Halo wars 2 has been out for awhile now and has had a few big updates to the game but nothing notable has been added to the game thus far. so while I wait to see what is done with the game, I would also like to put out a few of my own ideas to what the game needs and what could make it thrive better as a game.
A friend asked me the other day if Halo wars 2 was worth buying and I wanted to say yes but honestly there is nothing that makes the game jump out at you. at the moment I still prefer halo wars 1 but I still want to play 2, so I have taken sometime to think on it and what Halo Wars 2 needs is not more lore but more “Fun” and I quote that from bungie as that was something they liked in their games, Now I am not saying Halo Wars 2 isn’t fun but it has not really grabbed many people and held them for long.
so here is what I think could Help make the game more Fun.

Bigger Multiplayer maps
I don’t mean more space for more bases to go, I mean more spaces to fight in and more places to roam your army through, too many times I am rushed at the start of games by infantry and too many times I have though they shouldn’t be able to run to your base so quickly. The Maps need to be longer. Maybe with future DLC they shouldn’t make the maps tailored to the games lore and maybe make a few maps set on Installation O-1, maybe try and rebuild the second mission of Halo CE in a Halo wars form or something creative. Something fans can relate to which brings me to my next point. -
More Iconic Characters
Now at the moment the leaders to choose from are not particularly special, and I only have the desire to play as Cutter or forge. now I can understand the base characters in the games such as atriox and the shipmaster but the DLC characters shouldn’t be random new characters the player has no relation to, not that there is anything wrong with the character kinsano or the colony but they don’t strike me as interesting, sure playing as a hunter leader is new but why should I care? what about him interests me?
what I as a player would want and do want is characters that I can relate to. for example: have cortana as a leader and her hero be mastercheif, Roland and spartan palmer, Myranda keys and johnson or Buck and the Rookie, all these characters are people I have come to love and know in the story and if they were leaders in the game I would play for hours. 343 have been given this amazing game to work with thats has had amazing characters made by bungie so they should use whats the player has already come to love, maybe they should dive into the books and make Colonel James Ackerson as a leader and have Spartan Kurt as the hero. -
More Interesting maps
now I like the maps Halo Wars 2 has but there could be things in them that make them more memorable. if you watched the Halo wars 1 gameplay trailer and remember the pelicans flying through a Vally to get to a base and when you saw how the was interacted with! don’t tell me you were not wetting your self for the game to come out. sadly after they got rushed, that base structure never came to light and they made the simple base we have now, which kinda bugs me because Halo Wars 2 has the potential to be better but isn’t. so they should make it so that the based you capture come to life on the outside. so you see marines fixing hogs or doing push ups like in the trailer and instead a open base, make the bases inside compounds or old war structures similar to the starting area in the Halo Wars 1 campaign. instead of attacking a base out in the open, you have to raid a compound and destroy a base. well guarded by your opponent, that why you feel like your army is an army and not a bunch of units attacking a base out in the open. -
Stop using the Lore in multiplayer
The final thing I want to talk about is something I have stated already a few times. what I don’t mean by don’t use the lore isn’t “maybe have call of duty people come outta no where” but instead I mean don’t use the campaigns lore in everything. (Story Spoiler Ahead) for example, the spirit of fire is stuck on the ark at the moment and have sent a halo ring off into space to try and make contact with earth, if they only use this as the guild lines for the game then they are setting a small margin for what the game could be. they will go and build the multiplayer around the story and nothing else so every map will end up feeling the same, a jungle or snow map with forerunner structures sticking out the ground. not that these maps are bad but if all the DLC maps end up being the same then the game the multiplayer will get boring and fast as I said with the Iconic leaders, if they make maps that the player can’t relate to in some way, the player will get bored, so make maps set on places like arcadia, reach, installation 01, earth, etc… instead of basing every map on the ark and every leader as a member of the spirit of fire. make it interesting, make it something the player and relate to and most of all make it fun.
