I have played Halo 1 to reach, and I’ve always been a decent player, with Halo 5, I feel like it’s a total new game, so I need some advice for some of the newer stuff (Eg; REQs, Leveling Up, Unlocks Such as Campaign Commendations that reward in-game items, ect)
Just asking for advice for Halo 5, anything is welcome.
Welcome to the community Spartan. Best advice I would give, is don’t get discouraged. There is a steep learning curve to this game. Try out all the different playlist until you find one you like, don’t forget the custom games. To get the maximum REQ points, I would suggest WZFF, and SWAT. There are people that would argue this point, but you have to find what is right for you. Happy Haloing!!
There is no Armor or anything for doing campaign achievements. You just the satisfaction of accomplishment. Like McFlucknuckles said, just play the games and see which you prefer. Personally I like regular WarZone. If you just want to kill Covenant/Prometheans play WarZone FireFight. If your of the competitive nature there’s Arena ranked games and social.
First the req system… I won’t get into it’s pros and cons, (Video explaining the req system) but all you really need to know is about the packs. You have bronze, silver and gold. Every thing you unlock is essentially in the packs. Bronze the lowest level doesn’t guarantee any unlocks and has lower level weapons/vehicles. Open some bronze packs since you are just starting out some unlocks are in them. But when you stop getting unlocks especially if you spent 5000 RP and didnt get two unlocks start with the silver packs. These guarantee two unlocks and have higher level stuff. Open them until you get two 1500 point req cards instead of unlocks, then move on to golds. They will refund two 3000 point cards when completed. The pack grind is extremely long and tidious and pretty un-rewarding. Now there are ways to get free packs as well, daily win packs, completing commendations packs, daily log in packs… And Halo HCS is this weekend make sure to follow the code thread or watch the event and enter the codes at Halo.gg. most finish the pack grind at around SR145 or 147.
As far as getting good at the game you picked a bad time really. Most playing the game now are the die hard fans so most of them time you will probably be getting stomped. H5 takes a long time to get used to. Also don’t be afraid to mess with your look and aim sensitivities. You really do have to adjust them to your play style.
For the sake of your mental health, you can’t go into H5 with high personal goals (high CSR, 5+ average KDA, etc.) as a casual. Halo 5 is tryhard’s territory. You have to not give a single -Yoink- about performance or you can go on a skill grind, highly recommend the latter.
Now onto more technical tips.
Open your silver packs first. This will give you all the customization items from common to rare. Stop opening them and go to gold packs when they begin to refund you with REQ points. Going silver to gold is the fastest and most cost effective way to complete the REQ system. - Clamber is your best friend. Use it to go on more hidden positions. Clamber is a near prerequisite for a victory on maps like Plaza and Rig, so I’d recommend going in a map solo on customs and climbing around. Even if it doesn’t look traversable, try Clamber on it. It might surprise you. - Remember that in H5, you’ve been given a super soldier that can do more than just walk and jump. In addition to Clamber, use things like the aim stabilization to get better angles on your opponents. Height advantage is very real in H5. - With Spartan Abilities, you’ve also been given a nuclear weapon on your grenade holster. The frag nuke is ridiculously powerful, and is best used when trying to draw opponents out of tight cover. Nade spam is a mean -Yoink- in H5’s tight arena maps, use it to your advantage. - The Magnum is your go-to every single time. Don’t pick up a BR or Carbine in Arena. Magnum, always. - The one time to divert from a Magnum is in close areas. H5 players often overestimate their Magnum, making them ripe for a surprise attack with an AR. Remember that this only works in CQB. - Like previously stated, H5 is tryhard’s territory. The best way to beat those mother-Yoinkers- is to beat them at their own game. Use Theater to find out how a veteran or tryhard kept managing to kill you, and steal their tactic. - H5 is a team game. Never go it alone, and help your teammates out whenever possible. Of course, if they’re getting slaughtered, then back up a little. - In Warzone, choose REQ’s that are right for the situation. Loadouts should be decided by your play style. - Sprint conservatively. Oversprinting is the number one killer of H5 noobs. - Learn to use the advanced movement to get around faster on the map. It’s a lifesaver. - Camping is a death sentence. Grenades and flanking will get you.
I would strongly advise finding a playlist or mode or whatever that you love and sticking to it. Branching out is fine, but I’d have at least one spot where I can go to and just kick back and play (for me it’s Super Fiesta and OG Warzone). If, for whatever reason, you don’t get much enjoyment out of it, try something else. That’s pretty much all I got to say.
Oh, and don’t be surprised if you match a lot of tryhards. This is a tryhard game, like it or not. You learn to tune it out over time, but just expect them to be everywhere outside of the obvious (forge).
I was in the same boat as you. Played CE-Reach and left before H4. It takes time to get used to things, but i’d say start by playing warzone assault to practice the controls (a lot different thanks to the new mickey mouse abilities) and once you get a feel for them, play on the “quickplay” playlist which is kind of like social slayer back in the day (but not social at all, its still very sweaty.)
Once you’re ready, try out ranked.
Regarding Req’s, if you want a lot of points (say you want to purchase a pack to get new customisation etc) play warzone firefight. Heroic or legendary are both fine, but mythic is VERY difficult.
For leveling up, the playlists that give the most XP per game is Warzone and Infection for Arena. The playlists with a gold star next to them are featured and will give out double XP.
If you decide to play Firefight, use vehicles during the later rounds.
Hey, ChosenOne1972!
You should use the Silver Pack tactic:
It’s were you only buy silver packs until they start not giving you permanent unlocks. - Then move on to Gold Packs. - This is a very effective Tactic to help complete the Req system quicker.

Strongly disagree, I get good servers often.
Do you by chance live in a country known for bad H5 servers? (I.e. Australia)

I get bad servers about 40% of the time on a good day, but I usually play at odd hours and get thrown on South American servers a lot.

Huh. I’m always on Mexican or American servers. They’re usually pretty decent.

Why are you here and I would say if that person did it wait for halo 6 and the reviews other wise try to learn all the controls and try to play it with friends and you should probably mess around in forge it’s a bit complicated but it gives you a chance to get a feel for the weapon sand box and how things work ( ps truok003 you should explain first your reasoning seriously don’t just say something without backing it up)

True. The Late Night Gaming clone shouldn’t be on the H5 forums if he doesn’t even like it.
Play the Campaign with a friend, it’s a bit more fun to do that with this game. You’ll have to hand off the controller every now and again, but oh well.
Well, everyone has given you great advice about Halo 5 but it ultimately still is up to you and what you want from the game so like I always say “NEVER GIVE UP” !!! So have fun.
