I always had a fascination for heavy armors, from medieval knights to sci-fi space marines. I’m pretty sure Halo was my introduction to the concept of Power Armor / Exo-Armor. I remember reading the Halo 2 booklet and being impressed that Spartan-117 weighted half a ton with his armor. I was in awe, and when playing the game, you could feel this this weight, and it felt good.
Nowadays, almost every FPS wants to be faster, because apparently being slow is bad ? I understand that many players prefer fast shooters. But there’s already so much choice in the market. I wish that Halo tried to be more unique, and instead of having ultra fast and agile Spartans, we would play walking tanks capable of taking more hits.
I’m not a game dev, so I don’t know which gameplay mechanics could be created to help this feel, but it’s clearly a more fertile terrain that not enough shooters have explored. I only played Titanfall 1 for an hour, and I had fun, but enhanced mobility wasn’t the part I preferred, it was the titans (that everyone seems to have forget). They felt heavy, resilient and powerful. I had so much fun playing them. This is the element I wish Halo took inspiration from.
Too often when playing, I feel like I’m made of cardboard. The Mjolnir armor is supposed to be a heavy piece of armor that protects its user more than a standard-issue Marine or ODST armor, with thick ceramic plating and alien energy shields. I want to feel this, instead of moving at the speed of a bullet.
The Spartans are a lot stronger than us. They can run as fast as a normal car speed, like 40mph. So I imagine even in heavy combat armour they can run pretty fast.
Tanky play in my experience is super boring. Making someone a slow bullet sponge is boring to fight against or as. Overwatch has done a pretty cool thing with the tanks (most are fun to play) but even they aren’t exactly that tanky, they still get shredded.
Well they did lower the sprint speed so that might compensate. But I do feel that the kill times are a bit too fast so I guess you have a point there. 343 should make a middle ground and make us be able to take a few more hits, not much, but just a little bit.

I was not thinking of making Spartans bullet sponges, but instead give them active defensive abilities, like having to manage a temporary overshield. There is so much to create, instead of just copying the enhanced mobility from CoD or Titanfall.

Spartan Armor is equipped with stuff that makes it more mobile, and in modern combat, you can’t have a bullet sponge soldier, you’re begging to be hit with a rocket or something, and then boom, the multi-million dollar super soldier is dead because he was slow

well advancment in armor bodysuit mesh you got to consider the materials used for creation of the armor, i think if im not mistaken the shifted to shield tech advancment and agilty rather than heavy more protective armor
