Halo Will Soon Die

It’s this simple.

Microsoft, in keeping with its legal obligations to protect its IP, has decided to issue DCMA takedowns to the creators of El Dewrito.

Public outcry is at an absurd level, and, though sometimes misinformed, an appropriate response.

Halo soon will die unless an official alternative is announced, and soon. The audience for Halo 5 is not the same audience that fell in love with the franchise after its first installment, and likely never will be. There needs to be something that keeps this community alive, and without El Dewrito, that role goes unfulfilled.

My worry is that Microsoft is too stingy with it’s own intellectual property to release such a successful franchise as anything but a console exclusive. Halo 6, if it ever happens, will no doubt be exclusive. The older fans have shown that a huge market exists for a more classic experience on PC. Ignoring this is in my opinion foolish. Without something soon, all hope may be lost.

My plea to Microsoft and 343 Industries is to either revive the Halo Online project and extend its scope beyond the Russian market, or announce an altogether new project that would bring the classic Halo experience to PC once more.

Just so no one gets the wrong impression: no DMCA takedown notices were sent out by Microsoft. That is misinformation.
