Halo: Space Romance?

Now, I realize that Silentium is yet to come out, as well as Halo 4, but I have some troubling thoughts about Halo’s future. Halo 4 has a lot of emphasis on the relationship between John and Cortana, Forward Unto Dawn to me seems like a teen drama show that happens to be set in the realm of Halo. I wouldn’t be surprised of Silentium focuses on a love triangle between the 2 Didacts and the Librarian set in the backdrop of the Forerunner- Flood War. I understand most of you will probably think I am being extreme, but I’d just prefer more action with a little less romance in my Halo, the way it used to be.

Eh, I’m more concerned about the romance in FUD than in Silentium.

Double Didacts is likely going to be more confrontational than scandalous.

Well, I hope so. And I’m still concerned with Halo 4. I’ve had a bit too much of the John/Cortana thing.

To be completely honest, I have no problem with it, whatsoever. So long as they do it right, i’m fine with it.

When you’re deciding to make romance a main theme in Halo, I don’t believe there’s a way to do it “right”.

A hero with a love interest isn’t a new concept. It’s often the force which drives the hero to begin with.

Well, either because I tend to focus on the Covenant side of Halo or because I don’t actively seek it out, Halo for the most part didn’t have romance as a main theme until recently. I mean sure there was sort of a relationship between Chief & Cortana but not like 343i is claiming it will be like in Halo 4. Foward Unto Dawn seems to be almost all relationship driven which is totally a first in a Halo Game/Video, and there’s a strong possibility it will be there in Silentium. Enough is enough is all I’m saying, there just seems to be too much drama and less action.

I don’t mind romance as long as it is not the central thing that makes up the plot.

You would rather have mindless explosions instead of Character development? You could always play Call of Duty if you prefer things blowing up every 5 seconds with no real characters to care for.

Yeah, and I have a feeling that the entire series isn’t going to revolve around young Del Rio wanting to drill that hot UNSC chick.

Actually looks pretty action packed.

Any good movie has elements of all the genres: drama, action, comedy, romance, etc. Why should a game be any different?

I don’t and have never owned any video games aside from the Halo series. I’m just saying, where was the romance in Halo CE and Halo 2? And are those two not considered some of the better campaigns in the Trilogy compared to Halo 3 which had a more emotional thing going on with Cortana?

That has nothing to do with the addition of more heart, for lack of a better word. Halo 3 didn’t do as well because the Third story of a trilogy often does the worst of the three in the series. And even then it didn’t do terrible. I enjoyed every game in the series and the addition of more human characters who you can relate to is a plus.

Um, I don’t think John has any intimate feelings for Cortana.

They know they can count on each other, and that’s a stronger bond than most would think.

It doesn’t need to be romantic just because it seems they’re close.

Chief and Cortana have a very strong relationship, but he is a Spartan. Their relationship is one of the best and most definitive parts of Halo.

FUD is a coming of age story focused on a central character; there has to be a first love. This just adds another dimension to his character and brings out his human side in a Science Fiction story.

Silentium is not going to have a love triangle. The Didact, if he wasn’t killed by Faber, isn’t an idiot, and won’t risk lives because he mutated another person literally into himself.

Actually, what most are referring too, is thee apparent romance between 2 characters in Forward Unto Dawn, as well as the fact that if the Librarian and the Didact are indeed in the Relaimer Trilogy, then that will also have romance.

Play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1&2. Both are excellent games and prime examples of games that incorporate romance without overdoing it.

So far in Halo there has been very little romance. Further, I don’t think 343i plans to inject the Reclaimer trilogy with tons of emotional interaction between Chief and Cortana. Perhaps some, but not so much as to change the character of John. As for Silentium, I think you shouldn’t worry. Greg Bear wouldn’t turn his epic trilogy into a soap opera in the last installment. That is, I doubt a love triangle would be the key driving point behind Silentium and the ultimate firing of the Halo Array.

Sorry if this is all rough, I’m using my phone…

I agree I don’t think there will be a “romance” between Chief and Cortana but they do care for each other and it will be hard for him when she begins to deteriorate into Rampancy.

And in FUD it does make perfect sense for a young man like Lasky to fall in love. I mean what if she died in the movie and that’s part of his motivation? We don’t know exactly what’s going to happen but having someone to love and care for is a powerful thing which shapes the character into who he is.

Without it we’d all just be robots.
