Halo Wars 2 PC Crashing to Desktop In-Game

During games which last more than a few minutes, the game freezes for a second, black screens for a second, and then crashes to desktop. This is not a menu or after game crash, it is an in game crash that occurs intermittently.

This occurs in skirmishes and multiplayer games. I haven’t been able to figure out if its a specific unit or animation causing the crash, though I do play as Banished every game. No error message is displayed and it does not occur every time I play.

I have tried the following:
*downloaded and installed latest Nvidia drivers
*set settings to a minimum, including anti aliasing and particle lights.
*reset windows store cache
*restarted my PC

Here is my rig according to GeForce experience: GeForce GTX 750Ti w/ driver version 378.92, Intel I5 4570 CPU at 3.20GHz, 7.92GB ram, and a 1920 x 1200 monitor at 59 Hz.

I am having similar issues except that the game will run fine and at random times during game play it will crash to desktop with no error message.
My system is is running an amd fx 8350 cpu, Geforce GTX 970, 7.95 gb of ram
I’m just hoping that they start working on making the game a bit more stable on the pc.

Same! The crashing is very random, it may be the result of something specific in the game, I’m pretty sure the driver isn’t the issue, and I’m not experiencing crashes like this in any other game.

I just tested the game with my gpu; during a crash temperatures were still within the safe range, hovering around 70 C.

If anyone has any out of left field suggestions please let me know!

well honestly, I know that the new graphics drivers and over clocking beyond a certain percentage does in fact FORCE a crash in almost all games… I personally haven’t had a single halo wars 2 crash since before the 2 patches ago patch… but I can say that you should reinstall the game or check to make sure your PC isn’t using to many processes to begin with… also make sure your page file is set pretty high incase you have tons of processes or have other possibilities as to why the usage is so high… but id start with reinstalling the game then RE-download the newest graphics driver and go to custom install and select the driver ONLY and click perform a CLEAN installation so it uninstalls its self then reinstalls it and defaults everything then id test it out. also sound drivers have been known to affect the game so make sure those are up to date. go to bottom left of screen then and type in system info and in the find area type in sound and theres the type of sound card/integrated sound hardware and find it in internet explorer or whichever you use.

honestly though its weird I use to have more crashes then ANYONE I ever met on halo wars 2 and onece that patch 2 patches ago came out bam not a SINGLE crash…

My specs are:
Intel Core i7-6850K @4.1 GHZ
32 GB corsair vengeance LED @ 3000MHZ
x3 SSD’s Samsung 850 Pro’s and 1 m.2 WD Black SSD
x2 MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Duke editions running in SLI

I mean I was before running two MSI GeForce gtx 980TI GOLDEN EDITIONS in SLI and there was no crashes either after that patch so I cant say its a graphics card issue…

also check that the resolution your running at IS SUPPORTED and isn’t straining your graphics card too much… id try converting everything down to 1080p if I were you just to make suyre that’s not related issue to you… 1920 by 1200 just sounds a little unsupported for a game like this… if you set it at 1080p then you know FOR SURE its at a supported setting and its not straining the graphics card. im running at 4k but I got a different hardware setup… I just know that resolution is a tricky one because ive seen some games ONLY support HD,2K,4K and leave it at that… so be careful and if you try that then that’s one issue knocked off the list

Thanks for the help, iv recently rebuilt my computer so halo wars 2 is a fresh install, ill try messing with the resolution.
