Halo Weaponry

Does anyone else dislike how often guns change in the halo Franchise? Looking at Infinite the same is happening again. I don’t mind new introductions or newer versions, but changing the entire weapons use is irritating to me. Eg. The pistol from 1 - 4

Oh man, the pistol is no joke when it has come to evolution. Idt any of the games have the dame pistol, all enjoyable, but all sooooo different

Nope… I love how Halo changes and you have to learn new skills and tactics. Sure some changes have been good and some bad but who wants the same game packaged up and resold to you year after year in the name of “it’s new”. Sadly more and more like the same as it means they will be good at it right away and they won’t have to put work in getting good.

From a skill stand point I understand. But canonically I don’t understand it.

Well, look at it this way. The Glock isn’t the only pistol in the world and there are different variants such as the 17L and the P80. All weapons change in some manner overtime whether by design or functionality.

Fair point. But why does the exact same gun function differently? That’s my gripe. Pistol in CE compared to 3. Im willing to accept the one in 2 is a different gun.

The pistol in Halo 3 isn’t the same. It’s a different variant of the M6. The pistol that appears in Halo: Combat Evolved is the M6D; the pistol that appears in Halo 3 is the M6G.

I like that guns change, aside from addressing previous gun issues it mixes stuff up.

Call me a bloodstained heathen but I didnt want to use the SPNKR launcher for 15 damn years exclusively, mix it up a little.

Nor do I want to see a return of that bullcrap CE Magnum that killed the MP balancing because the only thing superior is a sniper or rockets.

Or that stupid as -Yoink- Reach DMR which dominates Reach because its the only gun worth using with zero real tradeoffs you cant compensate for.

Plus I really wanna shoot the pistol we see in Infinite. Its like the Halo 2 pistol but useful instead of just quick.

TL;DR: I dont mind change, Reach DMR is stupid and I wanna shoot the Halo Infinite pistol.

so Halo shouldn’t have a standard weapon suitable for all ranges? CE is the best game by far and the magnum is a massive piece in making sure the MP is competitive.
Mix it up a little? like H5? remember the community backlash? and now the same thing with the shotgun and pistol

Putting words in my mouth isnt really helping your point.

The CE pistol is literally too good and CE has garbage MP because of that sole reason, its not impossible to balance a hand cannon. DMR literally makes the alternatives look like a joke. Ive always been fine with the BRs role as it has been, but frankly the games that introduced us to the Magnum/DMR have the worst versions of it.

Also community backlash means literally nothing to me this community couldnt change a damn lightbulb if they were actually electricians.

Halo 2 and 3’s BR is the exact same thing as CE’s magnum, effective at all ranges and functions as the starting precision weapon.

CE’s MP is garbage? that’s why it’s so fondly remembered and so competitive in MCC playlists?

Community backlash exists for a reason, doesn’t matter how dumb the community is because 343 still found a way to screw it up and the community is rightly upset

I like when they introduce new gun mechanics but only when they add a layer to the existing weapon. For example from CE to 2, locking onto vehicles for rockets is great. Downgrading arguably the most iconic primary weapon from a three shot kill to a pea shooter was terrible. I’d prefer they made the carbine do the new burst fire mechanic and left the BR out for a good magnum.

I think Halo suffers from the expectation that each new game will add new weapons. That’s unsustainable and we already have an over saturated sandbox. Consistency makes the new games more accessible to fans of every old version, not just the latest. Consider this: if you ever played classic Doom, you instinctively know what weapon to use against which enemy in Doom 16 or eternal. The weapons have been upgraded, but they haven’t changed their slot or use. As a CE expert, I have no idea what to do with half of the weapons of Halo 4. I have no idea what the subtle differences between the carbine, needle rifle, BR, and light rifle are supposed to be. From a casual perspective, they’re four guns all doing the exact same thing, but a multiplayer map will have all of them.

You do realise I have been stating my opinion right.

I dont think it necessary to divulge that but it’s obvious you think I’m acting as some sort of false authority. Im not. Frankly though I dont care what this community has to say about anything, 99% of the time it just isnt -Yoinking!- worth it anymore.
