Halo wars 3 Cancelled pitch

https://www.artstation.com/artwork/e6mDY

Some really cool concepts / artwork and design for a halo wars 3 pitch, included space battles and customisable warships. I’d love if halo wars 3 did actually have these features.

Also look at the date 2567 and the location [ark orbit, alpha centauri] for potential hints of the game story going forward

This looks awesome. The concept art is gorgeous and does a great job showing off space battles. Thanks for sharing.

Where did you find this?

Not sure if this has to be opened on a computer but I can’t view it on my phone

Same here.

I can’t view it on anything

Link doesn’t work.

If you go to Kotaku and search for Canceled Halo Wars 3 Concept Art it should come up.

Odd that the link went down, well here’s direct links for the differnt images. I wonder if he was told to take it down or if it’s just an error?

Man that looks and sound pretty neat

Might be a stupid question, but how do you know this is cancelled?

Description/title stated it. But then it was renamed to cancelled Halo Wars 2 pitch and then the art got pulled.

Like Bulbaby said it was in the description for the art page

though if it’s been pulled i do hope they end up putting it into a future game, unit customisation is great and ground / fleet battles in a game would be amazing. Even more so the fleet was going to be persistent [so upgrades / customisation would stick through the campaign] which imo would give great incentive not to just spam or waste units like alot of people do.

I just checked the artist’s page here and it looks like he took down the post. The most obvious reason would be that Microsoft had him do it, but in an article I read the artist stated that he got permission to do so. He was actually pleasantly surprised that he was allowed to share it. My guess is that they just wanted to test the waters on the reaction to this HW3 pitch. Hopefully they read the all around great response as a good sign to continue the series at some point.

They better rethink this and pull of something like Empire at War, with space battles and ground battles. I would not be that hard, plus it would add a whole new area of strategy and gameplay. Imagine being able to build all sorts of cruisers and frigates and engage in massive space battles If they were to do it anything like EaW then i would buy it under a second. Anyone else play EaW, and if so do you wish HW 3 would have space battles similar to that.

It’s a feature i’ve wanted since the first wars was announced but ‘it’s not that hard’ is a bit of an understatement of how difficult it would be

You’d need to double the units and structures [at least] and with the persistent element you’d need to take that into account as well as the various upgrades / customisation options for each ship.

Then you have to consider how the two interact with each other and the persistant / customisation options for ground / planetary combat as well. We know already that upgrades for the ships would have been treat as leader powers in the ground side of things but there are probably other ways they would have been done.

So while i totally agree it’s a feature i’d love, to say it wouldn’t be too hard is an understatement of the difficulty of this sort of thing.

A Halo game where I can have my own fleet, UNSC or Covenant? Please fund this, Microsoft! Nice find btw

If It was Microsoft testing the waters and gauging a reaction (though I honestly doubt this theory) then let me just let Microsoft know they should shut up and take my money should they decide to give us space battles.

A huge portion of Halo fiction takes place in space. Some of the most epic and pivotal moments happened from the bridge of a ship. Space combat is LONG and criminally overdo in the Halo Universe. We’ve gotten Long Night of Solace in Reach which, in my opinion, was one of the redeeming qualities of that campaign.

Call of Duty has more space action than Halo does now. Let that sink in for a minute. The modern military shooter, bland as it is, has more time spent in space and witnessing fights up there than we do. We are Halo. We have a galaxy spanning story. Sometimes even further than that. And we STILL only have one mission dedicated to combat in space. Like I said, criminally overdo.

If I seem like I’m taking it personally I may as well be lol. Like so many other Halo fans I’ve wanted to take part in these epic battles thus far we have only been able to read about and experience in our minds.

Even it’s not packaged in the form of Halo Wars 3, space battles need to come to Halo.

I agree here.

Maybe they’ve been cautious of leaving the ground game? It’s a game series that made big headlines by being a superb FPS. Halo Wars is a really great series, but it hasn’t hit the mainstream like their shooters do.

I really like this cancelled pitch because it’s so similar to X-Com. I think that would be a really interesting compromise. If you can retain some of the shooter aspects, but introduce new strategic choices that will affect whole armies and your whole playthrough? and, maybe let you customize some of your own Spartans/marines?
Yes, you have my money.

This is really cool. I think MS is testing the waters to see people’s reactions. The game is really far off and this seems like a PR stunt to see the reaction.
