Halo wars 2 black screen after first cutscene

cant play the campaign get black screen straight after the first cutscene can still hear the audio but thats it, tested out skirmish thats fine but campaign is unplayable, game doesnt even crash just sits on black screen with audio going, but i dont think it gets past the briefing because none of the controls appears to be working, cant hear it selecting units or doing anything just music after the briefing audio

I get the same black screen during the briefing loading scenes. All I did was wait for the conversation to finish and just pressed the A button on my controller hooked up to my pc. Went into the level no problem. Hope this helps.

I’m having the same issue, While pressing the A button on my controller loaded the level its not a fix.

found out it was the windows hdr setting that was stuffing it so had to turn it off

Can confirm with HDR off it works

Just want to pop in and say, as of 09/28/2020 this is still a issue. Black Loading Screen after cutscene on PC, able to load into the level with a controller, HDR settings on. Turning HDR off is NOT a fix, since rest of the game works perfectly fine with HDR.

I don’t expect this to get fixed any time soon, since HDR always seems to get shafted on PC.

As of 15/04/21 it’s still a problem. Can’t get the game to work past the point just before starting a mission because all you see is black.

As of August 17, 2021, it is still a problem. Thanks guys for figuring this out years ago and making it painless for the rest of us. Well, as painless as possible lol. Cheers.

Thanks for this, I was pulling what little hair I have out trying to get the game to work. It is shameful that a Microsoft game from a Microsoft studio on a Microsoft OS does not work properly until you turn off features that should be handled properly by the game.

How do you disable the hdr settings?

10/31/2021 Still an issue.

23/05/2022 still an issue. Played the game in window and got past the intro. After that played as normal.
