The Halo franchise has been around for some time now, almost 20 years (even longer if you are reading this in the future). As such, SO MUCH LORE that has come out during that time coming in the form of the Games we have come to know, the many books, graphic novels published by Dark Horse and some by Marvel, tv shorts and animated shorts as well.
Within the various pieces of media many discrepancies and inconsistencies have popped up from time to time, while some of those issues get answers eventually; while many do not ever get resolved. I propose that 343 along with ‘lore masters’ should come together and create some kind of ultimate lore and visually guild; similar to the 2011 and 2013 visually guilds (expect way bigger and more dives into the lore more and fixes the many issues). I though of a name that could work such as “Halo: The Ultimate Encyclopedia Guide”.
The book would help correct some of the problems in the lore and would give definitive dates for events and objects. A few objects that I feel could use a bit of a definitive date on the timeline would be…
. A proper serves date for the Mjolnir Mark V-VI:
The issue I have with Mjolnir is more so with the Mark V when it comes down to dates. It is stated that the Mark V was entered into serves on November 24th 2551 with development staring in 2542, with it being replayed by the Mark VI only one year later in October 2552. To me that just doesn’t make scene, why would you release the Mark V so late and for it only to be replayed by the Mark VI only a year later. I propose the serves dates for the main Mjolnir Armors be as followed…
-Mjolnir Mark IV- Entered Serves in November 27th 2525 (just as before) and would receive final production upgrade in 2535 (just as before). The armor would be continuously upgraded though out its lifetime with newer advancements in technology just as before.
-Mjolnir Mark V- WOULD now enter serves in November 24th 2542, seven years after the final production upgrade to the Mark IV and would receive final production upgrade on November 24th 2551. Just like the Mark IV, The armor would be continuously upgraded though out its lifetime with newer advancements in technology.
-Mjolnir Mark VI-Entered Serves in October 2552 (just as before). Mark VI wouldn’t really need to change much if not at all to helped be fixed. Maybe if the war went on longer the Mark VI would have been issued a few more years down the line, but I digress.
. A proper UNSC energy shield date
.The issue I have with UNSC energy shield technology come down to a few factors. It is stated that the UNSC and ONI develop energy shield technology by reverse-engineering a Kig-Yars’ (Jackals’) point defense gauntlet (the shield they carry around); which allowed the development of the Mjolnir Mark IV Grenadier, the first energy shield equip Mjolnir armor over a decade later. Even though as early of 2531 energy shields were seen much earlier (I.E. Red Team and the other Spartans in Halo Wars 1). I propose the serves dates for energy shield and the armor be…
-The Mark IV Grenadier would enter serves some time in 2529, as that seems like a fair and realistic time frame it would take to reverse engineer from the start of the War in February 2525 (I know the Mjolnir clad Spartans weren’t deployed until a few months later till July, just bare with me), to four years later for the deployment of the Grenadier (which itself was a prototype testbed for Energy Shield Technology). I also feel Energy shields would be adopted into the mainline armor at least in either 2530 or early 2531 (what ever you think is best). This is more so to help explain and help canonize why in Halo Wars 1 why Red Team (Jerome-092, Douglas-042, Alice-130, & Omega Team) have energy shields in Early 2531.
. Explanations for some of the late dates for some Covenant Weapons and Vehicles
. For those you do not know, Covenant Weapons and vehicles are given designation numbers based on what year they were first encountered as well as a name to help identify it by members of ONI and the UNSC, due to/not knowing if the Covenant name them. Such examples of this are the ‘Type-25 Plasma Rifle’, the ‘25’ meaning what year it was first encountered (so 2525, year zero of the war) and ‘Plasma Rifle’ the name given to it by a member(s) of the UNSC. Same goes vehicles, such as the ‘Type-26 Wraith’, 26 for the year; and the name ‘Wraith’ being given it by UNSC/ONI members. Sounds like a pretty simple system, until you look at some of the vehicles and weapons that are encountered way later than the first five years of the war, with some vehicles and weapons being encountered within the final year few years (and sometimes months of the war. One example of this is the ‘Type-51 Carbine’, and the ‘Type-52 Prowler’.
The problem I have isn’t the vehicle or weapons themselves it the relatively late date they are first encountered especially when you consider the to Covenants beliefs. It was seen as wrong in the Higher arcs eyes to experiment or develop new forms of technologies that would deviate from their ‘Forerunner Gods’ work. As such, Covenant technology hasn’t really changed much if not at all in many centuries; as the Covenants natures is ‘imitative rather than innovative’, feeding off of reverse-engineered forerunner leftovers. Once they first hit a level of satisfactory, they keep it as that; as such, Covenants weapon and vehicles have not change one bit in many centuries (bare with me I’m getting to the point). So, the question I’m trying to propose is…‘why are some Covenant weapons and vehicles encountered so late in the war, some within the last two years of the war, if they are well over multiple centuries old by that point?’ It would make plenty of sense if the UNSC encountered all (if not most of) the weapons and vehicles within at least the first five years of the war.
(I know this is a lengthy post, but I’m almost done)
. Since this is the ‘Ultimate Encyclopedia Guide Books’, the book would also include information about various Charters, species, weapons, vehicles, starships, planets, and much more. Giving detailed descriptions of all objects, many having illustration to boot (you know…like how an Encyclopedia would). I also feel their would be a hefty page count as well as a high price tag (and a overall large dimensional sizing). The book would release after 'Halo Infinite’s launch date (perhaps a few months or a year after).
The ‘Halo: Ultimate Encyclopedia Guide’ would be the culmination of decades of storytelling tales of conflicts and war across the Milky Way Galaxy. From the days of the Forerunner-Floor War to the Events of Zeta Halo in 2560. Only time can tell, until you step inside.
Thank you so much for ready this all the way through, I work a long time on this post just so I could share it. Please tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions or anything please let me know.
-Thank you!
