Microsoft has revealed that more than 46 million Halo games have been sold since the franchise launched in 2001. The series has generated nearly $3 billion in sales, with $200 million coming from the first 24 hours of Halo: Reach’s launch alone. Microsoft added that “more than 5 billion hours of Halo gameplay have been logged by players while connected to Xbox Live.”

Microsoft notes that Halo: Reach eclipsed “all previous 2010 U.S. entertainment launches, including the three-day opening weekends of Hollywood blockbusters Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3.” Halo 3, meanwhile, made $170 million in the United States, “breaking all previous single-day entertainment launch records, and breaking the previous record held by Halo 2 ($125 million).” 120 million pieces of user-generated content have been created for Halo 3 since launch.

The next Halo launch will be Halo 4, which hits stores on November 6th. Excited to find out how it is? You won’t have to wait long – you’ll be able to read our Halo 4 review at midnight.

I hate it when MS does this cheesy marketing crap. Movies aren’t $60 a pop to go see. It’s stupid to compare profits when the price of admission is $60 as opposed to $10.

true but I think they do that because like everyone knows, movies are more popular in any part of the world then games. And that movies are the entertainment that most of the world prefer.
then MS does this things just to see how their products made more progress then the most loved entertainment in the world did lol

Yeah it seems a bit odd to compare a video game to a movie in theaters…
