The Human-Covenant War has raged on for nearly twenty seven years, and as time pushes on, so does the Covenant War Machine. By early 2552, Humanity has lost all but its most precious inner colonies. The death toll counts billions as world after world falls, the UNSC’s once-plentiful stockpile for resources has nearly been depleted, and overall… We’ve got nowhere to run, but everything to hide.
As if the Covenant wasn’t bad enough, the Insurrection seems to think that it’s the UNSC is at fault that the war continues. Like we haven’t done anything to attempt a treaty with the Covenant. Like we didn’t try opening up trade and establishing some kind of peace with the Covenant when we established first contact.
Ask the citizens of Harvest how our attempts at peace went. Ask the inhabitants of Eridanus II how willing the Covenant were to listen to their pleas. Ask anyone from Jericho VII about how rational they are. Ask a man from Resolnare to tell you how remorseful the Covenant are about wiping out their home.
You can’t. The dead don’t speak. Stand in the ashes of a thousand worlds and find the gall to say the UNSC did nothing to help them.
In the wake of Operation: SHOWSTOPPER II and all its glory, the UNSC was greatly weakened. An Insurrectionist Cell calling itself the “Human League” saw this as a prime opportunity to prove that and set a plan in motion to launch an all-out assault on ONI’s SWORD Base in the Northern hemisphere of Reach. The attack only lasted a short while, having been repelled with the help of Orbital assets and Naval air support, but left serious implications about the UNSC’s situation.
With the revelation that the attack was staged with the help of sleeper agents, the Office of Naval Intelligence purged any and all other inside agents from its ranks, and Admiral Margaret Parangosky appointed a unit from ONI Section III, BETA-5 Division’s Asymmetrical Action Group to hunt down the Insurrectionist Cell responsible for the attack and wipe them out.
Oxide Company was nearly completely wiped out during the events of Operation: SHOWSTOPPER II. However, the unit that spearheaded the Op, Oxide 5-9, survived the assault on Hotel Papa-- A Covenant-held world used as a staging ground for sending fleets into UNSC space-- and was believed to have been one of the key targets in the Insurgent attack. Now, Oxide 5-9 has been charged with destroying the Human League.
Though the unit has been declared “KIA” officially to avoid being tracked, a substantial amount of its members have been lost during recent events. That is where you, the recipient of this message, come into play.
If you are reading this, then you may be qualified for a mission that few would qualify for… A mission few will survive.
It’s a play-by-post Halo RP, meaning everything is written out. It started in late 2550, though we’ve progressed all the way to January of 2552 at the moment. It’s called “Halo: The Helljumpers,” for the reason that it seems. While most RPs seem to focus almost solely on the activities of the SPARTAN-II supersoldiers, or sometimes SPARTAN-IIIs-- Or God forbid, the IVs or fictional Vs-- we do not.
We play a squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers operating under ONI, Section III, BETA-5 Division’s AAG. Our adventures right now are obviously all mostly made up, but in the future we’ll experience famous battles such as the Fall of Reach, the battles on the Alpha and Delta Halos, the Ark… And possibly beyond.
We’ve got a fairly large group, standing in at nine individual, active squad members at the moment (Fifteen characters currently exist, but I’m counting actual players involved), but we’re looking to expand for multiple reasons.
-
While it’s a fair amount of players, it’s not quite enough. Sometimes, things have to be rushed for the sake of getting moving again. Sometimes people wait for other people or some other such thing, so a kick is necessary at times. More players reduces the chances of this happening, and allows for some new life to be breathed into it.
-
Inactivity isn’t generally tolerated. Players are given ample time to post, usually either a week or two, but sometimes people disappear for weeks or months on end… At this point, characters are forfeited. We then use these characters as redshirts. Yes, we kill off people who don’t play. We lost three out of twelve people during the mission before our last, and a staggering eight out of sixteen for the one before that. It’s usually the newbies who don’t last, either because real life gets in the way or because they lose interest in the Halo universe.

Illiteracy. Some people consider themselves to be great RPers, and others think they’re total crap. It usually ends up being that the opposite is true. All of our current members, save maybe one forgivable case, are very much literate, and generally pretty skilled at RPing. If you want to get an idea of how literate you need to be, just ask. Either through PM, or right here. I’ll send you an example-- Either from myself, or one of the other members on the site. Expect to have to write around eight paragraphs a post, usually more.

Downright stupidity. If the guy on the comm tells you not to blow up the barn because there’s something vital to the mission (And planned story progression) in it, then obviously you don’t blow up the barn. In one case, I had to delete a post and tell the guy not to blow up the building three times before he got it right. He died the next mission and got banned. Common sense is necessary.
I know that all sounds like whining and negatives, but I have to get those out of the way now. If you don’t think you can keep up or write multiple paragraphs on average, turn back now. If, on the other hand, you know you’re really good, consider giving it a try. We’ve actually got beginner RPers around, but they’re good.
If you are interested, go ahead and either send me a PM or post below. Try to include some kind of RP example of your own to give me an idea. Can be from anywhere, really, or you can just write one up on the fly. Ultimately your choice. And of course, you can ask any questions you’ve got, just post them below. No reason not to.
Apart from that, one more thing . The RP is not on this site. I don’t know that it’s against the rules to recruit for RPs off-site, but it didn’t say so in the rules, so. The site is based on a message board hosted by ProBoards. If you’re familiar with it, great. If not, I suggest looking it up.
That said, post any questions you have. Hopefully I’ll see you all on the front.
