Halo Technology (UNSC)

Alright so, I want to take time and discuss, and possibly theorize how some of the technology works in the halo universe. This topic will be the first about the UNSC technology and what makes it; Iconic, Useful, Inventive, and Impressive.

This is not about the weapons only, this is about the Human weapons, ships, vehicles, social technology (civilian use) and all sorts of augmentations and armors the marines, ODSTs and Spartans received. So, lets get to it!

As a long long long long long time Sci Fi lover, I love ships! From Star Wars to Halo, I was amazed with the ship design of it all and I specifically love the UNSC frigates.

Most classes of frigate range from 500 meters to 600 meters at very most. Paris class frigates are the largest, being around 556 meters if I am not mistaken. To put that in perspective, Master chief is about 1 meter tall, so it’d take 556 spartan IIs to cover the length of the Paris class frigate, and this is one of the smallest ships in Halo lore!

The weaponry is nothing to sneeze at as well. Armed with several high caliber anti-air craft cannons long it’s sides, it also has a complement of Archer missile pods for medium range assault, and the main gun being a Mass Accelerator cannon or MAC. This bad boy can fire slugs of dense metal into almost anything faster than you can blink! In the Book, Fall of Reach, it said how many MACs can two shot covenant shielding, then fire Archer missiles to cause massive damage to a covenant hull. This is a devastating tactic and one I love to hear about all the time!

I also love space tactics, the stories of a few UNSC ships out classing an out numbered foe. sure they probably lose, but they go down fighting and take a few with them! That’s pretty awesome if you ask me.

So yeah, share your favorite piece of UNSC tech here! It can be anything!

Honestly, it’s a small thing but I absolutely love how practically designed most human starships appear in the Haloverse. They’re boxy, compact, able to take a beating, and look like they’re designed to maximize damage output while minimizing a fore-to-aft portfolio for clean dodges.

It also seems to fit a very human doctrine. Because humans are consistently portrayed as a very diverse species in most Sci-fi, especially when compared to very trait-heavy races (I.E. the Krogan/Brutes of Mass Effect/Halo known for their blood rages, brutish tenacity, and primitiveness, Sangheili being blinded by honour, duty, etc. and so forth), it’s nice to see human technology reflect what is often considered humanity’s biggest consistent trait: they’re practical and technical if nothing else.

Absolutely beautiful! I loved the designs, so nostalgic to see a Charon class light frigate over Old Mombasa!

If you’re talking about the In Amber Clad, she’s a Stalwart-class light Frigate.

That’s right, Forward unto dawn was the Charon, my bad.

“Master Chief stands about 7 feet tall (2.13m)” Halopedia
By your logic MC is the height of a grunt.

Has there been any canon detailing how human inter-star system communications work? We’ve seen people converse in real time while at other ends of the galaxy, despite the fact our slipspace capabilities are supposed to be primitive and prone to error.

I believe Kilo-5 Trilogy covers this, whenever Serin Osman communicates with Big Maggie.

Also, Comm Buoys are mentioned throughout the series.

I can’t remember every fine detail off the top of my head. Like I’m going to remember the exact day that New Constantinople was glassed.

in mass effect they used quantum entanglement as an excuse, halo is probably similar.

from my understanding with quantum entanglement a sub atomic particle can be synched to another sub atomic particle(some believe it is the same particle in two places at the same time, science is fun) by this means a communication system could be built with synched particles, one at unsc command another onboard infinity. By stimulating one particle in a sort of Morris code it will instantly be transported to it’s twin particle light years away. This violates Einstein’s relativity so they are still trying to figure out how.

although Einstein’s curved space expanded on Newton this no doubt will eventually expand on reletivity.

> This technology would have to be very new to the Halo universe. If I recall from Ghosts of Onyx, communication between solar systems was done virtually entirely by star ship, the only exceptions being the relays on Earth, Reach (the only two locations in public knowledge) and at least one other classified location. This apparently works by sending a “ball” containing data through slip space to a location, which would then receive it. I figured the communication between the Infinity and the Earth was due to some newly discovered Forerunner tech, but it now appears there’s a kind of internet spanning UNSC space.
> It’s been years since I read GoO, so I may be remembering incorrectly. I also can’t remember which year this takes place.

Instant communication has been around a while in the Halovers, apparently. In the Fall of Reach, Keyes in 2552 is having a real-time skype chat with an Admiral, I believe, who’s in another system.
