Is there some way to get access to Halo Waypoint data, either:
- as an export in Excel or Access format, or
- in a format friendly to data scrubbing for use on an external website (like HC used to do)
Is there some way to get access to Halo Waypoint data, either:
I believe HC actually used the API that Bungie provided for Halo 3 & Halo: Reach, which has since stopped updating.
Sadly, I don’t think you can.
HC did use the API from bungie which made working with data simple and let people make some really cool things. 343 didn’t want reach to have an API so that was discontinued, so now if you want data from waypoint you need to do some significantly more annoying “screen scraping”. Though the formatting on waypoint doesn’t often seem very friendly at all.

I think it was more “Bungie doesn’t have to turn over Reach’s API” rather than “343 doesn’t want Reach to have one,” to be fair.
I really hope thing bring one back for Halo 4…

Plus the formatting of the waypoint site is subject to change as always.

We are getting a major overhaul in November with the release of Halo 4. Perhaps then?

Not a major overhaul, just an overhaul.

Eh, I think 343 is about as good a company as Bungie; and if 343 wanted reach to have an API they could’ve made that happen regardless of whatever crazy Reach business requirements might’ve been going on among bungie, microsoft, and 343.
But agreed, definitely would be important to have one for Halo 4.
And about “overhaul” vs. “major overhaul”… that’s silly word choice madness. “Overhaul” tends to have a connotation of being a big thing; “minor overhauls” are not nearly as common as major ones.
