Halo should no longer have Multi Player

First off, I mean player vs player MP. Co op is integral to the Halo experience.

Halo is still one of gaming’s biggest IPs. It still sells like crazy, people still line up to pre order. People want to play in the Halo universe. What people no longer want to do is play Halo MP. Based on reach’s online population nose dive and the absolute rock bottom, train wreck that was Halo 4 MP population it is clear that people do not want to play “modernised” Halo. 343 is also never going to bring back classic Halo MP. Some people believe that nobody wants to play that either. So, we’re stuck between a rock and hard place with PvP MP.

So. Why waste massive amounts of time, effort and resources on PvP multiplayer that cannot even stay in the XBL top 10? Why not divert those resources to campaign and Co op. Can you imagine how awesome the campaign and spartan ops would be if all the time, people and money that is being spent on a PvP section that nobody plays was spent there instead?

----Edited in----
I feel like people are not giving this a fair chance.

Diverting resources from standard PvP( which in h4 40,000 out of 10 mil or 0.04% played regularly) to campaign and co op could not just mean a slightly longer campaign and more polished spartan ops. It could mean big things.

How about PvP in campaign? Dark souls style. Makes sense canon wise as “agent locke” is hunting master chief. Imagine this. You’re playing a campaign level as MC. You have a co op buddy and some AI elites on your side. in the level the flood are fighting against the promethean/elites while you’re against both. Then, you’re “invaded” by agent locke, who is player controlled.

How about you have 3 players co oping with you and you’re invaded by 4 attacking spartans?

How about procedurally generated spartan ops? With co op and PvP intertwined.

I just don’t see how halo MP can be popular with lobbies and playlists. I dont think 343 has it in them to make compelling MP the traditional way.

Bro, are you -Yoinking!- high?

Given the far more positive response to Halo 5’s multiplayer after the beta, PvP in Halo isn’t a lost cause.

I don’t care if I’m the only one, but I still want to play multiplayer.

Doesn’t matter. If I don’t like “modernized” (homogenized) gameplay in MP, I sure as hell won’t like it in campaign either.

  • Halo won’t be as popular If they do get rid of the MP entirely.- Just because halo 4 wasn’t popular does not mean anything if people didn’t like 343s direction. Considering that Halo 4 is their first true game the company has made.- it seems more people are interested in halo 5s Mp since thats the thing that they have marketed more than the campaign. The beta gameplay is most likely the reason the game has high pre orders.the reason i think behind their decisions with halo 4s loadouts & ordnance drops and halo 5 s SAs is not only to modernise, but to experiment what they can bring and shouldn’t bring for the franchise. But instead of making completly different ideas never used or seen they use popular fps trends. Halo 4 they learnt that custom loadouts and reward drops do not belong to halo. With Halo 5 they are experimenting with added verticality, to see if it works to any degree. If a lot of people hate SAs (which it doesn’t seem so) then they will try something else for the next game. If SAs get better praise than what Halo 4 did then they will stick with it to make SAs better for future titles.

No, NO, NOOOO!!! I like the Halo campaigns, but if 343i decides to -Yoink- the multiplayer and give us a campaign only experience, ( ODST being the only exception, imo), then there is no reason for me to get these games. I play Halo for the competitive multiplayer as much as I play it for the story. Multiplayer is an integral part of the experience.

Id like to point out something halo 4 did wrong that Halo 5 did right.
we didn’t know much about how the halo 4 mp gameplay would work except the details. So we didn’t really know it would be quite lackluster. However halo 5 has showed so much MP gameplay (despite the gameplay only focusing on the arena gamemode) that people are very interested in halo 5s mp, and unlike halo 4 they know most of what to expect.

Wouldnt be too bad I guess. I only buy halo now for the campaign because the MP is so bad.

Its a beta. Everyone loves betas. Theyre free, new and exciting.

This is a troll thread right? I mean, you’re not being serious?

Saying that there shouldnt be MP because of Reach and Halo 4 is honestly not a very well thought out argument. Using those 2 games as an example when most of the disliked/controversial mechanics of them is being scrapped is foolish at best. If the game was ONLY going to be campaign, i would probably not buy it. I’m not going to spend essentially $10/hr to play a campaign.

Obvious troll is obvious?

Yes. Everyone who says they enjoyed the beta is lying, as part of a sinister conspiracy between 343 and the Loomynarty, aiming to kidnap all the kittens in the world.

Ehhh… What are you smoking and where can I get some?

No. It can. But its not always a sign of a good game.

Destiny beta was great.

I disagree. People will always respond well to a free BETA that lasts 2 weeks. H5 is going in the same direction H4 did. It’s just going about it differently.

H5 MP will have a very difficult time retaining players.

Well with the now increased focus on campaign it would no longer be a short 5 - 10 hour campaign. It could be an epic 20 hour plus journey. Also, imagine weekly, awesome Co op campaign episodes.

FIFY.

Wanna know how to kill a franchise? The idea in this thread is how you kill a franchise. Just when I think I couldn’t possibly see a dumber thread on this forum, someone wants to remove multiplayer from Halo… unbelievable.

Why is it a dream? Do you know how much time, money and effort they put into the MP? And for what? Nobody ends up playing it. Putting all of that towards campaign and Co op will increase their quality.
