Halo Xbox One HAS to be good! Rant...

I know it’s obviously been said many, many, many times; but it’s simple - Halo Xbox One MUST be good.

Me and my brother had been playing Halo for years, on splitscreen and with friends of course. Now, however, with the release of Halo 4, we have not played together. Now he has just turned 15, and HE no longer wants to play Halo whatsoever. There must be a fundamental issue with the gameplay (and yes, I mean gameplay, not just a few weapon skins or balancing issues - The actual core mechanics of the game) if somebody this young is going off a Halo game, when usually people around this age love the game.

And I’m also fed up of the community. Yes, I said it. I don’t care if I get hate. Saying I’m fed up may also be a bit over the top, however it is becoming seemingly obvious that all your suggestions are around the issue of Sprint, or nerfing weapons or all those little things. Yes, 343 will listen, and is likely changing these issues as we speak.

But guys… what you aren’t doing is asking 343 to show some balls and pull something out of the bag! This is NEXT GEN HALO. HALO. Ask yourselves why it went downhill. Was it loadouts? No. It was because people got bored of the game; yes it changed but there was never anything HUGELY new that would revolutionize gaming as Halo did all those years ago. As I stated previously, this is NEXT GEN Halo. We need to be asking 343 for some real game-changing features, we want Space Battles, Huge (but also small arena) maps with massive player counts on a specific gamemode! The game is 13 years old for christ sake, and although it’s my favourite ever franchise, I’m going to admit the multiplayer aspect of the game is getting very stale and repetitive.

That’s what annoys me about the Halo community. There are always people defending a lazy developer; saying ‘Oo no we can’t possibly have AI in Forge because the engine isn’t capable’ or ‘We can’t possibly get biomes within Forge World’ or ‘32 V 32, what do you think this is? Microsoft’s flagship gaming franchise?’.

Well do you know what… it IS possible! 343 have pretty much infinite(y) resources. Halo is Microsoft’s IP baby, so they should be able to throw any one, any thing, or any amount of money in there to create an amazing game. These big games never take risks.

Please, for the love of God, STOP defending the developer and actually for once challenge them to do something incredible with the next game.

Now, I don’t want to sound too mean on 343. I’m sure they’re working hard to create a compelling next entry into the Halo universe, but I am just saying that we need something amazing, or it’s inevitable that Halo is going to get dropped behind other new franchises.

Unfortunately it doesn’t have to be good at all. People have shown repeatedly that they will buy something just due to brand loyalty: look at Call of Duty, the formula hasn’t been changed in years so there is no real reason to buy the updated product yet people still do.

We all want the next Halo to be amazing but even if it isn’t people will buy it. Unfortunately a vocal minority of the fans don’t want anything to change even if it will kill the franchise.

True, sad reality really  I just want Halo to be different, as in my eyes, it’s something that is far better than any of the other mainstream gaming franchises. I want them to make something truly revolutionary, despite the fact I know they want. The idea of this ‘HUB World’ speculation that’s been going round in reply to the concept art does sound slightly promising though at least

Chances are though that 343 are just going to get annoyed and force change for the stubborn fans. Like a mother asking a child to put on a new shirt rather than wearing the old one eventually the mother becomes aggressive and starts yelling

I’m so glad you stopped there.

Well done sir, your post has been one of few of late that has given me the will power to summon up the energy to log in and reply.

First of all as a long time halo fan, i can see that you’re frustrated in the way that the franchise has turned out (I big it up - How halo 4 turned out), and i of all people know how good a rant can be, letting off steam and putting the world to rights, but it still warrants perspective.

These conversations about sprint, weapon balance, loadouts, ordinance, perks, etc. are the product of what you mentioned above:

> HE no longer wants to play Halo whatsoever. There must be a fundamental issue with the gameplay

Yes, there will always be issues with weapon balancing with every game, but the fundamental issues, what made Halo - Halo is what these discussions are about. People have played Halo 4 finding it a not a fun game to play, looking back at older Halos which they did enjoy and figuring out what the difference is.

Tedious and repetitive these discussions you may find, it may be all worth it if the next Halo turns out a success.

> But guys… what you aren’t doing is asking 343 to show some balls and pull something out of the bag!

Don’t take this the wrong way, but how long have you been here? Obviously not very otherwise you would have seen the flood (pardon the pun) of threads/posts regarding innovation post-Halo 4. Admittingly there has been little discussion of this lately (which is why I have scarcely been on), but these discussions are not rare to find.

Thank you for pointing out that this is Next-gen Halo, I’ll file it next to the other 100s of threads stating as such. The community HAS been asking for revolutionizing gameplay, but have been cautious of being too much (debating whether or not that this was one of the causes of Halo 4’s failure.

Space-battles: Yes! Great idea!.. but for the fact that this is not the first mention of it…

Bigger Player counts: Now come on, you can’t have not noticed one of the more frequent threads regarding this issue.

This is the reason I logged in.
Yes I admit that people like this can be annoying. I remember quite a while ago when someone brought up the subject of a terrain editor, and another person said that it was not possible. Then what happened? Far Cry 3 was released and the community was like “THIS! WE WANT THIS!”.

The benefit of having these people is the fact that they are realists at times. They prevent the community from getting their expectations too high and inevitably being disappointed. They also keep the threads about ridiculous threads to a minimum such having 100v100 or an infintely large forge and forge resources.

> Now, I don’t want to sound too mean on 343. I’m sure they’re working hard to create a compelling next entry into the Halo universe, but I am just saying that we need something amazing, or it’s inevitable that Halo is going to get dropped behind other new franchises.

This is very much the view of the community.

I can appreciate your frustration, however the reason I commented on your post is that it seems to be aimed at the community. If the devs made a game based around the community, then it’d be pretty awesome.

Counter-rant over.

And the same flood of ideas post-Reach that all got ignored and for the most part are lost to history. I can’t even tell you how many threads there were about new things for Forge, almost all of the ideas people suggest for Forge now were suggested back long before Halo 4 came out. I even remember a Hot Topic on B.net about some massive gametype/map that someone thought of and had at least hundreds of people supporting.

Ok, thanks for replying. But in short, I was trying to point out that I know I am not the only one making these kind of suggestions, it’s just that there simply isn’t enough demand for it. For instance, I know there has been some talk of Space Battles etc, but we need EVERYONE to challenge 343 with the idea so they actually put it in the game. Because lets be honest, features such as this are clearly not going to be in the next Halo game as much as we would like them to be.
