Halo Wars 2 crashes on launch (PC)

Let me start off by saying that I realize this is the wrong place to post this, however, I was provided this link by Microsoft Support and am in dire need of help

I recently purchased Halo Wars 2 and it works fine on my Xbox but crashes almost immediately after launch. I’ve checked my specs, I’ve updated my PC to the latest version, I’ve restarted my pc, I’ve uninstalled the Xbox app, and Microsoft Store app. I really see this as a big issue and need the help. It concerns me the amount of money that I’ve put into the game and that I was provided with the info that I could play it anywhere but so far, this seems to not be the case. Please, if anyone could offer me any solutions or point me towards a certain lead to help me fix this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

What are all your specs?

Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU @2.80GHz 2.81 GHz
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
Windows 10 64-bit OS

Attempting to reinstall the game and I’m starting to regret it. I got lucky to even be able to download it the first time because now, it won’t even download. Feeling extremely discouraged at this point

I’m able to easily uninstall and download the game but the second I launch it it’ll show the “HALO” title screen for less than a second and crash. I’ve also noticed I’m unable to sign into my Xbox Live account on the Halo PC app, two days ago I was able to launch the game on demand and play it without issue. But when I tried to launch it today the problems started. Unfortunately I don’t have a console to play it on so I have absolutely no way to play the game unless the issue is resolved.

My specs are similar to his and are as follows:
Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHz 2.66 GHz
8 GB of RAM
msi Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
Windows 10 Home - 64-Bit OS

OS and drivers are up to date and the GPU was bought 3 days ago the day after I purchased Halo Wars 2 and was able to play it without issue for 2 days before it stopped working.

I’m also experiencing the same launch issues. I recently downloaded Halo Wars 2 (Today) and when I attempted to launch it, the window would open for a split second then close.

My specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Processor 3.51 Ghz
16 GB of RAM
Geforce GTX 770
Windows 10 64-bit OS

I have found a (frustratingly temporary) workaround. It works 100% of the time however only because I have games tied to my account that are not installed on my system.

  1. Open Microsoft Store app and navigate to “My library”. (You do not have to be signed in).
  2. Under the “games” section find a game that is not installed on your system (this assumes you have a game that is not installed on your system. Killer Instinct is my example of choice because it is free).
  3. Click download (You do not have to download the game) navigate to the download section and click on pause, followed by cancel download (or simply cancel).
  4. Close the Store app.
  5. Launch Halo Wars 2 (It should launch)

Dear Microsoft/343i: PLEASE FIX

Didn’t work for me either…

FIX THIS

I found something that worked for me

If you go to settings, Apps & Features, Look for your Halo Wars 2 game and click on it and then select Advanced Options when it loads scroll down and click on Reset.

Then launch your game and it will be windowed but I had no problems setting all my previous setting to the way I had them previously.

If you find the game crashing mid game Launch your game again well its busy loading open task manager go to the details tab and find the game then right click then select Set Priority to low just note that you will need to do this part every time you launch the game.
