Halo Wars 2 "Huge Battles" Playlist?

Hey everyone.

I always read the “Rushing is s***” or “Rushing sucks” threads and the answers with “just learn to play” and so.

So I think it would be cool to have a Playlist “Huge Battles” where people can play, who wants big battles without a rush-shoot-out in the first minutes (what I totally understand).
The Rush players can still play the standard/deathmatch mode and players who just want to have destruction and big battles can play “Huge Battles”

But how does it work?
In generl, you play the normal standard mode but in the middle of the map is a giant shield, which prevents that the one team can come to the other side.

After 10 minutes the shields go down and the wr is going to happen and players can now battle for bases/ressource POI`s in the middle of the map and to destroy the enemy.

Rush players still have their playlist and players who want bigger wars can play that mode.

Personally I think that that is the best way to fix the lil`war between rushers and anti-rushers.

What do you think?

There’s a game mode called strongholds which is basically this, but without the shield. If this were to exist, the shield shouldn’t last for 10 minute, maybe a little less. But aside from that I’d say it’s pretty good

This is an amazing idea! I have always be crushed by the prophet/honor guard rush in the first game and it really sucked. But if that were to be implemented into the game then it will actually feel like halo WARS 2.

Isn’t that essentially what Blitz is going to be? Splurge cards to have massive battles.

great idea OP.

Whatever way they can implement an option like this in the future, it would be great.
I usually just play (HW DE) with friends and we agree to not rush/attack within the first five mns.

With no bases etc. But that for with microtransactions.

I think Blitz would be more a kind of more little battles and guerilla tactics (okay you can still take your whole army to the enemy)

Also I dont think that Blitz mode will be a so sucessfull mode like the normal one.

Nice! Sometimes I do the same with friends too when we have a private match. Let’s hope that there will be a mode like that idea in the near future

Base management is redundant if you’re waiting 10 minutes to do anything regardless. It essentially takes the RT out of RTS.

I know what you mean but I think we will have a high number of people who want a mode like this. Looking to the old Halo Wars days when the top 100 were not using two xboxes to push their rank we had a large number of people who like to wait 7-10 minutes before they go big in the war. I totally understand that.

So yeah we have people like that and not a small number so taking a mode like that would be a good thing

The competitive and casual fanbases of Halo Wars have always been at odds. This could work, but I doubt it would help bring casuals into high level play. Actually, it would do quite the opposite. Thus, the competitive side of the game would die quickly. That’s not good. Surely you can see that?

But what kimd of competetive do we have when good players mostly get a high rank while playing against worse player? Also we dont know how the ranking system will work (the System of Halo 5 is still the biggest Fail)

I don’t have any experience with the Halo 5 ranking system (which is presumably the ranking system that HW 2 will use). That said, if it is competent in any way, shape, or form, it will separate the bad from the mediocre and the mediocre from the good.

In Halo 5 you may play as an silver ranked players against Champions or diamond and onyx players

Then perhaps CA will update it and make improvements. We can hope for that much.

As much as I’m opposed to players who want no rush games, it can’t be denied that a significant percentage of the player base wants games like this. Many StarCraft players play nothing but “Big Game Hunters $$$ No Rush 20min” maps, with high density, infinite resources. You could argue that by giving players what they want it doesn’t damage the community, it enhances it, and removes those players from Playlists where they are constantly punished by aggressive opponents.

That said, Halo Wars and StarCraft are two radically different games. I am, of course, talking about possibilities. So I can’t know if a “no rush” gamemode would be beneficial or malefic. Still, it is a leap of faith to assume that since one game pulled it off that Halo Wars can as well.

Honestly I don’t believe it would be a leap of faith. I’ve played enough RTS games over (many) years to know it’s not about Starcraft or Halo, it’s about the type of players. There’s a significant % of players who like big battles, they’re not interested in winning at all costs, or the nuances of balance, they just want to casually build massive armies and see them fight. It amazes me that RTS titles don’t ship with a noob friendly game mode that supports this type of play because the players have always existed.

Regardless of the type of player, the games matter. That remains true whether you’ve played a hundred RTSs or just one. I’m not against a casual friendly gamemode, I just don’t want to see it go wrong.

Yea we saw many things going wrng with halo since Halo 4 but we have Creative Assembly for Halo Wars 2 so I think it would be good. And if 43 ould say yes to a playlist like that - why not? So let`s hope
