Halo Waypoint Performance & Bugs

343,

I’m really disappointed with Halo Waypoint. The overall UI design is poor both in terms of appearance and behaviour. The available functionality with respect to player stats is poor. And the performance is especially poor.

I could live with the poor design and maybe the reduced player stats but the performance is unbearable. The screen draw / page update time is horrific. The IPad and IPhone Apps frequently crash (as does the website - I’ve lost track of the number of Null Exception Error messages I’ve received).

As a software developer myself I think Halo Waypoint’s performance demonstrates a level of unprofessionalism that thankfully we rarely see today. I worry for Halo 4.

After years of design iteration with Bungie we have taken a massive step backwards. How can this be? Its not like you don’t know what the customer wants. The entire halo community is centred around player stats. Without it (and I believe we are currently without it as Waypoint is unusable) then Halo becomes a very different and poorer game.

At the very least can you please, please, please improve the performance and fix the bugs.

Thanks

Didsbo

Agreed.

It irritates me how people can compare this website to Bungie, they have had years to perfect their stats section and site in general.

I do agree that 343i went with fancy over function, but they are new, give it time and it will gradually improve.

Yea waypoint on android seems to be unusable right now…
on the console, everytime i try and play a video, the background music kicks in, making it impossible to hear what is going on in it…
btw ads? really?
not looking too good for a upcoming AAA title…

Dude it’s MICROSOFT. They’ve had YEARS to perfect making a functional website. They should have the best website of them all.

Just because it’s microsoft doesn’t mean it will be perfect within seconds, it takes time, no matter who you are, or what kind of company you are.

There has been ample amount of time. This website has been subpar since day 1. They knew this day was coming.

I have hope. But so far nothing… =/

The medals are also broken I have not once in my entire reach time ever get a sticky spree evveeerrr . At least not in mm. I also have fore the 126 double kills. This may be a bug but check how many medals you have

Once again, it still takes time, they couldn’t have the web team working on stats, game history, everything we already have, along with the file sharing feature coming soon AND the Halo 4 pages that will be added with Halo 4’s release.

I very rarely get irritated enough to post on forums but I’m just so disappointed with 343 / Microsoft. The performance and overall quality of this website is inexcusable. If it wasn’t ready then they should have persisted with Bungie.Net for another month.

As I mentioned above, I’m a software developer I frankly find the quality of this website (and associated Apps) embarrassing. This isn’t even Beta level quality.

poppin curbs is dead right - we should expect better from Microsoft. Let’s face it, web development doesn’t get much easier. Website, Web services and DB. How can they get it so wrong?

All that said, I feel a little bit guilty as we get these services for ‘free’ but I worry that 343/Microsoft doesn’t value the community as highly as Bungie.

I noted that you commented on performance. Do some parts of the site load slower than others, or is the entire site slow no matter where you are? Do things seem slower on one browser/platform than on another?

Feedback is always valuable. Providing more information may help the web team determine what the biggest problems are, and how to prioritize them.

I’m not sure that Microsoft themselves manage the site; I think 343i may have its own web team, though that’s little more than a guess. :\

As for Microsoft, though, do remember that you’re talking about the company responsible for IE6. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mr. Almighty Software Developer, can we see a site that you have made so we will know what greatness is?
