I get UE4 fatal crash popup, the game is actually running fine in the background and i can even start a game, but to get rid of the box i select ok and then the game locks up and crashes out, tried new drivers, old drivers, reinstalled game and OS still the same.
reinstalled easy anti cheat and still the same
tried with windows 10 and 11 same thing.
see in event viewer the following

I have now fixed the issue
I took ownership of bcryptPrimitives.dll under the system32 folder, it was owned by trusted installer, added myself as a user with full permissions, restarted pc and now halo mcc working fine so far.

I can confirm after several games and several reloads of the game to test all is working as it should.
So I completely uninstalled Halo MCC and reinstalled, I was able to play 3 games then it crashed again. I’m using game pass.
Hey man, could you please provide more info on your solution? I am having literally the exact same problem
open C:\Windows\System32 folder
search for bcryptPrimitives.dll
right click file and select security tab
select advanced
select change next to owner
select advanced then select find now
search for you user id in the list and select it
the click ok, then ok and close the properties box.
go back into the advanced section of the security tab again
then select add, same again find your user id and select it and click ok, tick all the boxes and then ok out of the the dialogue boxes
restart pc and then try

if worried about changing the file create a restore point first, open start and type restore, then select create a restore point
I tried this, and unfortunately didn’t work for me.
open event viewer after halo crash and check the logs under windows logs - application and check which file is causing the issue
Always the same:
Faulting application path: D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\MCC\Binaries\Win64\MCC-Win64-Shipping.exe
Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcryptPrimitives.dll
the fix I did is still working so not sure why not for anyone else. wish Microsoft and 343 would stop breaking windows and games.
That’s a…really odd solution. But if it works, it works.
To anyone still having issues, try starting the game up with the Anti-cheat disabled, make sure you are signed in, see if you can load the campaigns and custom multiplayer maps okay, then exit and try again with EAC enabled.
Most random weirdest solution ever. I gave this a go and it works. The UE4 error came out of the blue randomly during a matchmaking game and I was unable to launch the game since. Changing the permissions for bcryptprimitives.dll to allow full cotrol for my user login fixed the problem. Thank you, mate.
