Halo Wars themed DLC idea for Halo Infinite

Hello Spartans,

First and foremost, this is a wishful dream. I think a Halo Wars focused campaign expansion would work perfectly with Halo Infinite’s open world.

The mission would have to take place on an island similar to the anti-aircraft gun island, because this concept is basically a 1v1 match from Halo Wars. Master Chief will be the ‘hero’ unit actually played by the player. If co-op is functional by then, this DLC would also work perfectly too. The antagonist could easily be any of the Halo Wars’ Banished commanders: Shipmaster, Colony, Pavium, Voridos or even YapYap.

FIRST SECTION: The Spirit of Fire crashes onto ZETA halo. Chief reunites with Red team and Captain Cutter.

SECOND SECTION.A: Chief scouts Banished Base similarly to strongholds in the game, but cannot enter yet. Lets player explore the Banished controlled island too.
SECOND SECTION.B: Like Halo Wars’ mini-bases, Chief can destroy the Banished occupants and have it converted into a UNSC mini-base A.K.A the forward operating(FOB) bases. High value targets could be vague banished ‘hero’ units from Halo Wars as well.

THIRD SECTION: Chief returns to Spirit of Fire and they launch an attack on Banished Base.

FOURTH SECTION: Chief enters base and defeats whichever commander with Infinite boss battle style.

FIFTH SECTION: Spirit of Fire secures island and only that island as to not interfere with the other parts of the game.

NEW WEAPONS:

  • Brute Shot Included because ‘Atriox’s chosen’ is a Halo Wars hero unit that uses this specific weapon
  • Spartan Laser Jerome’s weapon of choice, and is also hero specific in Halo Wars.

NEW VEHICLES:

  • Banished Locust able to walk on walls with a shield similar to Mantis’ and fires a larger version of the sentinel beam.
  • UNSC Nightingale can fire a smokescreen as the primary and two drop walls as its secondary. It can be the ‘razorback’ of the skies. Great synergy for co-op.

That’s pretty much what I thought about. One of things I found lacking after playing through the campaign was huge set piece battles. I wish I could include a scarab, but the game does not seem to support huge things like that so the next best thing was its smaller cousin, the locust.

In conclusion, this is some HUGE wishful thinking, but I can tell all of you that a fever dream shared by many Halo Wars fans, including me, wanted a hybrid first-person shooter with real time strategy blended together. Obviously, we cannot have that real time strategy aspect, but I think seeing many of the Halo Wars buildings we played with in the first-person would be close enough to satisfying that dream.

We should all know that the Banished originated from Halo Wars 2, so a campaign expansion would be a brilliant way to appreciate that origin too. Thanks for reading!

A huge set piece battle would be awesome, but I’m curious how the Spirit of Fire’s arrival would connect with the banished occupation. I keep hoping the Spirit of Fire will come in guns blazing and ram a covenant ship head on, Commander Carter style.

I think DLCs are gonna be linked with seasons. So a MK. IV season would be great imo.
I’m EXPECTING every generation of armor to make it into the game, so that is plenty of content for seasons

If the Art of Halo Infinite is anything to go by, the Mark IV is guaranteed and already has a lot of permutations available that can be seen in the variant set images provided in the book.

Maybe a Banished commander arrives the same way Atriox made it off the Ark and the Spirit of Fire find a way to do the same? Isabel then delivers some exposition of why they arrived and need to hunt down the target or some other thing.

If the campaign had armor lockers, why wouldn’t this one? Of course, the cosmetics would be exclusively for the Mark IV core. Might as well throw in Serena and Isabel as AI companions too.

Damn, the dream gets bigger and bigger.

Not quite.
The Pilot and Grenadier Helmets from the Mark V Bravo are technically Mark IV armor pieces.

EDIT -
Also, good news!
The Mark IV also had an ODST Helmet.
Halo Nightfall’s Sedra Colonial Guard wear the Mk.IV ODST Helmets.

I’d just love to finally get some Halo Wars Vehicles into the shooter section of Halo. Sparrowhawk, Gremlin, Grizzly, Vampire, Cobra, Rhino, Locust, Kodiak, there’s so many good ones and they’re all different than what we currently have in the vehicle sandbox.

That’s a great idea.
More vehicles will bring more fun.
As Ferrets merge with SOF, I don’t think it’s completely impossible.
In addition, Dr Anders may have a key role.

I’m confused as to how that is Mark IV? The colonial guard there don’t wear Mjolnir?

ODST started as a MJOLNIR design, before being modified and adopted for regular UNSC Special Forces utility.

Helljumpers existed before Spartans, but when the next models of ODST armor was being developed, it was for Spartan use. ONI approved of some designs being altered in terms of material cost and mass-produced for the ODST forces.

Mark IV as I call it is the “outdated” equipment used by the Sedran Colonial Gaurd
Mark V is the most iconic version of ODST helmets we see
Mark VI is the Halo 2 Anniversary ODST design

Depends on if crosscore comes in to the game, then the MK.IV should come with a few new helmets, unique to the core (crosscore as well)

Which canon are you pulling that from? I thought that since helljumpers existed long before spartans, the ODST armor could have been a precursor to mjolnir but was not a mjolnir design. Could certainly be wrong.

If you read the armor descriptions for the ODST items in Halo 3, Reach, and Halo Infinite; they describe that it was a MJOLNIR asset that was repurposed for use of the ODSTs themselves. (this is also a reference tot he fact that ODSTs were originally what The Master Chief was going to look like before Bungie designed him in the Mark V we know today)

Halo 3 Helmet Description
Many technologies initially developed for Project: MJOLNIR have gained widespread adoption; the use of CTCs for body armor and helmet-integrated neural interfaces being the most visible.

Halo Reach Helmet, Shoulder, and Chest Descriptions
" The ODST helmet is one of the most recognizable faces of the UNSC’s Special Forces. Many technologies initially developed for MJOLNIR have gained widespread adoption."

Halo Infinite Mark V Bravo Helmet Description
Initially developed for use on MJOLNIR powered assault armor, the ODST-pattern of helmet was wide adopted by UNSC special forces, albeit in a cost-reduced form.

Halo Reach Air Assault Helmet
The MJOLNIR/AA variant was developed as an improvement of the venerable ODST helmet. Entered service in 2535; the MJOLNIR/AA variant is exclusive to Army airborne units.

Halo Infinite Air Assault Helmet for the Mark V Bravo
Spartan AIR ASSAULT-class helmets differ at a fundamental technical level from those issued to Army airborne units.

I’m reading this all a bit differently… the ODST armor now integrates Mjolnir technologies, but in-canon ODSTs have existed for 400 years. It’s worth noting that all that lore sort of verges on retcons, its ideas being spun to explain why the ODST helmet is being used in Halo 3 and on. The ODST BDU has existed as it is since at least the Insurrection. There are also in canon images depicting the current ODST helmet as far back as 2526, and the Mark IV AA variant was described as an adaptation of the ODST armor (meaning that it existed before Mark IV/2525.)

I think this is just a gray area of the canon but was kinda fun to look into.

I’m curious about this idea that the ODSTs were originally what chief was going to look like before the Mark V design. I feel like the original concept art looked a bit more like ODST but the first in-canon images of ODST BDUs/helmet were in Halo 2, right?

Thanks for sharing.

I know! 343 has the rights to all these amazing vehicles, but refuses to use most of them. I will give them the benefit of doubt though that some might be too overpowered for the sandbox like the Hawks and Grizzlies. I forgot about the Vampire and a Banished version would look sick.

Could not agree more. My favorite vehicles are the ones that encourage teamwork which is why I dream that the Nightingale gets considered or even the Falcon could come back. It does suck though that vehicles in Infinite go down so easily and the addition of shock weapons doesn’t help them too.

This is an absolute Great Idea.

Having a large UNSC base/fortress that you can upgrade or use as a player hub for Co-Op missions with other players would be perfect.

And you could have wave based missions defending it and the nearby regions from the Banished and it could be eventually expandable. Kinda like that Mode from the most recent Metal Gear Solid game.

And having a large UNSC base could make research and tech trees viable for weapon or vehicle upgrades and would also function kinda like the Ship Bay from Rogue Squadron but with more features.

If we get larger scale environments with more vehicle space like open fields, hills, plains, etc they could be deployed via the Spirit of Fire or a Frigate and make for interesting large scale battles such as against A Banished Shipyard/Dock, Banished Convoys, Banished Scarabs, etc…

Larger spaces + tougher vehicles + stronger or larger Banshee Units.

Battlefield scale gameplay.

Pretty much all of those would be awesome and would work well in larger environments like we saw in the Amazing concept art.

And the tougher vehicles would allow for going up against larger or tougher groups of Banished units which you would need anyway to make Co-Op viable.

Right on the mark

Bungie’s devs decided to recycle the look from their concept art and said “Airborne Special Forces that drop in like meteors rather than feathers.”
