Im a little confused on a few things. Is this a wired controller or a wireless controller that comes with a cord? Because if it’s really a wired controller, why advertise the fact that it comes with a cord? Seems like that would only be a convenience if it were a wireless controller.

Where are the “onboard audio controls”? Is that the raised platform in between the control pad and right stick?

What’s with the Faceoff thing (seen on the back of the controller)? http://pdp.com/faceoff Does that mean the faceplate comes off?

What do them rolly-looking buttony-things do on the back?

Looks quite cool, although where is the option to buy it in the UK?

Awful cheap 3rd party controller, thanks but no thanks.

Looks like a wired controller (with a detachable USB cable) equipped with a Halo Wars 2-themed faceplate.

I think the audio control is the tab next to the right thumbstick and is used in concert with the D-pad.

As far as I can tell, the wheels on the back are programmable and can be mapped to any button.

No thanks.

I don’t like the design so much… I have to say maybe is good, but it is not my taste. Even if I get a controller would like to be white color to fit with my xbox one s… hehehe

¯_(ツ)_/¯ Third party peripherals aren’t built to last

I’ve never even heard of the brand. I… don’t think that bodes well. It’s weird that the price point is only $5 cheaper than a wireless first party controller.

I’ll wait to get my questions answered by reading reviews before buying for sure. If they’re all answered the way I want I’ll consider it lol.

Well I, for one, quite like the design. It’s a beautiful controller. That being said, I can’t justify being another controller at this point, since I have no need for one.

3rd party…

I really don’t like how it looks. Nothing about it really identifies it as being ‘Halo Wars’. The Banished emblem seems flat and doesn’t stand out. The entire design seems boring, on top of what looks like a cheaper Xbox controller.

I pre-ordered it already. Have to make sure I have every HW2 product.

Wowzers! Glad to hear you’re hyped for the game to come out!

I feel like I would get one just for collection purposes, the design is nice but looks delicate.

Not even a first party controller for a Halo game…

Let me weigh in a little, because the same company released a Titanfall 2 controller that I have that is essentially the same thing.

The controller is wired, and does not support wireless. Pain in the butt for Xbox, because the only port that isn’t around the back is on the side. Totally fine for PC, although if you’re playing a RTS with a controller on PC, I can’t help you. The faceplate does come off - you can replace it with another one if you really desire. The button mapping is pretty customizable. I don’t have mine in front of me since I’m at work, but people seem to like how it operates. It doesn’t seem like that cheap of a controller, and I like how the sticks feel under your thumbs. A few reviews state of some connectivity issues, but that’s not outside the norm for a third party controller.

The TF2 controller is $10 cheaper than the HW2 one and has been for some time - maybe it wasn’t on launch, but it has been since December, so as to why HW2 controller is more expensive, maybe it’s the 5,000 limited release?

Appreciate the insight, thanks for the heads up! I’m a huge TitanFall 2 fan and completely missed that controller lol.

Alright, so mine came today and I’ve played the last few hours of HW2 campaign using it. Here are my thoughts…

It looks pretty cool, and feels good. It’s also great to play HW2 in, only in the fact that you really have to abuse some buttons in that game because of how crappy the control taking can be. What I mean by that is, more than half the time you bring up the “leader power” wheel and try to select a power, it doesn’t take because you have to be really deliberate and hard in your button pressing and directional movements. I’m glad I can have a controller I can be rough with, instead of abusing my poor H5 Locke or MC wireless controller.

As I thought, it is fully wired - the detachable wire simply means it comes off. It can’t work detached. They give you plenty of wire, but probably too much. The faceplate does pop off, but who in their right mind would do that??

Haven’t used the wheels or “onboard audio controls”, as it’s only capable of supporting a 3.5 mm headset and mine is the original one from XB1. You can map buttons to the “wheels” underneath the controller (think Z on N64 or paddles on Xbox Elite), but not sure if that would help or hinder while in a RTS game.

Finally, it’s advertised as being part of a “numbered release” - which is true, but the only place you know your number is on the manual. Unless I’m missing it or it’s underneath the faceplate, it’s not on the actual controller which is really disappointing.

Is it worth $50? Absolutely not. For $10 more you could get a brand new, Microsoft brand wireless controller (or even one of the Halo 5 controllers). This controller is sturdy feeling, and it has a cool design, but there isn’t enough special about it to warrant the cost of a brand new not third party controller. You don’t even get like a blitz pack with it - at $40 it would be a good price.

Thanks for the review.
