Can anybody tell me why they changed the UNSC Logo?
Because they wanted I guess.
They changed it? If so, then it’s because Halo 4 is set 3 years into the future. Many leaders were swapped a bit, so it’s no surprise.
Because the old one was lame. What’s your problem with it?

Which doesn’t explain why the new symbol is on the Forward Unto Dawn. I guess 343i likes to retcon everything.

It’s called “Art Direction”. They changed it a bit because they’re wanted to. Personally I don’t find anything bad with those changes. Saying the oblivious “It was different in FUD” is just hair splitting.

Or a retcon. And it isn’t hair splitting to remark that the new logo is on the FuD, it is a fact and canonically wrong.
For the sake of change?

It’s not a retcon, though. The fact that it is on the Dawn is likely an oversight, or has to do with asset management. The classic UNSC logo is featured in Halo 4 (though I cannot remember where at the moment. I’ll get back in regards to that).
It’s pretty annoying that they changed established visuals TBH, Like it’s one thing for the unsc to have a new symbol, but its another to just say no this is now what it always looked like.
Does it really matter tough?

The number of retcons coming from a company that says they love and respect the lore is eyebrow raising.

No more than with Bungie before. Again though, in the case of the UNSC logo, it’s not a retcon. You can see the classic UNSC logo in Halo 4 on the Dominion terminals (where you go to capture a territory). There are 4 small screens on this terminal, and you can see the original UNSC logo on it.

I don’t know about that. I know people brought up Chief’s gauntlets and the Arbiter’s mandibles. I know the Jackal is a popular argument, but going from Halo 2 to Reach, they have a pretty general design and yet it is drastically altered in Halo 4. Do you remember a quote from the 5.9.12 Bulletin about the Grunts?
“As for how the Grunts of past Halo games and Halo 4 compare: Are they different species, a result of natural mutation, selective breeding, or genetic mutation within a single species? We’re not ready to show our cards here just yet.”
They never said anything later on. They talked about evolution on Earth and other worlds, but yet again left it up in the air saying there would be answers. That was a year ago.

Well, I guess I was thinking overall fiction instead of just game-wise.
As for the Grunt issues, I’m hoping the Halo 4 Essential Visual Guide will shed some light on what 343 said.

10-to-1, it will likely be written off as “sub-species”. I don’t have a problem with that, but it will make me wonder why this one sub-species just happens to be paling around with Jul’s group. Then that will make me wonder why the main-line Grunts were with the main Covenant. I just think things can just be consistent.

If only, my friend.

You seem like a smart individual (not even joking). Why do you waste your time with such small and insignificant details about a game? It’s all open to discussion I guess but I think you could be doing something better with your time. I’m not trying to come off as a -Yoink-.
