Space battles would be a grate addition to Halo Wars. Players could build space fleets to defend their planets and invade enemy planets. Controlling the space above a planet allows for special weapons when fighting on the ground such as covenant glassing or UNSC MAC attack. Having space battles also makes it were an invasion actually requires pre built units and those under attack will have pre built structures. Space battles will add more strategy to Halo which hopefully make it a better game.
I think if Halo Wars 2 could have a space battle mode somewhat like Star Wars The Old Republic at War it would be awesome.
Star Wars Empires at war had good space battles. Something like that would be cool.
It should be similar to the Sins of the Prophets mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.

I personally think gameplay like Star Wars: Empire at War would work best for this game. Sins doesn’t have ground battles, so its gameplay is entirely structured around space and going from planet to planet in real time and having battles on multiple worlds, but they couldn’t do that with ground battles in the mix. So Empire at War’s formula would work really great with Halo Wars.
Definitely think this is a great idea!
Depends how you create these space battles; control?, how many ships are involved?, how fast should the battles/gameplay be? and so on.
Most important would be the question: more macro or more micro gameplay: you command tons of ships?, or just one or two?
You can build new ones? Or deal with the ressources of your ship(s) - means you can lose ship-systems or ships forever in a battle without having the chance to repair or replace them.
I am not a fan of commanding ships like footies. Please, no mass gameplay here. Commanding one or max. 2-5 ships - but realy COMMANDING them would be great.
There was a Star Trek Game “Star Trek - the Next Generation - A Final Unity” released 1995, that I played not such a long time ago (around 4 minutes), that has a real cool ship vs ship battle gameplay. The game is mostly adventure like with a lot of talking, but in some situations you have a realy balanced tactical ship vs ship combat (at least on hard).
Always funny if the hostile commander is talking to you and thinking he will win, and after one unique corkscrew and one star attack turn later, you could read under the red blinking warbird with lost shields:
- deck 5 penetrated by photon torpedos
- deck 8 penetrated by photon torpedos
- main engines penetrated by photon torpedos.
“The hostile ship has activated their self-destruction”.
A good battle between two ships can become like 40 minutes long, a short one only a few seconds, if you destroy the bridge before the enemies have their shields up.
If it is like more a (space) battleship simulation, were you have to think realy tactical, transfer energy or ppl to the most important systems, repair the most important things for your ship (atm), make decisions, and fly slow and especially tactical attacks - this would be great.
I fear 343 Industries Studios is lacking in two things for this: people, and especially courage.
… today everything has to be controllable very easy, and should be in general very simple - that a monkey can control it - and the winner is the player with the best reflexes. Sad.
Everything that seems a bit more complex will be cut down or out.
(I won’t wonder myself, if Halo Wars 1 and 2 are hold … very simple for RTS, too).

Agreed, it would be awesome. Something along the lines of Star Wars: Empire at War is what I’d like.
Though to be honest I very much doubt it’ll happen.
yes it would add a new dimension of combat to the Halo franchise.
Just think if you had to keep track of debries an asteroid belts, while fighting the Covvies.
At the very least, one space battle.
Yes, space battles should definitely be included and help broaden the Halo Story and spice up the gameplay. (There is more to Halo than just FPS gameplay).
I really like the Star Wars Empire at War model, but it may get difficult since they want to do it for Xbox One as well. In theory, they could keep the base building model of Halo Wars one, and just make it a space station and change building options accordingly. I think the most realistic way is to just have them as a separate game mode and as special campaign missions we get to play.
This idea in my opinion is amazing and I would love to see the epic Halo armadas of both UNSC and Covenant going face to face as you see frigates and super carries shot large cannons at each-other while you have longsword and seraph dogfights. HALO WARS 2 GOODNESS. The only problem is that this could be very hard to accomplish but hell Empire at war did it I don’t see why halo wars 2 cant. They only thing is don’t except it to be at 60FPS. IMO I don’t care about the FPS I just hope there is no Leader Rushing.
I hope really strongly we get this. I think that it would be with 343’s ability, but I fear we may have left it a tad late. I hope it stays down with smaller unit counts, however. And stays tactical - unsc ships have Mac cannons that may unload at long range IF they are facing the right way, covenant ships could be quicker, there could be all sorts of quirks for each faction.
Maybe, but it does seem like a daunting task to create a ground and space RTS game.
But if they do manage to do so and not have it fall on its face, I can see it being a great RTS game that would probably sell well being on pc. I imagine a lot of RTS fans would love a Halo themed RTS on pc.
Okay so, I’d like Empire At War style. Why? it wasn’t overly complicated, it was not so complex it took forever to understand and pull off. Honestly Empire At War is the gameplay system they want to reach a decent audience. I personally love EaW and play them still.
I’m all for it.
I would love to see space battles.

Its not daunting at all i could list a dozen games that implemented both ground and space combat [all rts games]
Thank you all for your comments and I hope you all continue to post. Please help advocate space battles.
Definitely change up the game play for a level or too. I’d be for it.
