Halo used to be a man's game

As someone in the Marines, I couldn’t care less about the stuff you’re talking about here. Don’t speak for us bro.

The campaign doesn’t include the problems you have like the “frilly flowers,” and I’m quite content with such silly things in multiplayer.

You obviously have never been in the military if you aren’t aware how -Yoink!- and “frilly” we can be outside of a serious situation. Multiplayer is meant to be a fun place, nothing more.

I literally watch anime like Madoka Magicka, and I know plenty of other Marines that watch similar anime. Sometimes it’s nice to FORGET you’re in the military and just have some fun.

This thread was made by an obvious civilian. Go to bootcamp and you’ll see some of the most non-straight and least manly things you’ve ever seen in your life, in a joking context. Literally had a guy helicoptering his junk in the rain room splashing water on everyone. While you’re at it, run with your rifle using one-hand and see how well your DIs think about that.

I know a Marine who is a drag queen and wears heels and other women’s clothing on his liberty time. I guarantee he’s more of a “man” than you are.

No one cares about this “manly” stuff dude lol

If I want to play a game in a serious setting and use military style tactics, I’d play something like Squad, Insurgency, or R6, and even R6 has flashy and “frilly” skins for certain weapons.

I very much like the Cherry Blossom armor effects, and since I’m in Japan at the moment, it would feel very appropriate for me to snag them.

Racist? Now your way out line . I already said that the items themselves is not something I’m against. The cosmetics don’t bother me. It’s the fact that it doesn’t fit the game is what bothers me. How many examples of cowboy space movie do I have to give in order for you to understand that?

I literally said that any event can happen in boot camp maybe if you read what wrote you wouldn’t make such an ignorant comment.

My point was that a basic war theme or basic military theme does not have these things. Look at any game that came out that same time Halo did. All the call of dutys. All the war games. You may had the silliest emblems and maybe the some funny nameplates and assinaitions in other games but there was nothing like flower petals coming from your feet

It’s pretty clear that yet again. You have not understood anything because you refuse you read anything

I guess riding a unicorn through multiplayer would also be for “fun” too. I guess riding a pirate ship in the campagin would be “fun” as well.

If you dress to impress other players then you’re missing the point of customisation entirely.

What? I’m asking for an option to NOT see cosmetics. I’m not dressing to impress anyone. In fact I barely care about skins.

PMS still clanning in halo?
You can usually tell how popular a game is by the amount of women playing…

A lot of girls and women didn’t play much back then at least in my experience. Not that they should be excluded but there is definitely a lot more women playing video games now than before. If anything video games used to be a nerd thing that got made fun of.
Again. Not that that’s right. But times were definitely different back then

I will happily kick your butt with my Spartan that is wearing Cat-Ears, a teddy on the chestplate, and an angry kitten for my armor icon.

(honestly, I wish the cat ears were a universal attachment across Armor cores. Imagine wearing the EVA Carved helmet with Cat Ears or the Yokai helmet with Cat Ears?)

I honestly don’t mind. All power to you. I just feel like there should be some wiggle room to enjoy the game how you want. I shouldn’t have to see effects and what not every game I play. A little is fine but at some point it gets too much and I end up just checking out.

Ahh, we’re cherry-picking, huh? The same game that had the lightning cloud also had an aura of winged hearts and the Grunt Birthday Party effect. Hearts and flowers for emblems, and the aforementioned pink armor scheme.

This edgy sexism ain’t it, my guy. Especially when you offer the weak reasoning of "That was different! You could pick that color if you wanted, now it’s a BUNDLE!" as though anything forces you to buy that bundle.

Again. I don’t mind these things.however I think there is to much of it.

Nothing to do with sexism.

Everything to do with sexism when you pitch it as “It used to be a man’s game” “It’s a serious military game” etc, etc.

As for the racism claim that I saw you balk at a little ways back, at the very least it’s cultural insensitivity. The current event is one steeped in Japanese culture, of which cherry blossoms play a prominent role. So it’s a little more than “girly flowers”.

It’s a nod to when the game used to be more masculine. And a masculine atospehre isn’t a bad thing. In the military it’s a masculine atospehre. You don’t see anything feminine. It doesn’t matter if you prank your Sargent with a dress on, it’s still a serious place that’s often dominated by a masculine atmosphere.

As for it being japanese culture. I could care less what it stands for. It’s still frilly. It’s still brightly colored. I’ve already said multiple times that I’m fine with the items themselves and I n fact want people to have their way that they want to play but IN MY OPINOIN I think it’s too much and it’s going to far.

Definitely not racist. Definitely not sexsist. If you want to get mad at the title then go ahead but I’ve clearly explained myself in multiple ways

So… sexism.

I’m sure you mean combat is a masculine atmosphere. A deeper discussion there on gendered perceptions for various actions and situations. But no, in the military there are plenty of feminine presences. I mean, you do realize that women serve, right? But more importantly, before delving too far down that rabbit hole, this is a video game, and Multiplayer is not a space comparable to the USDF.

Cultural ignorance. “Clearly explaining it” seems to only be digging the hole deeper.

How is masculine atmospheres sexism? It’s the military. Since when has their been a dominate feminine atospehre? Halo is based on the military.

It’s like battlefield V with the whole women and mechanical arm thing. It’s not that it’s bad within itself. It just doesn’t fit. Not logical or based on realism.

Not saying Halo should be all realistic but it should be based on realistic tones like the military being mostly serious

Again. I’ve said this. There CAN be feminine things in the military and women DO serve. But its not the domanite atmosphere.

Again. Just because it suppose to represent something doesn’t mean it doesn’t look feminine. In my opinion it does. This OPINOIN is in no way against what Japanese culture is. Why? Because in real life flower petals don’t just appear from your feet in Japan. There are cherry blossom trees and pink petals fall off from them but that’s as far as it goes. Adding a cherry blossom tree in a new multiplayer map would’ve been the proper representation of pink flower petals in halo.

It’s your insistence that the military (guess what Halo Multiplayer isn’t?) is a Masculine Dominated No Girls Allowed zone.

Neither do flames or storm clouds appear around your head. But you sure didn’t have a problem with those things…

Just stop while you’re still marginally above ground, dude.

Halo is BASED off the military. Not modeled after it. In the military there IS women. I already stated this… masculine AND feminine atmospheres can exsist in the same place. Never have I implied that there was “no girls allowed”. Just because I feel it’s no longer a man’s game, doesn’t mean that I thought that it wasn’t a women’s game. The entire argument from the beginning was about balance. And the level of something over the other. Hence why you see above that I’m ok with sillyness HOWEVER I feel that it’s too much. I feel that it’s swinging to far in the other direction. Maybe the word feminine isn’t a strong word to describe the new update but my point is clear. I think it’s to much. I don’t think it’s bad or that it shouldn’t exsist. I just simply think it’s to much.

Again. I repeated my self many many times now that I don’t like the effects at all. I don’t mind if other players have SOME. I feel it’s to much in terms of what I look at in the game. When every other player has different effects and the more that comes it looks less and less Halo to me.

I could have sworn Halo was a pre-teen’s game judging by how many of them were online saying the N word.

So Firefly and a bunch of other shows, movies, games and books are not sci-fi I guess.

I’ll give the OP this. Halo games are a “mans game” since it’s target demographic is largely male and the tone and themes of the game are catered to traditionally male rolls especially during post 9/11 America. This is not to say that women cannot, do not, or should not play Halo or be part of the military. I think we can all agree that the “action” genres are targeted towards men and the “Romance Comedy” genre is targeted towards women.

Dude has a million takes that are bad. This one is not one of them.

Maybe. I heard many things from all age groups back then.

Thank you. This is exactly what I mean. It’s like shoenen anime. It’s markted towards males mostly. Not to say that women can’t read it or watch it
It’s that it leans into a tone or atmosphere that’s masculine or what males would prefer typically and broadly
