Halo Update: INFINITE INQUIRIES

> QUESTIONS ABOUT GRAPHICS AND VISUALS
> First, we want to acknowledge that yes, we’ve heard the feedback coming from parts of the community regarding the visuals in the Halo Infinite campaign demo. While we see and hear far more positive than negative, we do want to share a bit more context. From our perspective, there are two key areas being debated around the community – overall art style and visual fidelity.
> Based on our learnings from Halo 4, Halo 5, and Halo Wars 2 – along with strong community feedback – we decided to shift back towards the legacy aesthetics that defined the original trilogy. With Halo Infinite, we’re returning to a more ‘classic’ art style which was a key message going back to the very first reveal that garnered enthusiastic and positive responses. This translates to a more vibrant palette, “cleaner” models and objects with less “noise”, though it doesn’t mean less detail. While we appreciate this may not be everyone’s personal preference, we stand by this decision and are happy to see it resonating with so many fans around the world.
> The second theme being discussed involves visual fidelity. Negative feedback in this area includes comments around characters and objects appearing flat, simplistic and plastic-like, lighting feeling dull and flat, and object pop-in. We’ve read your comments, we’ve seen the homemade examples of retouched content, and yes we’ve heard the Digital Foundry assessments. In many ways we are in agreement here – we do have work to do to address some of these areas and raise the level of fidelity and overall presentation for the final game. The build used to run the campaign demo was work-in-progress from several weeks ago with a variety of graphical elements and game systems still being finished and polished. While some of the feedback was expected and speaks to areas already in progress, other aspects of the feedback have brought new opportunities and considerations to light that the team is taking very seriously and working to assess. We don’t have firm answers or outcomes to share yet but the team is working as quickly as possible on plans to address some of the feedback around detail, clarity, and overall fidelity. The team is committed and focused on making sure we have a beautiful world for players to explore when we launch.

Well at least they acknowledged the graphical issues.

Hmm, not sure how i feel about that lol

> but the classic Magnum and Tactical Shotgun aren’t currently featured in Halo Infinite.

This confirms that the gameplay build was a fairly recent build. Only a few weeks old.

So all those people saying the gameplay build was an old build from January this year were wrong.

This game has no chance to be drastically improved before launch date.

Proceeds to take out two of the series’s most iconic weapons in favour of some lame redesigns

343 honestly just can’t leave well enough alone. You’d think they learned their lesson after the backlash about removing the SPNKR rocket launcher. Part of me just thinks they remove fan favourite aspects of the series in favour of their own lame redesigns out of some weird inferiority complex.

“Hey look guys, our designs are just as cool, right?”.

Plus there’s no Halo CE style blood splatter from enemies.

I’m convinced this is 343’s last Halo game. People made excuses for them time and time again (“demo was months ago” etc.). They are in the spotlight as the flagship title for Series X and given a new survey has come out saying 84% of UK gamers prefer PS5 to Series X, mistakes have clearly been made and this could cost Xbox everything.

Xbox Series X seems pointless without next gen games to fully utilize the hardware.

Rather just get a PS5 or stay with PC gaming.

Plus games like Cyberpunk 2077 are releasing around the same time as Halo: Infinite. Rather play that now.

I really thought for a second there wouldn’t be any community backlash necessary to get those I C O N I C designs.

H2A was an updated classic look and it looked great, I don’t get how they ended up with Megabloks graphics for Infinite. Good lord this is bad.

It honestly should be. If this game sucks then 343 needs to get reassigned to making AA games that are not Halo related. Give them something they can actually handle, because right now it just looks like they’re in way over their head with this franchise.

I’ve seen indie games on Steam that look better. Current gen ones lol.

It could be improved… depends on how hard/fast the devs work. I was able to change a bare landscape to thick with detail, vegetation, and better lighting in two months on one of my games… but then again mine was much simpler than a AAA game. Since we also don’t have a release date yet, they may have more or less time.

Personally, I’d be willing to wait a tiny bit longer to improve. But, if it still releases and has some patches later, I’d still buy and play it but be very disappointed that they couldn’t get it good the first time. The way MCC is now is the way it should have launched, and the quality that Infinite needs to launch at to retain/gain players.

WAIT, is Halo Infinite multiplayer FREE TO PLAY?

(you will have to scroll down)

Could be fake tho.

If 343 proves incompetent, then maybe it is time for Microsoft to call up Soon Studios (creators of Installation 01 go check it out). Some people at 343 have passion for Halo, some see it as just another job. Soon Studios is all passion, since none of them are being paid to make their game.

If 343 screws this one up and hurts the sales of Series X drastically because they couldn’t live up to the task, Microsoft isn’t going to have much of a choice in regards to 343.
Truly, this is 343s last chance. I really am hopeful that they succeed, especially since we’ve waited 5 years for this.

Oof. Can’t imagine they were excited about having to write that.

Visuals are one of the easier (not saying simple, just easier) things to fix in a game. I would not be surprised if we see dramatic improvement. You can see with the DOOM 2016 and Gears 5 trailers compared to release how impressive those changes are. It is possible.

They mentioned that they saw “far more positive then negative”.

Do they even internet? Majority is negative towards the current state of the graphics. They are picking and choosing narrative.

WEEKS old? Oh man…well, I mean…at least they finally confirmed it instead of the speculative January-old build. At this point, at least make Craig into an Easter egg. The “Regret. Regret. Regret” meme I absolutely just lost it; I found it so hilarious I was crying.

I’m still cautiously optimistic about this game. I know I’ve given 343 a hard time, but I must admit they seem to be trying. As long as they fix some existing bugs in MCC and HW2, continue giving us regular updates, and listening to our feedback I’m still a bit hopeful. Although, I was a bit disappointed that the build was weeks old, not months old like everyone assumed.

It’s best not to listen to rumors or outside speculation, it’ll only make things worse. We’ll all get through this. Together.

Honestly the more I look at it the more the environment looks like a Heroscape map to me. The giant gray hexagon pillars look exactly like the castle walls expansion for that game here’s a vid of a Heroscape map as an example https://youtu.be/QQKXfGNo5w4, I’m super tempted to open my Arbiter and Chief H3 Heroclix figures and make some custom characters for it now lol.

MS should get the rights to Heroscape and have 343 make a video game for that, they’ve pretty much got the aesthetic down.
