Hello everyone! As you can see i’m here to ask for some help. I’ve been with Halo since the beginning. I’m having a lot more trouble with Halo 5 than usual. I’ve have never been bad at Halo and consider myself a above average player. For being a casual gamer I can do pretty well usually. In Halo reach and 3 was when i peaked at Halo the most. I always had a nice 2.0+ K/D on both games. I had no trouble getting high sprees and helping me team along the way. However in this game I feel like i’m letting my team down 70% of the time. Disregard K/D because i was just setting an idea of where I stand as a player. My real goal is to do well but also help my team. For me personally if my team loses i pretty much say it’s my fault especially if I did bad because well I usually never do THAT bad. I have games where i’m going 7 kills and 12 deaths. Thats not so good to me and my standards from past Halo games where much higher. I’ve been practicing a lot. I just can;t get a feel for it though. The mechanics are so different, the gameplay speed feels weird, I end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, and generally just end up in some wack situation where i’m totally screwed. I can’t snipe like I did in reach, move like I used it, or just do anything right. I’ve watched YouTube vids on tips and tricks, played countless games, studied the maps on customs games, and still…nothing works. I just don’t seem to be improving. I feel like it’s an entirely different game i’m playing. Any ideas?
Edit: Also most of my friends have left due to it being so hard. So I’m basically alone now. None of my friends or class mates play anymore. So If anyone’s willing to play let me know. So i guess this may have affected me too. I’m a bit sad I got no one lol
Might just be your reflexes dulling. Sad as it is as you get older you start to loose some of that snap-second reflex ability you had.
Nothing to do for that other than change your diet drastically.
I would recommend tinkering with the new aiming settings they just released in the update if you are having issues with your aim. Look acceleration, inner dead zone, and outer dead zone were just added.

I mean i’m only 20 though. I’m physically active in Motocross, other sports, and havea pretty good diet. Halo 3 was like 12-15ish and Reach was 16-19ish lol. I ain’t that old!
I struggled in the beginning as well, learn the spawns in each map to not get screwed over, and work on your aim and you’ll do fine but yes sniping is weird in this game compared to others. But what Orca said is true sad to say in Halo 5 who ever shoots the other one first wins the fight unless you can’t aim which most people can do Platinum +.

Then you might want to look into the settings Shadow Tobuscus mentioned. I changed a few of those around myself and radically improved my “skill”.
Of course its also a relativly new game. Your skill will slowly rise as you get used to it.

Same as all other Halo’s pretty much sensitivity 4 and Bumper Jumper (At first). I recently changed back to default to compare and I feel like with all the extra stuff going on default made it easier. Especially for the aiming.

Same suggestion here. I ended up going with the Fish control scheme because it’s what I’ve gotten used to from other games (namely destiny), but you may want to look at the various schemes and decide what works best for your gameplay style, rather than just what you’re used to. For example, if you’re very CQC, then I’d suggest melee on bumper or right thumbstick.

Can I get your settings and try them out? I’ve never had to mess with dead zones in my life lol.

Set your deadzones to zero and if you have no stick drift and no slow turn leave them if you get them then increase incrementally. I set mine to zero thanks to someones advice and it works wonders. Look acceleration however i am not too sure myself.

Yeah I get what you mean but I’ve never really needed to do that for this long before. On Reach I started pulling frenzies after the first week. I feel like i’m in Halo 3 again but I was just a kid back then. So it took me a bit longer.
The aiming in this game is very different and the unfortunate part is that settings for my controller wont necessarily work for yours. I would do what others have said and start at zero and increment till there is no drift. When I was watching the Video of the stream last week StrongSide had his sensitivity to 5 and look acceleration to 2 which may help you, but honestly everyone is different so it’s very difficult to help in this sort of situation.
Also I’m 20 as well and the best advice would be trying to get used to the game with spawns, weapons, maps, etc. I’m doing fairly well right now with just the default settings, but I’ll have to tinker with them once the update is finished here
I was in the same boat as you, but I am now I’m better than ever. It takes getting used to, but once it clicks, you are just going to get better and better. It’s areliably the best competitive halo experiences I’ve had.
Aim is the main thing thing that could be throwing you off. The lack of aim assist makes it very hard at first. You need to use your left stick to aim as well as the right. Right stick to get your reticle near your target, left for more precise adjustments. It should be a 50-50 split between the two sticks, most people don’t know that. Sensitivity is specific to the player, but 3 or 4 should be about right for most people. No need to go faster, the ability to turn very quick is really not worth it if your aim accuracy goes down even by a 5%.
The quicker pace of H5 means that you also need to get a hang of positioning again. It’s different than previous halos, which were much more forgiving when you wandered into the wrong areas. Now, a small positioning error can get you killed very fast. The small maps don’t help.
These where the two things that I had to readjust before I got as good as I used to be. You can add me if you’d like someone to play with, I’m in the same situation with everyone else giving up. It seems that we should be about the same skill level once you adjust to this game.
I have a fairly big group I play with sometimes, but I’m always up for playing as well. We can even hit customs and just mess about so you can get used to the maps.

I am an aggressive player and you know what. That fish stick setting is what i might just be looking for!

I reccomend forgetting that youre playing a Halo game. Thats what i had to do. Play it almost like CoD. Automatics are OP so use them in CC. Stay next to a teamate as often as possible. Use your thrusters intelligently. Check walkways and sightlines AT LEAST three times before moving, because people can get from one side of a map to another in no time.
