Hmm, Halo Wars 2 has been a great game for me so far and have made me interested in Halo again and it also helps that there is a pc version as I don’t have that Xbox one.
Several factors hold me to this game and I shall list them in no particular order.
Accessibility: I saw a review of the game on YouTube where one of the points were that HW2 was “baby’s first RTS”. I don’t think it was meant negatively, and personally I find it wonderful to “slip into the groove” nicely and enjoy some warfare. And even though I have keyboard at disposal I love using my controller! It’s a pc compatible Xbox controller by the way.
Future Tech and Sci-Fi Tech: The two main opposing forces in the game, Banished and UNSC, provides me with both future-like familiar military hoo-ha and over the top, sci-fi nerd -Yoink- of some alien hardware. The looks of these opponents is very satisfactory, crisp and rugged. And I like, nay, LOVE the upgraded Banished look compared to the Covenant. Generally I find the presentation spot on and full of character, details like the jubilant soldiers arriving at your base when training infantry hits it home.
The “Feel and gameplay”: This knocks my socks off! I like the tools the developers have given me, the rock, scissor and paper of of the unit types, detailed bases that actually show the units arriving unto the battlefield as opposed to just appearing instantly. The feedback, sounds and effects when using your arsenal and leader abilities, those flamethrowers bring the pain and quite the eye candy! Eliminating a blisterback and watching it’s wreck falling down and crashing apart on the ground, oooh yeah! The way artillery sound, feel and work! It’s a privilege and I place this quote: “Though my guards may sleep and my ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that the big guns never tire.”
And finally I’ve been happy with all the DLC so far, new and interesting options for my skirmish games(that I nearly exclusively play). It’s kinda like a mini x-mas waiting for a leader to drop:) I just saw the sun’s rays break through the clouds, time to play a game! Stay safe and have a good weekend!
