I strongly believe a game like the one I am about to describe to you would sell like crazy…
A Halo RTS-FPS game… a multi-player based game that mixes the strategy or an RTS with the hardcore action of an FPS.It could be up to four players per console (Though I would be happy with just two).
One selected player is the “Overlord”, is in RTS mode, and has a vertical view of the battle field while the other players see the battle field in FPS mode.
The “Overlord” would play the part of the Leader, basically he/she would build the bases, train the troops, construct the vehicles, deploy the troops ect, ect.
On the other hand the players would be Spartans (Maby marines or ODST?) and actually be in the battle as troops… this would create an experience unlike any other.
Imagine, You’re standing guard on a slightly inclined hill, in the distance you can see a massive swarm of enemy troops heading toward you’re position (were talking 50-100 units heading you’re way, wraiths, ghosts, elites, brutes the whole nine yards) and with you about 20-30 marines and a few Scorpion tanks, A massive battle ensues and you find yourself fighting a loosing battle. So you call the overlord and say that you’re being overrun and need reinforcements ASAP, All of a sudden A pair of pelican drop ships zoom overhead and drop off some marine reinforcements and some more tanks come in behind you to help hold the line, quickly the tide turns and you beat the covenant back.
This “Epic Warfare” type game would dwarf any other games previously published by Bungie, 343i, or any other shooter game Bar None.
Imagine you could be in the fight with hundreds of men and vehicles and unlike other games you are not a key part of the battle, yes you will probably be better than the average bot, but as you are fighting a whole other battle is taking place somewhere else.
In other words the battle doesn’t revolve around you and victory is not dependant on you, you are simply one soldier doing his part.
For the “Overlord” his role is basically the same as in Halo Wars.
I was also pondering whether it would be possible to create an add-on for halo wars that would enable said players to join in FPS mode? (Though very unlikely) and have had an exceedingly hard time trying to come up with a suitable name… Halo Wars Evolutions? Please leave you’re thoughts on this game and also a good name!
All the finer details are still to be figured. And I understand that this will require a major technological feat, But I recently learned of a game for the Ps3 called “MAG” in witch 100 plus players fight each other in a huge battle, so if it is possible to stage a battle with 100 plus “players” then staging a battle with 4-8 players and 100-200 bots shouldn’t be any more difficult.
And with that I will leave you to you’re imagination.
Regards,
Dylan
Please Help me keep this post Alive! lol
I said it in the general discussion thread on this you made, and I’ll say it again here in this other one:
The idea sounds cool in theory, but I don’t think it would work in all honesty. Since players don’t have to listen to orders given by the overlord or the overlord could easily not deploy new vehicles, AI or weapons just to make you lose for teh lols. If this type of game truly was created, I’d prefer if it took the role of a PC game I saw a while ago that did just this, but it was a bunch of soldiers in an FPS viewpoint vs an enemy team which was made up of AI troops and such being controlled by the overlord instead of controlling the FPS players. Since AI’s have to listen to orders that problem won’t exist as it would with real players, and since the overlord is alone and can’t grief anyone as the overlord, they’d be forced to try or to do nothing, in both cases not ruining the fun.

That is a Great Idea! But i have never heard of such a game? any how as i said all the finer details are yet to be figured so please dont hate on my ideas :’(
ps: i am new to waypoint and did not know the prime location to post so i went with the two best choices…
I’ve actually been thinking about discussing a game like this. I was thinking, however, about giving all players command of thier own forces. Essentially just an RTS, but where you can snap to a FPS view of your spartan at any time. This way, you can really contol how the battle plays out (on of the issues many of my friends have with RTS games) while still adding a deep level of strategy.

I have also given much thought to that aswell, but with a twist.
The overlord could assign certian squads (infantry, armor, or air) to a FPS player, from there the FPS Player could givethe squads comands using the D-Pad (Example: UP = Attack selected target/ Defend if selected target is friendly, DOWN = Fall Back/Retreat, RIGHT = Form up on youre position, And LEFT = Fall out/return squad to Overlord.
