Halo The Masterchief Actually Depresses Me

Be warned, I’m having a bit of a rant, but if you have frustrations you may get some release in empathy with what i am saying… So I’m in my mid 30’s and work a high stress job. I like playing video games to relax and was looking forward to this release for many months. For some reason my first two games on day 1 loaded flawlessly, and I was like a little child at Christmas. Newly revamped Ascension (remember Tower of Power?), and Midship (Remember Rockets or Ball?), two of my very favorites, but since then the overall effect of playing Halo had been to stress me out and significantly worsen my mood every time I turn it on. Thank you Microsoft and 343.

Firstly the matchmaking. I’m ignorant of how this stuff works, and that is the way I like it. But for Christ’s sake how could someone screw this up so badly? It has to be the most epic fail in the history of gaming. There will not be many people out there who love Halo as much as I do, or spent more time playing it over a decade. Yet I am a few weeks away from going back to Titanfall, never playing Halo again and telling everyone I know not to bother getting it. MICROSOFT. How many customers are you losing day by day if someone as passionate as me is thinking of permanently leaving my mistress of 15 years? You should be very ashamed and if a -Yoink- up this big was in any other industry jobs would be lost, and rightfully so. Why why why you bunch of incompetent morons can you not even make sure the teams are even? How hard can that be? It worked in all other Halo games, and currently works for all other games out there. If you changed something or did something differently then why? Didn’t work did it? Battlefield supports 1000s more players and loads consistently in 50 seconds every time. Grrrrr. People in charge need replacing with someone that knows what they are doing, and don’t think it is OK to take the piss out of many thousands of excited paying customers!

Secondly. BR BR BR BR, No Feckin Way An objective game, but look, all the BR Headshot monkeys just quit so it’s 3 on 2, excitement turns to despair. Objective lovers endure your repetitive tedium BR on Shrine, or worse Warlock that isn’t even suited to BRs, over and over again so why not put up with some CTF once in a while? PLEASE Microsoft get an objective playlist or stop sad sacks quitting. For those that also like games that don’t involve shooting with a scope across the map. Halo used to be a game where running in Assault Rifle blazing, or dual wielding SMGs, was part of the game. It involved a different yet equally, if not more, impressive skill. Not this camping bollocks aimed at a sporn point that happens now, it just makers it COD with alien helmets on. And before a torrent of abuse that it’s because I’m rubbish, hell I’m not what I was but there was a time when I was very good, MVP every time, but sadly growing up means those kind of hours can’t be put in. There’s still plenty of skill to wielding a low calibre weapon in a tight space, and far more impressive watching your mate take out all the opposition with an assault rifle and a bunch of grenades than watching BR sniping of dots on the screen.

Thirdly and finally… How many potential levels can we play? Why then do we basically just get the same five or six, with the emphasis on Shrine? I’ve not seen half of them even as a voting option yet. Anyway enough ranting. SHAME ON YOU MICROSOFT DIRECTORS, TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SHODDY POORLY PLANNED AND POORLY EXECUTED.

By the way - I wrote ALL except this bit whilst waiting for BTB to load. Eventually got my first Regicide on Complex, awesome. Or not, teams divided 7 on 3. Point made nicely. Here endeth the rant.

i agree with the BR bit, i want SWAT back and i think when that happens alot of these 'headshot monkeys like me will switch to it

this game offers so many options that they weill be swamped with letters like this for ages.
too many titles, maps, gametypes to have such a limited playlist.

hopefully they get it fixed soon, because my H5 purchase hinges on their dedication to making this right. I have purchased EVERY(console) Halo title at launch including HCE, and I kind of feel a little heartbroken that I may be walking away from a franchise I have so many fond memories of

I still dont know why people are hinging their decision to buy Halo 5 on the success of MCC. They are really completely separate entities. 343/MS screwed up the MCC launch, no doubt about it. But they have made significant strides in correcting it so clearly they are committed to “Making it right”. I think all the problems with it have nothing to do with 343’s skill as a company, but the fact that the project was so incredibly complicated and definitely rushed out the door to try to sell consoles for the holiday season. I would bet that decision was some microsoft exec who thinks that saying, “Just make it happen.” is a legitimate way to get something done, not 343 itself.

I have all the confidence in the world that Halo 5 will come out as a pretty polished product, as evidenced by the fact that they are holding the beta almost a year in advance. That will give them plenty of time to correct issues and even make some wholesale changes if they want to.
