Halo Sniping Tips?

Hello people of the Waypoint Forums, I’m a new poster so I’ll make this quick.

I’ve been playing Halo since ODST and ever since I’ve started matchmaking, I’ve always been getting dominated by Snipers. When I got a sniper, I’d still get dominated. I could hide, but that wouldn’t help me learn to counter attack the Snipers and will only isolate me from a majority of the match trying to hide from them. Anyone have any useful tips so I can deal with these guys and better myself?

Thanks.

If you’re not sure when approaching another sniper or player, then it’s best to use the sniper as a damaging weapon. Some players only try to get headshots and then end up missing shots and wasting ammo. I’ve gotten many assist by just shooting players in the body and either me or my team cleans up the kill.

If I know an enemy sniper is good I’ll just avoid him altogether and only approach him if I can catch him at close range. Also, pay attention to the little light that shows him zooming in. If you come up close to a sniper and the little light is shining near his face, that’s the perfect time to attack him because he has no idea you’re here.

Even if the sniper isn’t around, the rule of thumb in Halo is to have either cover or an escape near you at all times so if you get down to 1 shot you can stay alive more easily.

Also, if the enemy sniper is really that good, then make sure you or your team picks up the sniper any chance you get and just shoot all the ammo out of it, that way you take away all those kills he could have potentially gotten.

The trick is honestly practice. After using the sniper enough times you start to learn how sniping works In that particular game. You keep using it until you can accurately guess how long it’ll take for the curser to go to where you want it to and when it’ll turn red for the shot. That’s how top snipers work they don’t look at exactly what they are sniping, they drag the scope to where they believe the enemy is and press the trigger when they think it’s going to turn red. With enough practice it’s second nature.

Before all this though it’s honestly just using the sniper and don’t give up. Everyone always misses all their shots when they first pick one up. I recommend going through the custom browsers and find a snipers only playlist to force yourself to only use the sniper.

There are alot of things you need to know as well its not all practice. I give you some crucial tips snipers need to know

1.Know when to be aggressive and know when to back off and regroup

  1. Aim for the head always body shots do significantly less damage

3.Situation awareness and map awareness this is a big one know the maps your playing on, know where each of the weapon spawns are, know where your teammates are at all times as well as the opposing team.

4.Know the difference between the snipers each sniper depending on the game mode is different and has different capabilities, features and limitations know what they are and utilize them efficiently.

  1. Learn how to predict players actions and movements with practice this will come

  2. Always be on the move don’t just camp and stay in one spot but be careful with your movements around the map

7.Pay attention to your radar

  1. Learn how navigate around the maps thrust and clamber are your friends here

9.Don’t rush your shots or go trigger happy time your shots.

  1. Don’t let yourself get too frustrated

  2. Understand handicaps with these try to avoid them if your not with your team.

  3. Watch for the glow if you see the glow you need to move

These are just some tips there’s many others i could list…

Well, best strategy I have is snipe till you’re dead. No matter what you use, keep sniping. Works for me.

Against other snipers, you don’t wanna be predictable. For example, if you peak out and see him already looking at you and then go back to cover, he’s going to expect you to peak out again in that same spot. You either wanna do something different like peak out in a different spot (could be jumping above your cover and shooting him from there) or do a really fast peak shot where he doesn’t have time to hit you.

The best snipers I know are about 20% gun skill and 80% awareness. What I mean by that is they have knowledge that makes their job easier. You still have to land your shots but setting yourself up for success comes first.

I could get into detail about this but I will make it super simple. Learn to know where both teams are spawning. Where the common routes are and where both teams are pushing. Once you become more knowledgeable about this you learn where to set up. Where to look. When you should hold back a little when to push up with your team. I’m a terrible sniper but I do play with and against some very good snipers in btb all the time.

Also watching some some very capable players can help. If you’re looking for sniping in the btb world 2 streamers I suggest you check out are “Truly Elusive” and “Ispartan119”. They’re both on twitch fairly often with a sniper rifle in btb. You could learn a lot from analyzing their gameplay.

Good luck to you :). I personally like to steal the enemy sniper drop it for my teammates and hop in my trusty old ghost
