Grenades are not toys. Throwing them randomly is stupid. Yeah, you might have a 1 in 20 chance of getting that Hail Marry… but most of the time the person on the receiving end is going to see it coming and dodge or you are going to hit your own teammates… Also… M9s HURT when you hit someone with them… And I’m not talking about the explosion… If you bounce one off of someone’s head it is going to damage their shields… or kill them if their shields are down/they are already damaged.
Not to mention… when you randomly throw grenades for no reason, you’ll be missing those grenades later on when you really need them.
OK, so lets talk about the types of grenades.
There are technically 3 types of grenades for Halo 5 (right now)
- M9 Frag Grenade (Human) - Sticky Grenade (Covenant) - Pulse Grenade (Promethean)The first two… the frag and sticky grenades work as they have in the past, and as you would expect them to. The pulse grenade works a little differently… and I think people are having a bit of a problem with the concept.
The Promethean Pulse Grenades now have “scatter” pattern when the are thrown. Shortly after they hit a solid object they scatter into a swarm of hovering “bomblets” that damage ANY object that passes through them… friend or foe.
DO NOT WALK THROUGH IT.
This provides a very good defensive field for doorways/hallways. If a bad guy is about to come through a door… toss one of these puppies up and give yourself an extra couple of seconds. If they are stupid enough to walk through it will either kill them straight out (most common), or they will be hurt enough that an AR will take them down almost instantly.
If you hit someone directly with one of these grenades it is an almost guaranteed insta-kill because it will hit, dealing damage, fragment, and the bomblets will explode.
If used properly these are, in my opinion the most powerful grenade in the game due to their power to actively prevent movement from one part of the map to another and when used effectively can allow you to escape pursuers.
“Grenades are not something you throw just because you see bad guys. Make sure you know where your squad is at, make sure it’s only the bad guys you’re gonna blow up, then chuck the damage.”
