Oh boy I’m having to come back into this thread again?
Basically what she is trying to get across is that you not wanting to see how other people want to present themselves, calling it out as being overly feminine or cutesy/Fortnite-esque, is just being intolerant.
Taking the stance of “I don’t care how you look, I just don’t want to see it.” Is equally bad, if not worse.
Then you should edit the posts title to not be inherently sexist tbh. Something about Halo being serious instead of super goofy rather than something feeding into dying gender stereotypes would have supported your points a lot better and kept the conversation on the topic you we’re trying to have. Friendly reminder that words and phrasing matter a lot!
I’m mainly a BTB player, and since H3 it’s basically been 1/4 - 1/3 of all players in a match wearing katanas, ninja heads, and flaming skulls. It got even worse with Reach and the hearts and GBP skull effect coming into MP. (I also enjoy ranked and 4v4 social a lot, but I play BTB more than anything).
Imo wacky and non-serious cosmetics have been in Halo MP in a high volume since H3. And I honestly don’t find the volume of goofy stuff in Infinite I see to be any higher than goofy cosmetics in MCC
So just because I think it’s over the top that it’s intolerant? What?
Even people that didn’t agree with me aditmited that there is a line in which it completely wouldn’t be Halo anymore. Some people think that line is at a different place. I don’t see how the level of cute stuff is what makes something intalarable. Esspically when I said I was ok with some of it. It’s not like I’m against the items themselves.
Are you referring to the reply above where the person said I was mad?
Because where else did I say I didn’t care. And didn’t care specifically about what?
I already said I’m not going to let people call me racist sexist . This isnt about my opinion anymore. I agree that my title and intial explanation should be better but I’m not going to let people talk me down either
I don’t know what this means or where you were when CE came out, but going to LAN parties for Halo was never some “hyper masculine” thing; I distinctly remember everyone universally in school and other social circles criticizing it as something nerdy. Something “not masculine.”
It’s a nerdy series for nerdy people. I don’t think saying it’s “a man’s game” is even remotely accurate.
The sentiment of this threads origin is pretty clear, anyone complaining about ‘women always played halo’ or anything is just virtue signaling. You’ve made your point Volt!
To anyone that doesn’t understand, he’s sick of the unimmersive shop items and misses the gritty militaristic undertones of the original games. That’s it. Quit looking into ‘man’s game’, it’s literally an idiom. Or something like an idiom, idk its a figure of speech.
I think Halo is based on the military. The military is inherently masculine at its basics and core esspically at the time the older Halos came out. That’s where my argument comes from. I wouldn’t say it’s hyper masculine either and I even pointed out the nerd thing above
Thank you. They take it as some mystical hidden jab at women when it’s not. It’s a very simple straight forward point that was coupled with a title that was ment to be a joke of the situation. The video is even in meme format. But I have to explain in depth why I’m not against women for some reason. A man’s game can be a women’s game. Never said it couldn’t.
The only thing military about CE was that there was a military in CE. The entire game is a giant basket of Biblical analogy and mythology. It explores more themes on religion than it does with exploring anything military related.
You just said: “Halo is based on military” then “military is inherently masculine” and finally “I wouldn’t say it’s hyper masculine.” Man you’re waffling hard.
Nah everyone in this thread knows exactly what that clickbait title was for. If he was really worried about immersion, the title would have been “Halo used to be an immersive game.” Immersion isn’t some masculine trait. Immersion isn’t some quality that only “a man’s game” has.
Give me a break.
We all know exactly why you used that title. Unless you’re brand new to the internet, you knew you were kicking a hornet’s nest for the sole purpose of getting clicks. Then afterward when everyone came in to call you out, you threw your hands up and were like “but guuuuuuuuuys I never said anything about women! I’m just talking about immersion!”
The first thing you complained about in this thread was the presence of “flower petals and frilly things” in the game. Don’t even pretend you didn’t know what you were doing.
Uh, look at your highly overreactive and caustic response. It’s pretty clear lmao
also,
that’s pretty sexist of you bro
inb4 “i didn’t mean it like that”
Is it so hard to believe a person misses the gritty-ness of the original halos, without accusing them for being a a women hater? Tolerant people, we got here
That response was caustic? I felt I was pretty tame. Now if you want to see caustic…
Are you actually stupid? I am struggling to figure out how the hamster-on-a-wheel in your head managed to make this leap. I said that I was a dude, therefor implying I’m not the target of OP’s stupid “Halo is a man’s game” title. Hence, how would I feel attacked.
Here’s another bit of “caustic” for you. I literally have no idea what you’re trying to say because your post is so stupid.
When the guy posts “Halo used to be a man’s game” and then immediately complains about flowers and “frilly” things, I start to get suspicious. But then in this very thread:
He complained about wearing hot pink armor. He implied that misogyny didn’t exist in “his days.” He said “I don’t like PC culture.” To make a point he said this would be like “an all feminine game where it’s all about doll houses and things of the like. And then one day they started adding army men dlc to the game.” (lol you don’t think he’s specifically saying the additions to halo aren’t feminine and that he doesn’t like them?).
Like you are ‘just so attacked right now’, that ‘you can’t even’ am I right? Because he doesn’t like the silly flower on the helmet in his typically gritty military space shooter?
Don’t you feel silly? Calling me stupid over this?
Infact, getting upset at there being a flower attachment for your military issued helmet (OP), and then getting upset at the guy for being a mysogynist because you think flowers are girly(YOU), and YOU think that hating flowers on helmets is an attack on women, well that also sounds a bit sexist to me!
Yeah and do you know what that means or why it’s used? People certainly don’t use it to say something is “immersive.” They say it because they want to say “this thing is dominated by men and has little interest to women.” You can look up historical context after historical context to confirm this. A quick google search of “a man’s game” isn’t going to bring up “hurr durr but mah immersion,” it’s going to bring up an antiquated mindset.
Also it’s hilarious that you brought up the very quora post that says:
“Very often, it means that something is dominated by men, especially a profession or field of expertise. In the 1920s, banking was a man’s game. This means the highest positions in banks belonged to men, and only men were regarded as potential bank presidents.”
“People used to make assumptions that women didn’t enjoy certain kinds of sports, especially ones that were violent or rough. Back in 1960, someone might have said “boxing is a man’s game,” meaning that men are the ones who train to be boxers, not women. A man who was perceived as weak or effeminate might be told that “boxing is a man’s game” as a way of saying “this is too rough for you, you won’t like it,” or to insinuate that he isn’t man enough to participate. This is associated with macho posturing.”
“In either of these cases, the idea that only men are in charge or should like certain things is old-fashioned…”
Did you even read what you linked? Hahahahaha
Oh here we go. Instead of engaging with my points/examples directly, we’ve gone right to the memes. It starts with “can’t even,” what will you jump to next?
When has Halo EVER been gritty? Comically flailing grunts, children laughing with confetti whenever you get headshots, an elite grabbing a characters butt during an explosion, over Biblical mythology, I could go on…
WAIT HOLD ON. You just said that associating traditionally feminine things with women is sexist, right? You did that just now to try and call me sexist, right? So if I were to say that dolls and whatnot are traditionally feminine, like the flowers, you’d call me sexist… RIGHT?
