I’m not the biggest Halo Wars fan, but I dug the first game and wouldn’t mind trying out the sequel.
Without spoiling the story for me, how interesting is it? And does the game have bots for offline players like in the first game?
If there’s anything else you feel I should know, please let me know.
I will try to be as objective as possible because I absolutely love this game.
The storyline is interesting, to be sure. It is lacking in certain aspects from a storytelling perspective but the Blur cutscenes go above and beyond on selling the story. My one complaint about those is that there are not more of them. I won’t spoil the ending or anything but I liked where it led.
Yes, you can play bots offline and if you’re into taking on the AI, it may be worth picking up the Awakening the Nightmare expansion. Not only do you get a campaign from the Banished perspective, but you also get access to the Terminus Firefight mode, which is a pretty intense survival mode.
Honestly, this game is horribly underrated. I love it. It’s not without its flaws but I think it’s definitely worth picking up.

I’ve seen some brief glimpses of the cutscenes and it certainly looked interesting.
I’m really glad to hear that there’s bots as I was sure that would be the first thing to be removed. I’m not really a DLC guy myself due to not caring too much for digital-only goods, but maybe I’ll wait and see if it ever gets included in a future release of the game as that happens every now-and-then. The DLC - especially the one with Sergeant Johnson - certainly looks quite cool.
Hey, it wouldn’t be a Halo Wars game if people didn’t like it as much as they should.
Halo Wars 2’s campaign is interesting and correlates to Halo 5, but I don’t think you should buy the game just for the campaign. The game does indeed have AI players for offline play; however, the AI quality is lackluster. The legendary AI is like the normal difficulty AI on Halo Wars 1, so I can’t guarantee the matches will be as intense as you are used to.
Despite all this, the game is cheaper than it used to be and might be worth picking up if you have been keeping up with the Halo storyline and want to play through some critical plot points (and see some awesome cut scenes).

As long as I can sort of get the multiplayer experience (or Skirmish, as I believe it’s called) without having to pay the Xbox Live subscription fee, I can settle.

Luckily for you such a version already exists. The definitive edition has all DLC, including all DLC leaders and the ATN expansion.

For real? That’s pretty cool to hear.
And that version has a physical release?

My bad, it’s called the Complete Edition. I don’t know if it has physical copies or not, but if it does I need to get one lol.

I could have sworn that the Halo Wars 2: Complete Edition was only digital unfortunately.

It appears to be digital-only, sadly.
I’m a strong advocate for buying physical media, but if the deal’s right I will buy digital so it is possible that I’ll still one day buy that version.

It does seem to be that way.

I totally disagree! HALO WARS 2 IS A MUST BUY FOR ANY XBOX FAN OR WHO HAS A TINY INTEREST IN HALO!
Halo Wars 2 is one of the best RTS games lately and without doubt the best RTS for consoles. And on the Xbox One X, oh lord, its awesome in 4K & HDR!
If you liked the first I’m sure you’ll like this.
There is a lot of diversity in the different leaders which makes for a lot of fun and different strategies. I personally don’t care about the campaign (haven’t even started ATN) but I will say the cutscenes are beautiful.
I love this game, much more then the first.
