Halo Wars 2 Needs These Things

When i saw that there was going to be a Halo Wars 2, i jumped out of my chair. I’ve been waiting years for a new and improved Halo Wars. But please include these things in the game…

1: Realistic Colours (UNSC)
No one wants to see Bright red Scorpions or bright orange Spartans… Lets be honest here, there was only a few good colours in the original Halo Wars (Excluding Covenant), Black, Brown and Green. The rest of the colours (Blue, Orange, Red etc.) were just so un-Halo it made the game seem like a Childs drawing. I would love to see colours like Grey, Black, Green and Brown, or any other colour that seems realistic. AND being able to select your own colour… that would be awesome.

2: Improved Base Building
This is something all Halo Wars fans want. A base building system that allows players to build there base however they want, and have a lot more freedom as to where they can build! and being able to build walls, checkpoints and watch towers would make the game so much better.

3: Space Battles
Being able to play as the Spirit of fire, or a covenant ship would be truly amazing. Have players defend the spirit of fire, or have players play as covenant and attack it. Would be an awesome addition to the game.

4: Bigger and Better Maps!
The maps on the original Halo Wars were all pretty much the same, just different textures and colours. I want to see maps where it isn’t symmetrical. Have Mountains, Valleys, Canyons, Oceans, Large forests etc. instead of plain barren land with occasional land masses here and there. Make it realistic and fun!

The colors weren’t terrible, but yeah I get it. I agree on base building and bigger maps and more unique/diverse maps. But unfortunately space battles is not going to happen since CA is following HW1 model.

Colors really aren’t a big deal. I don’t see any problem with it. Space battles would be nice, but CA haven’t given themselves enough time to go out of the way to make something such as that. Same goes for a Flood faction. And non-static bases are a bad idea. I have no I idea how many times I’ve said that. I’m going to have to start counting.

To be fair, you don’t know how long CA has been working on Halo Wars 2. Just because it was announced at GamesCom 2015 doesn’t mean that is exactly when production was started. In fact, it probably indicates that it was already well in the works by that time.

It would be nice if there would be more missions in a longer campaign. Being able to build better, more complex, and better defended bases would be alot of fun and be a better game experience. It would also be nice to be able to replay the campaign maps in skirmish mode, i.e. include the campaign maps in the skirmish map options.

Would like it to be about The Spirit of Fire again and what happened to her crew in the mean time.

add different factions to choose from like the URF, Storm Covenant, prometheans, Brutes, ONI, Flood, Swords of Sanghelios. Option to create your own ground commander like sgt forge. More infantry units like snipers, at troopers, ground commanders, combat engineers, etc. More unsc aircraft (pelican gunships, falcons, condors, albatross), vehicles (mantis, troophog, mongoose(wargoose and gungoose)),

i would love to have space battles

How would you identify your troops if they aren’t color coded? Also they need to make the game friendly to all players (I myself and somewhat colorblind, so I like the brighter colors).

Also in terms of space battles how would that even work? UNSC ships need to hit a Covenant ship 3 times before their shields even deplete. A Covenant cruiser can destroy a USNC ship with one shot.

I never really played HW multiplayers. Dint seem to interest me at the time. But I will for sure play HW2 multiplayer. Obviously campaign also, I always play campaigns…so whatever they have or don’t have in the game I won’t notice lol.

What Halo have you been playing for the past decade? Red and Blue are traditional Halo colors you dolt!

And let’s not forget the long-running series, Red vs. Blue, where the characters use all of the colours including Orange and Pink…

Alright, I am just going to share my thoughts and opinions of your list (in a respectable manner):

  1. Realistic Colors - I don’t have really have a strong opinion of this. The colors never really bothered me, but I mainly played 1v1s. I probably am not the best person to call judgement. My experience with colors on 2v2s and 3v3s didn’t affect me at all. I was never bothered by them, but I do agree with making the game look nicer and more realistic.

  2. Improved Base Building - Unfortunately, I will completely disagree with you on this specific topic. What made Halo Wars so great was this very philosophy. Halo Wars doesn’t need to copy Starcraft or Command and Conquer to be good or successful. You could argue that the Starcraft formula will open many more possibilities, but the game doesn’t have to follow this. You don’t need 300 APM to play a good competitive game (League of Legends). The base building in Halo Wars was unique and gave it its own identity among all the other RTS games. Cutting it out of the next installment would be a huge mistake. Was the base building perfect? No. Should they evolve the base building mechanic while keeping the same formula? Hell yes.

  3. Space Battles - I am all for additional content and features, but this specific one doesn’t feel like it should be included in this game. I feel like this feature does not synergize/cooperate with the original formula and would ultimately take away from the game more than adding to it.

  4. Bigger and Better Maps - Yeah, the maps need to be designed better for a better competitive experience. They should make the maps symmetrical (for fairness in multiplayer) and bigger. I am also not saying they should make the maps boring and technically completely symmetrical. They should change up the different types of terrain, background, and colors of each side of the map. The map layout needs to be same on each side though. They don’t need to make the maps huge but just a size up or two from the maps in Halo Wars.

I am not trying to argue against all your topics. I believe we have two completely polar opposite viewpoints of the game. I come from a competitive multiplayer perspective. I think you come from a more casual and fun approached perspective which I am all for casual and fun aspects of the game. I strongly believe that Creative Assemble needs to build a strong competitive experience within the multiplayer of Halo Wars 2 because that was one of the reasons people have been and are still playing Halo Wars. You brought up some interesting topics.

Well seeing as after Halo Wars 2 was announced CA started looking for people to work on it… I’d say that they had only began planning by the time it was announced.

It’s also possible that Creative Assembly already had these roles filled with people from their current roster, but needed these people to work on other projects full-time as soon as possible. So, they put out job openings to free up those key individuals for other projects. Remember, CA still develops other games and not just Halo Wars 2.

Just speculation, of course.

I was going to take some time and write out a large comment on this but xLegitxReaperx already did it for me. I appreciate that you guys are interested in the success of the game, but adding unnecessary features is not what HW2 needs. Vibrant colors help distinguish player units, NOT every player wants free bases, much of the high level community of the first HW wants them to remain static. Space battles sound like a fantasy that I’m not opposed to but doesn’t sound worth the effort to balance it. Maps don’t need to be any bigger, that takes out some of the strategy. New maps, better balaced maps (no more freaking Terminal Moraine crap) and not bigger. Bigger is not always better.

The colors weren’t that big of a deal to me, but it would be cool to have them more realistic colors. What would be even more cool is if they made a way to sync halo 5 and the new halo wars together to see your spartan on the battlefield from your character in halo 5. Or maybe spartan customization in halo wars 2. Maybe both? Who knows lol
