Halo Wars Deathmatch

Now before anyone else says it, yes, the community for deathmatch was tiny in comparison to what standard was. That being said, it still produced a high level set of players of much like the standard community. The skillset needed to excel was much different than the skills needed in standard. As such, most high level deathmatch players were not good at standard and vice versa. It seems to be ignored when the discussion of Halo Wars backwards compatibility and Halo Wars 2 come up so I decided to give it some thought. I am simply wondering if anyone will play it once backwards compatibily goes live and will there be a deathmatch in Halo Wars 2?

This is exactly why Deathmatch players weren’t respected like the standard players. If you aren’t good at the core style of gameplay, who really cares? I understand deathmatch wasn’t niche gamemode, but its style caters more to casual players. So again, it wasn’t viewed as being highly competitive like the standard playlists.

Just sayin’.

Most RTS’s always include a deathmatch mode. I would expect to see it again in HW 2.

You have appealed to a general that played against the #1 ranked player in deathmatch for over 5 hours in a tug of war struggle to win. Eventually, I lost but it was the best, most competitive few hours I’ve ever had in a video game. I’ve played video games my whole life and halo wars was my favorite game. I was extatic when I heard they announced hw2. (which I expected from the “ready for sequel” achievement. ) I hope they bring back deathmatch and appeal to a more aggressive playstyle than the casualistic normal. I liked both gametypes but preferred deathmatch by far!

lengthy was what i played for, they were the best! especially when it was a 3v3 and maybe it turned into a 2v2 with constant attacks going back and forth. Though so disappointing when someone left, but in a 2-4 hour game someone is likely to have to go.

I didn’t like it so much if I recall correctly, to much rushing and stuff. I prefer to research it out and play a defensive game.

I like deathmatch personally! Me and my friends would make waves of huge armies and send them at each other such was really fun to see ghost vs flames or warthugs vs grunts was the best thing ever lol

I’m mainly a standard player but I’ve also played deathmatch at a decently high level. I found that it focuses heavily on APM. Extremely macro intensive. That’s about all it is, though. No need to worry about economy or great micro for that matter - just spam the living hell out of wraiths/tanks/bases until you win.
