Hey everyone, vVvDARK WOLFvVv here! Ok, so you all saw the Halo trailer at the E3 media briefing, and I am sure I am not alone in thinking it was destiny up to a certain point. But I am going to give my speculation as to why he was REALLY wearing the cloak.
Ok, first off, as we all know, the Spartan-II’s Mk-VI armor is designed to protect the wearer from the elements, vacuums, and pressures of our universe, and keep him at an acceptable body temperature, as well as protecting us from many bullets. So why is he wearing the cloak? you may ask, well here is my theory.
At first when I saw just his arm and the cortana chip i was like “yup chief, but why the cloak?” then I saw his helmet, and the HUGE cracks in the visor, and after wondering what could have caused this, I came to a semi-logical conclusion based on that.
HE DOESN’T HAVE ALL OF HIS ARMOR.
As I am sure people are aware, when you go into the desert it is wiser to wear many layers so you can regulate you body heat of 98.6 as well as protecting yourself from the grainy sand.
the ONLY reason that chief would need this is if he didn’t have all of his armor there to protect him and keep him cool in the seemingly harsh sands of the desert he is treading.
> Probably not to draw attention to himself, in real life it acted as a build up and added suspense
yeah i am aware, but considering all that he has been through, it wouldnt be far off from possible, AND he did get discovered by that… thing… which people are speculating as a… Forerunner War Sphinx?
Well, my assumtion is that he’s probably separated from the UNSC to tackle some forerunner stuff alone, cos he’s cool that way. He’d need his suit obviously to achieve that, but if he goes to a planet in his big green shining suit of armour and just starts walking amongst the civilians, well, he’s going to draw attention to himself, which I’m sure he doesn’t want. So yeah, that’s why he has that cool poncho.
> > The colour of the cloak probably stands out a lot less on the desert than a shade of dark green.
>
> but he was, seemingly, discovered anyways, why wear a cloak when technology of forerunners can EASILY detect other technology?
Stop overanalysing it, it’s just for damatic setup.

Like i said, it was just my speculation based on what little we saw, my biggest clues were the GIGANTIC CRACKS in his visor.

Yeah but he did walk pretty close to it before that metal bird thing exploded out of the ground. It would be harder to spot him from a distance and at a glance you probably wouldn’t notice him.
Really the only reason Chief had a cloak was becuase he doesn’t want to be spotted. He, as an SII, would be so much better off without all of his armor then having only partial on.
The area that chief was at, could easily been seen from space by UNSC ships, with him always wearing his signature Mark VI upgraded armor thats green, he’s easy to spot especially in that type of enivornment. *Though, from what I remember about cryptum, he could be under a forunner structure that reflects light or soemthing. The area he was in was just like the same place that Riser, the Human, Bornstellar and the Didact were at when Bornstellar awakened the Didact from his Cryptum.

well I apologize for having imagination. and I truly am sorry for exploring the possibilities.

The only thing you did what to negate the possibility of it being camuflage. You didn’t say anything in terms of the reason he’s wearing it, so no imagination involved in your previous comment.
> The cloak was to surprise people, I think…
>
> And I know half of this place is gonna hate me for saying this but… I freaking want that cloak as part o armor customization.
Be a step up from juns cloak in reach which i adored since it fit the sniper/stealth guy look I was going for
