Imagine instead of just changing your armor you truly make your Spartan yours. This is similar to what I believe the effect 343 was going for when they made it so you could play any character on blue or Osiris teams. Halo has been struggling with variety lately and I think this could really help.
Players that liked kelly could have a class focusing on insertion, quick damage, and retreating.
They could make more interactive environments for Spartan abilities Tech related. Imagine turrets or passageways that can only be activated by one class and they need to be reactivated every 45 seconds so the person with the tech class doesn’t keep changing.
I’m talking about balanced skill trees too so when you unlock one side it closes another and the skills are only available for things like warzone and btb and campaign.
And of course all skills and how they’re used would be taken straight from lore. Lemme know what you guys think.
I believe OP is mentioning implementing RPG elements that would allow you to specialize your Spartan into mainsail, numbered Halos. By Skill or Tech Tree, OP means that there would be upgrades to your abilities that would require you to earn points or some other “thing” to be applied and unlock other skills further on in the branching “tree” of skills. You can also think of it as perks and S.P.E.C.I.A.L.s from the Fallout series.

I agree. While I, personally, am not an exceptional Halo 5 player, I can appreciate the effort that 343 Industries has put into the designing of the game to make the playing field as equal as possible at the beginning of a match in this installment, unlike Halo: Reach and Halo 4 where armor abilities, loadouts (both of which were customizable in the latter), and ordinance drops( exclusively a feature in Halo 4) allowed for matches to start with different weapons. I would much rather see Halo 6, or whatever is the next installment of the Halo series to carry over the idea of equal starts that has been perfected in Halo 5 and present in Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3.
Of course, I base my opinion solely on the Arena playlists in Halo.
Introducing skill trees would basically change the game’s genre. I’m fine with different genres of Halo games, but I don’t think the main line of games should make that switch.

I don’t think you have a terrible idea, but I think what you propose would be best suited for a spin off game with its sole development in mind. Look at H5s Arena/Warzone setup for instance. Arena is a focused competetive experience that requires complete balance to be fun and effective. Warzone is a no holds barred unbalanced mode with lots of customization. There two very different modes but one still effects the other.
The addition of REQ packs for Warzone has bled into Arena by making every cosmetic unlock RNG, making progression feel meaningless. Vehicular combat has been excluded from Arena so if you want to scratch that itch, it has to be done in Warzone. I would also argue that map design has suffered by way of map remixes, due to the amount of resources needed to make Warzone happen. Halo 5s already divided population is now divided even further due to Arena and Warzone.
These effects might be trivial to some, but damage the overall experience of MP as a whole in my opinion. To answer your question directly, the addition of Skill Trees would have to be excluded from Arena or it would lose it’s intended balanced design completely. I only suggested your idea as a spinoff because I personally think Halo has already been pushed into too many varying directions and tried to be too many things with limited success. Adding an RPG element wouldn’t be a bad thing if done properly, meaning 100% focus on that particular design. Otherwise the end result would be half -Yoinked!- and unsuccessful. Again, I’m not bashing your idea. I just think it needs to be it’s own idea, similar to how Halo Wars is completely RTS.

Yhea what this guy describes is not anymore halo to me
The Halo Series encompasses FPS, RTS, Comics, Novels, Movies, and Tabletop Wargames. I think the majority of the focus should stay on the genre that started it all, but there is nothing wrong with them licensing other developers who specialize in different types of games to create new Halo experiences, provided there is enough oversight to ensure it is done well.

That’s your opinion, though. Halo doesn’t feel stale to me. I’ll continue to play Halo 5 even if they don’t add another content drop, because it’s fun.
That said, Halo 5 is certainly not without its flaws, too. Since you’re asking me what I propose to make Halo less stale (even though I don’t think it is), I think correcting those flaws would help a lot with that. In my opinion, Halo doesn’t need any drastic changes like skill trees, in order to stay fresh. It just needs to do simple things, like launch in a completed state with lots of game modes, and have a better way to unlock stuff than the req system.
