When I gave him a timeline of halo lore, he said that length doesent constitute a “good story”.
The extended lore is very deep and interesting, but what we actually see in the games themselves doesn’t compare to other franchises in the slightest.
He’s not an idiot at all for saying games like Borderlands 2 have vastly superior story telling.

I’m not saying that necceasarily. He’s just being an idiot for not even trying to look at the lore and then saying it’s better. And for saying that story in halo means nothing.

I didnt up until a week or 2 ago. Got some of the books. Im on the fall of reach and i cant put it down. Been playing Halo since CE and im really kicking myself in the -Yoink- for not getting into the lore sooner.

Make him listen to every episode of Hunt The Truth. That should shut him up.
Halo has some grade A storytelling, with deep themes and deeper characters. If he actually bothered looking then he’d find it.
And I loved Borderlands 2 but the story didn’t really grab me like I thought it should. All of the characters were some kind of insane and/or badass. Wolfenstein the New Order was good storytelling, I just don’t see it for Borderlands.

Length has nothing to do with Quality. Unless he thinks Twilight is better than the Hobbit because its 3 books not 1. (if he does in-fact think this then there is no hope for him).

Is there anyone who plays Halo for the multiplayer ONLY?

I’ve met people who play for the Multiplayer only.
Everyone i know, for any game, plays the campaign before jumping into multiplayer. 
The main reason I play Halo is for the story. I love the halo campaigns. I have started playing multiplayer a lot more though.
You’ll have to be more specific about what he doesn’t like about the story. If he has no legitimate criticism other than “it’s not good,” then there’s really no arguing with him.
A lot of people have this misconception of Halo that it’s nothing but “pew pew shoot aliens” when obviously that is not the case. All I would say is that there have been more than a dozen Halo novels, a ton of comics, short films, film series, and spin-off games in addition to the main set of games, none of which would be possible if Halo didn’t have a “good story.”
Otherwise just agree to disagree and move on. Trying to convince someone who’s ignorant of the lore, the story, and everything about Halo that it all takes place in a very rich sci-fi universe w/ a ton of amazing stories isn’t worth your time.
