Halo Show my first impression after watching ep 1

So my biggest concern going into this wasn’t the Silver Timeline. I am the few who understands why this had to be done. My concern was the cheese level of it might be that of a CW show. All I can say is…

How far from that it is!!! Boy oh boy is this show bad -Yoink!-. If you can break away from your pride and let go that it’s not a 1:1 canon from the games then you’ll enjoy this so much more. This is the Halo show we may not have wanted as far a story goes but, it is definitely without a doubt the one us fans deserves after so many years. It’s bloody, gritty, hell on wheels all the things we expected from a Halo show. With in the first five minutes after seeing a person head get melted by hot plasma I was like, ok Paramount well played, well played!!

So put away your ego, go spend a lousy five bucks and get Paramount plus. It’s well worth the ride this show is gonna take us on!!

Can you elaborate what was terrible?

Was it terrible that MC made a conscious decision to not Article 72 the girl and instead save her from termination.

Was the terrible part when Dr Hasley told the rest of Silver team that anyone who tries to harm MC or the girl wasn’t a friendly and to engage?

Was it terrible all the blood that was shed in the shows first 15minutes and how the plasma from the Elites just melt right through human tissue in gory detail terrible?

Or how terrible it was to see that the Prophet of Mercy spoke in an alien language so that we had to read subtitles?

Or how terrible it was with the awesome cgi effects?

Please go on what you thought was terrible. Oh I know it was a different Halo story you haven’t heard yet and change is terrible that’s what it is.

Well sorry for you mate.

Good gosh. Can we play nice? I’d actually really like to read about what people liked and didn’t like about a show. Early reactions can take a while to really mature but we don’t have to go off like exploding soda cans. You just imagined a bunch of reasons and then accused him of not liking it because it was different than established canon.

If I could ask a question myself it would be, first off, is the show realistic (or “logically sound”) in and of itself? The Boba Fett show looked nice and was well made but literally dropped the logic off at the side of the road at times. I don’t really want to try to get into a show if it ends up just as bad.

Yeah I did go off and I apologize however everything I mentioned did happen in the show. And that’s what I liked. I wanted to see if that person had actually watched it or just came in talking trash about something they hadn’t even watched. So if you hadn’t watched it, what I mentioned doesn’t spoil anything because the story allows us the fans of Halo to know what decision MC will make already and we’re like heck yeah that’s the Chief I know, but for those who are new would be like so glad he did that and not this.

The reason why he did what he did I didn’t spoil for you and that’s more important and you’ll have to watch and see.

Also wanted to point out the having the Keyes family been black doesn’t change a thing for me and that has been a big upset for many people. If anything the actors playing the characters are very good and in one episode you see that father daughter connection and it feels read! I applaud that!

Also yes it’s realistic. Not just in story which is just as important but also visually realistic as well.

I thought going in it would be cringe but it’s not. By the end of the first episode I was like nooooo I want more already, next week is so far away!

I haven’t felt that way in a long time about a show or game for that much

“It’s not cringe” is actually pretty nice to hear.

The whole thing about keys being black is so overblown. Glad to hear that the actor himself is holding his own ground. I remember how the play recording of Les Misérables I watched had a black man playing Javert. I loved the show and thought of that character as who the actor was, so when the movie came around it was really jarring to see him played by someone totally different. Now I kind of like both for their own performances and it helps me sympathize for other people who feel the same.

I’m tempted to watch the show myself but I’m thinking about waiting until all the episodes are out.

Yes I was more worried about cheesy cringe acting and lines then anything and the show relieved me of that with in two minutes because that’s all I need to be able to tell if the acting is crap or not and right away without any main characters/actors of the show making an appearance did a superb job.

Maaaan if you can wait all the more luck to you. I had the same idea but, I also already owned a Paramount plus subscription so I was like lets just do this. Now there is no way I can wait lol.

The first episode was so good I almost watched it twice. People hate just to hate

My 2 cents is that it should have showed off Spartan IVs instead of using the Chief and Blue Team. You don’t just shoehorn in major characters in the franchise, screw up their continuity, then ask the audience to “lolololol grow up and just accept this as a split timeline” That’s downright backwards in thinking. You create a show for the audience and intended audience, not make a show and beg your audience to enjoy it.

Now what Spartans could they have used? Heck, why not rest of Osiris? Why not focus on Buck instead? Buck’s a really interesting character too. And if they worked closely with 343, they could go deep on Osiris’ backstory. I wouldn’t have minded some sort of show where I get to see Vale actually interacting with the Sangheili at a higher capacity rather than sounding like a smartass in 5.

Or they could have tried to expand the story on Spartans like Miller. Could show he’s still healthy and strong somewhere out there so people may feel like “hmm, wouldn’t it be nice if we saw him on Zeta in Infinite’s future”

You know what would be really good? A full series focused on Agryna. She’s a new character and she’s pretty well received, but we know next to nothing about her. The show could be focused on her journey from civilian to Spartan.

I wouldnt say it was god-awful but its nothing special so far. The writing isn’t especially interesting and I already find most of the peripheral characters uninteresting or just irritating. Special effects are hit or miss. It is pretty brutal and the action was ok. I’ll watch the next 2 or 3 at least but im not sold on it yet.

I think the greatest sin were the Elites. You know immediately they didn’t touch a lick of the source material because that’s not what Sangheili look like. They look more like B2 Super Battledroids than Sangheili.

Also honestly? The FPS scene were hot garbage. There are ways to a FPS game into a show without the actual FPS. You can tell they didn’t even bother to watch cutscenes, actual cinematic content, either because if you looked at H2A cutscenes, it blows EVERYTHING they have out of the water, especially for close up fights.

HiddenEx put it best and I can’t unsee it. They’re Krogan.

I am surprised by what I have seen and heard. It sounds like there is heavy inspiration from certain elements of Halo 4 and 5; particularly the Meridian section.

I was sold by that whole opening sequence. Loved every second.

It’s been a long time coming and I am strapped in for this 9 week ride. I’m most excited by the fact that I don’t know what’s going to happen next because we are off the rails.

It’s still too early for me to comment on the TV show’s story. I’ll wait and watch a couple more episodes to give a proper opinion. I will say that the stuff you do see in the show will be familiar to many players. Although it is very different from the video games when transferred to television. One thing I can say is that I expected it to be a lot worse than it is.

I was also impressed with the opening. The music was also pretty good. Did anyone else catch the Elite yelling “wortwortwort!” during that opening battle? lol

I liked the first episode. Hearing Pablo’s voice instead of Steve Downes took a little getting used to but overall I enjoyed it so far. The only thing I did not like was that the Master Chief kept his helmet off when going into a possible combat situation.

" The most important feature of the helmet though is the direct neural interface system which connects to a Spartan’s neural implants. Two core processor chips are implanted into the subject’s skull in the rear of the head. This is essentially comparable to an onboard computer using parts of the human brain for processing - when the connector at the rear of the subject’s head and receptors in the brain link to the helmet’s onboard sensors it creates the neural link needed to move the MJOLNIR suit.
