reduced and that in-turn destroys strafe. (You get a boring game again)

They can remove whatever they want for the sake of gameplay.

MS remove the always on, which most of the fans boys didn’t read how it was going to work and screw yourself out of a better system with it being on.

Please refer to my thread: ‘The Appeal To Novelty’

I don’t think you understand the connection between movement, and map design.

If sprint is included, then the maps will most certainly be designed around that.
Maps are designed around core mechanics, not the other way round.

If you dislike map design in Halo 4 when it comes to sight lines, cover, overall size, distance from cover to cover and overall map layout, then you are doing yourself a disservice by asking for sprint to return.

Sprint has multiple devastating effects on Halo, and there are three legitimate (not based in fantasy) reasons why people like sprint:

 1. It creates an illusion of speed, because base speed is slowed down, and short bursts of speed tell our brains that we are getting there fast. But it is an illusion after all, as maps have been designed to accommodate sprint. Traversing maps is no different.

If you were to jog from one side of a room to the other, and that room was 10 metres across, then you were to jog twice as fast in a room which was 20 metres across, your brain would likely interpret the latter as a shorter time.
Why? Because our brains are much more sensitive differences in speed, than to differences in time.

That’s why it feels more rewarding to sprint in bursts than it does to move at a constant.

 1. It makes up for bad positioning, and allows players to escape encounters easier than they could without sprint, thanks to weapon lowering.

 2. It is more consistent with other shooters of today, making the switch between games a little less jarring and inconvenient.

Look I’m not saying I want it to return but I’m saying that if they bring it back what they most likely will they should atleast add some more arena styled maps like haven. Haven is arena styled and it works very well with sprint and plays very fun and feels like a Halo map.

When you look at the majestic DLC, those maps are designed in the CLASSIC HALO way and they work perfectly fine with sprint so if they would add more maps like Majestic DLC I’m with that.

I wish the same could be said after 343i ‘downgraded’ Custom Games and Forge…

OT: I think a more fitting way to allow Sprint and Classic Maps to coexist would be to adjust the player speeds for Classic and Infinity.

[/li]- Classic Speed: 75
- Sprint Speed: 100
- Infinity Speed: 50
**
With that being initiated, Sprint can work with Classic Sized maps and we won’t be seeing these terrible, over-sized, cluttered maps anymore.

Maybe or atleast they should give us the option to turn sprint off in custom games. Als9o if they make more classic designed maps like the Majestic Mappack we still have that classic Halo feel only with sprint. Also if they would add more maps like haven it would be a classic halo feel too.**

The Majestic Maps are an example of maps that do fit very well with sprint and do have a classic halo feel. I hope 343 learned from this.**

I see what you’re saying, Muscle.
If 343 keeps Sprint, the maps should be designed similarly to the Majestic DLC.
However, Sprint causes other issues as well.

Ultimately, it’s best to remove Sprint from MM.
As it not only complicates map design,
but it also creates other issues and takes a small bit of Halo’s uniqueness away.

I get that it’s not specifically sprint that you’re against and that you’re just trying to work around the idea that sprint will probably stay, but I think you’re better off keeping hopeful that it will be removed and asking for that. Maps are much more likely to be what you like if sprint isn’t in the game.

Sprint should be the default armor ability while others will be picked up on the map, and weapons should be picked up on the map as well.
