Halo Wars BTB Mode

I see everyone constantly debating including a Battle Royale in Halo Infinite; and while, yes it has potential to be good, I feel like dev time would be better spent elsewhere.

Imagine a Halo Wars inspired BTB game mode in Infinite. Instead of worrying about economy, unit upgrades, etc. like in traditional Halo Wars, you play as a Spartan leading a fire-team consisting of infantry, ground and aerial vehicles; first side to destroy the enemy base wins. You can have a more in depth version of the mode where you’re able to create multiple bases, or a simpler one where each side just has the single main base.

There could be a firefight version of this mode where a group of players teams up against the Banished AI, or a PVP version where both sides play as UNSC - until they (hopefully) add playable Elites or Brutes. Obviously you can go a lot deeper into the specifics of a mode like this (Do all units start fully upgraded or do they upgrade over time?; What would the AI unit population cap be?; How many players on each side? Etc.)

What do you guys think? Is there a chance the rumored BTB 2.0 is Halo Wars inspired? If not, would you enjoy a separate game mode like this?

I mean… I’m not sure how there’s even a Halo Wars link: the one is RTS and FPS is entirely different.

So you’re basically suggesting Warzone 2.0 more than BTB?

It’s not really like Warzone because there wouldn’t be REQ’s, and each side will have plenty of AI units to reinforce the players (Warzone is just PVP with a few marines at the bases - you also can’t destroy the bases either).

What I’m suggesting is essentially a Halo Wars mode, but the player is controlling a Spartan on the ground as opposed to the entire army from above.

For example, say it’s 20v20, each individual player will have a fireteam that they can direct that consists of infantry, ground or aerial vehicles. So one player might choose to have their fireteam be multiple marine squads; another might go with a squad of hornets, another a mix of warthogs and a scorpion, etc. I guess in the end, it’s sort of like a mix between BTB and Warzone, but this would be a more massive battle than either of them because there will be AI units on both sides.

Edit to add: Obviously everyone would start with marine fireteams, and then as you get kills and build up battle points (like in Star Wars Battlefront 2; similar to Halo 5’s Warzone levels too), you can call in/access vehicles and other higher reinforcements/weaponry.

As I stated in the OP, you can go more in depth with the idea too, such as temporarily crippling the enemy supply/energy production by taking out their supply pads/generators. (So in order to spawn in certain units each individual player would need the required battle points, as well as the entire team itself needing the required supply/energy). Or you could condense the two into one, and each player would have their own individual resource pool that passively increases from base supply pads/generators, and actively increases from kills, assists, and other activities.

I would love to see something like this, both teams have one base and capture base sites for bonuses, it could also have warzones base lock elements of the home base being impenetrable until it’s the final area or you could have a ticket system which would be a copy and paste of the battlefield series. I’ve always wanted to have a.i. marines fight alongside me in big gametypes that or experience them fighting each other over a base. Would be cool to see that or if infinites forge and custom games can be modified Halo then you could make your own idea of it

Agreed. I think it would be the perfect type of large-scale warfare game mode that Halo is missing. I like the idea of controlling outposts locking down the main base too, similar to Warzone. Maybe they could make it where outposts prevent you from getting into the main enemy base to assault the core, but you can still attack the exterior of it for reduced damage; which would leave players multiple ways to play.

I’m imagining the infinite (pun intended) potential of a mode like this haha. Just think of deploying a squad of Kodiak’s (if they’re in the game) near the enemy base, and then scouting ahead while they lay siege to it; or taking a group of snipers up on a ridge to lock down an area, etc.

100% yes. Finally someone on the same page as me. I’ve posted some similar ideas on different threads around the forums.

My idea was pretty close to yours with base and AI management being a big part of it. The only real difference was that those controlling Spartans wouldn’t be responsible for setting up the bases and spawning units. Each team would have a ‘commander’ that handled the match in an RTS fashion by building the bases, spawning weapons and vehicles, and coordinating AI movements. Heck, maybe even give them a super move like glassing or something that takes a long time to charge up.

I think it would be so awesome to request a tank drop or ODST reinforcements from someone who has to decide if that’s really the best use of the team’s overall resources.

Granted, I’m no developer so I’m not even sure if a mode like that would be possible to pull off.

I like your idea about each team having a commander; if the team had a shared resource pool it would certainly encourage teamwork more too.

Yeah there’s just so much they could do with a mode like this, especially in terms of weapon/vehicle drops. I was thinking how cool it would be for ODST drops; say you get ambushed by a Spartan/Marine fireteam and order an ODST drop to assist; an enemy tank arrives so you grab rockets from the drop pod and take cover behind it…

I’m not sure if they’d be able to pull off something like this either, but there’s certainly never been a better time before with regards to hardware. I’m gonna hope for a mode similar to this, but I don’t want to get my hopes up too much.
